You're playing a team that went 5-11 in their conference, a team that has a losing record, and the team that you just beat fired their coach after the loss. Stop acting like you're pulling off some impossible task. You are also playing AT HOME. Do it on the road or even at a neutral site and I'd call it impressive. I'm very confident if we got to host these teams we would have beat them all too. Even our men's team would win pretty often if we got to host the worst of the Big Ten and Big East. (yes it's still impressive on some level, but not nearly as impressive as making the Big Dance. Beating the dregs of power conferences at home just isn't on the same level.) You may also say that they are 16-1 OOC as well. The Hoosiers started 14-0. If the Jacks are able to defeat IU, I would definitely say that home court is important. If you examine the WNIT schedule, the home team wins almost every time. Check the Midco station through Sunday afternoon and enjoy the game. It may be a consolation tournament, but SDSU is making the most of this experience much like USD did last year in the WBI. I have no problem with making the best of the situation, and doing your best to win the WNIT. Nothing to sneeze at, I'd be pretty stoked if USD made a run in it. What gets me is some State fans claiming it's more impressive than making the NCAA Tourney, when it absolutely isn't.

Let's all record the address for this page so we can look at it next year and either 1) marvel at canislatrans's prognostication abilities or (2) realize that canislatrans's post was a warning and therefore we should not be surprised when he gets very angry if USD's women enter the WNIT and play well, going at least four games deep with wins over B1G and Big East schools. Don't know how to quote from another thread but, there's this: canislatrans Apr. 9, 2013 @ 6:44am jackl, I would start to pay attention to CBI and WNIT, gonna be a big part of the Bunnies future. You can look it up, and by the way if USD plays in the WNIT, or the WBI, or any other postseason tourney and it brings in revenue, and I can see it on the internet or TV, there'll be no angry complaints from canislatrans. I also won't be posting on the bunnies fan board, if there is such a thing. There is a bunny fan board, I think Benson would lose his mind if we had their format haha.

SDSU beat the team that won less than a third of their conference games to advance to the WNIT semifinals. Playing the winner of UTEP and Washington, two teams that actually had good records this year.

Absolutely impressive run by the SDSU women. It's not the NCAA Tournament, but consider that the Jacks have hosted and WON three games against Big Ten teams this season. That's enough right there to impress me.
I too get frustrated at all this 'only team alive in south dakota' crap, but we should all root for the Bunnies. This goes a long way toward the Summit eventually getting 2 teams in the NCAA field down the road, hopefully soon. A team (USD) that loses in the tournament title game last year makes a run to the WBI semifinals. A team (SDSU) that gets bounced in the Summit semifinals making a run in the WNIT. Summit train rolls on.

This is very impressive and yet a good indicator where our program is today. Jacks fans have every right to be proud, as do we.
I for one would give a lot to best them in everything we did, and to chant HATE STATE and all the things that go with the rivalry, but I'm with WAYBACKYOTE on this one. I'll cheer for them to do well and represent the Summit and the state of SD.

Sorry, can't do it. I hope they lose.
Well, that is if I actually cared about what they do.

What does the USD out of conference schedule look like for next year? I think it would be great to see USD schedule a few bigger schools and raise the league RPI up. With NDSU getting a new coach they might hopefully start to be competitive too. The possibility of the Summit being a 2 bid league for womens basketball is very close to a reality.

Completely back State. I hate that school with a passion, but any success for the Summit League I will back. Good luck in the future, but I hope we crush you next year Go Yotes!

I agree with (most) of the posters above. The Summit is very close to being at the point of being able to get two teams in the Women's NCAA tournament at least occasionally. The non-automatic qualifier has to be in a position of being at least a 12 or 13 seed to be selected and probably a little better to beat out a school from a bigger conference. I don't believe there was any team that was not an automatic qualifier with a seed higher than 12 this year. I expect IUPUI, USD and SDSU to be legitimate contenders next year. ORU will be back and strong in a year or two and some of the others are improving. The key is strong scheduling, wins against big name teams and increased visibility. We were according to AJ, probably 2 wins away from an at large selection this year and there were a couple of regular seasons losses that we should have won.(So far SDSU is 7 and 3 against teams from the major conferences, 3-1 against the Big East, 3-0 against the Big 10, 1-0 against the Big 12 and 0-1 against the Pac12 and ACC. Your new facility should help attract bigger names to Vermillion. The WNIT run for SDSU helps with visibility with those who follow Women's basketball closely and that includes the people who make the selections. The Indiana coach after the game yesterday said it was an honor to play at Frost and that the Jacks were the type of program that he wanted Indiana to become. Those are pretty strong statements by a Big 10 coach about a Summit League setting. Anything that is good for the Summit in the long run is good for each school in the Summit.

SDSU's WNIT run stopped at the Final Four: UTEP 66, SDSU 63. It was a fight the entire way in front of a sell-out crowd of more than 12,200 in El Paso.

When is the last time the SDSU women's team won a post season game outside the State of SD?

3/22/09 at Lubbock TX when we beat up TCU 90-55 in the first round of the NCAA Tourney. In the next game, 3/24/09, we lost to Baylor 60-58 (there was some controversy about that game and one issue contributed to an NCAA rule change). Baylor went to the Sweet Sixteen that season.

When is the last time the SDSU women's team won a post season game outside the State of SD? They won a tourney game six years ago I think.
