Had the office Christmas (of course, I mean holiday) Party last night so I missed the first few minutes. But sure was in the spirit of things watching the Yotes on national TV and throwing down some Beck's.
Forget the record, this team is going to really be fun to watch during the Summit season and tourney. We have been very competitive on the road, (neutral sites)which should be helpful during the Summit league schedule.
Looking ahead to the new arena at USD, with the current status of our men's and women's programs....I think it's going to be loud in there!!

Nailed it, Cuz!
This is definitely a gap year, but I think the Coaching staff will make it an enjoyable "time filler" so to speak.
Burnette and Mayot, IMHO, are BOTH upgrades over Pomlee. Burnette has offensive skills and Mayot is a "blue collar" type, rebounder, defender. I think they both play a little bigger than 6-5. Burnette, I believe, will produce some positive offensive results, once he settles in. Most of our recent history with JUCO's, their best play is 2nd half of first year and second year (given that is, they produce at all).
Casey K will be interesting to watch this year, he is playing markedly better on the defensive, rebounding side, which allows him to play more minutes and shoot. I wouldn't be surprised to see him score consistently (like the last few games) as a result. We'll see..
Excited to see next year and following with Coach Smith!

A fan board without comparing stats and speculation, what would be the point? Fan is short for fanatic after all.
Thanks for posting coyoteg16 and supporting the Yotes. I have been a firm supporter of Coach Glenn, but this year has clearly been a disappointment and I have been perplexed at Joe's post game comments. I knew it would take 3-5 years to build, so I agree with the patience that Herbster is showing, it likely will pay off. I'm not smart enough to know if it's lack of coaching up or recruiting or Asst Coaches, but I do know improvements need to be made, probably in all three.

"Winning isn't everything, it's the only thing." Vince Lombardi
To be a winner, it takes learning from your defeats. You measure yourself against winners and champions, it isn't necessarily a defeatist attitude to say "we're close" or "we fight to the end", as long as you don't settle and stop working.
miniravo, I think the rotation that you talked about is going to be an interesting development as the season progresses. There is a real positive with the scoring trio (Larson, Bos, Kasperbauer) getting more of the playing time. Earlier in the season, the deeper rotation seemed to have a better defensive effort, guys like Mayot, Davis play some good defense. I'm sure Coach Smith is still tinkering with the right mix.
Disagree about us losing by 20 to Bakersfield if their big man didn't get ejected. They were up by 10+ at times, but I don't think they ever had a commanding lead with him. We were making runs just like they were.
Youngstown St shot by my count 11-15, (3-3 on 3s) coming out of halftime, on the road! Some of those were offensive rebounds, some Im sure were defensive lapses, but you have to give some credit to the Yotes for cutting the 15 pt lead to 3 with a chance to win at the end.

Congratulations to Zach Zenner on his Academic All-American selection. He's truly a STUDENT - ATHLETE. He's a model for young people, and old ones like me, that you can accomplish a lot, if you are willing to put the work in. Best of luck to Zach for future success, on and off the field.
He was hard to cheer against, even though he was wearing those ugly JACKS uniforms.
"He deserves every single award he's up for," Jacks athletic director Justin Sell said recently. "More kids in today's world should know this kid's story. We hear all the junk that's out there – we should be casting the attention on a kid like Zach Zenner. To me, he's a once-in-50-years guy." (Argus Leader)

It is a real good video that shows the value of the Dakota Dome. For all the complaints, some valid, the Dome has served the university and South Dakota very well. Looking forward to the new arena and how it will allow the Dome to be used for fewer activities, and hopefully improve those experiences also.

Casey K. is playing at a higher level. Tre Burnette can score, and DJ Davis has a lot of potential, both of whom will probably help later this season and next. There's only one ball, so naturally Larson, Bos will get a lot of the shots, as they should. Agree that missing Flack is huge. Any updates on his return? I heard the CSUN announcers saying that they were told that USD was hoping to have Flack back by the time Conference play begins. I hope so! Recruiting will be important next year and especially for the following season.

I saw the photo on gojacks.com, which I guess qualifies as "where in the hell"... If you are referring to the photo that is apart of the "Jacks drop first game at Sanford Pentagon" article, that is picture of Keaton Moffitt (O'Gorman grad who got his 1st start as a D1 player against FGCU) playing against SD Tech in Frost Arena during an exhibition game. It's clearly not a photo of the SDSU/FGCU game at the Pentagon. If you watched the game or seen highlights you would know it was a sell out crowd. You got it, that was my mistake, I take responsibility for it, I was wrong, I was just trying to take a stab at the Jacks fans (they are such easy marks). (Note to self: stay away from gojacks.com) "If you watched the game" (NO) "or seen highlights" (AND NO)... I know it was a sell out crowd, there were eye-witnesses posting on here, and I read it in the Argus. To get back on the thread, State sold out the Pentagon, now it's up to The University of South Dakota to do the same.

I saw a photo online. Lots of empty seats, I guess that's because of the autograph line at the end of "dunk city's" bench! The Pentagon was packed. I don't know where in the hell you got that from. I saw the photo on gojacks.com, which I guess qualifies as "where in the hell"...

Gotta love these Yotes, and Coach Smith!
The themes that keep repeating themselves: Defense Everybody plays Defense Never quit Defense Healthy Tyler Larson Can't say where they'll end up in the Summit League, but my guess is they will be giving teams fits all the way to the final horn!
My view on the shooting (FTs and FGs)is that it is impacted by the level of defense they are playing. It takes a lot of work to play defense like they are this year. I think the shooting will come, and I think they will be conditioned to excel later in games, which will increase their shooting % as the game and the season wears on. Just my humble opinion...

Cuz, thanks for the research with the numbers, as you can see I was doing 'short hand' math. Part of my thinking was increasing the seating for FB, which from my understanding most FCS teams are shooting for 15k minimum seating. (Did I hear SDSU's new facility will top 20k ??). Then it would likely take both BB programs hitting the 3,600 - 4,000 per game to top FB.
I don't have a problem with the BB Arena, it makes the most sense due to our existing facilities, and it also makes good sense, as you've stated clearly. I just think that FB has a unique offering that draws a lot more people to a single event, which has its own benefits. In the end, they are both going to serve each other in increasing the USD brand, and hopefully recruiting reach.

You're wrong. At this level it's basketball. That might be the norm nationally, but not here. The football programs, though FCS, are the ones with the biggest spotlight in SD Football could and should lead in my opinion. The Yotes draw 50,000 per year in FB (will expand if you develop the Dome), it takes a lot of BB games to do that (even with 2 programs and twice as many home games). Plus FB is an event each gameday, that's why I'm hoping that the Arena, is as much to free the Dome to focus on FB as it is to upgrade the BB experience.
