It is great to look at where we were a year ago compared to where we are now, and see that the entire program is heading in the right direction. Football continues to improve, Joe Glenn is laying a great foundation that will have us making playoff runs very soon. Clearly he has the coaches convinced, there has been almost no change in the staff at all since Glenn got here. Men's basketball saw the retirement of Dave Boots, and the splash hire of top Nebraska assistant Craig Smith. Making the tough decision to cut ties with Joey showed the Herbster is all in on building a winner. Women's basketball ran through the Summit Tourney, and then gave Stanford their stiffest challenge until deep in the tournament. Not to mention the recent transfer of the Mountain West's 6th player of the year. The new arena's plan has been finalized, the funds have been raised, and we are just two weeks away from the start of construction. Volleyball had a breakout season, even with the slump to finish the year. Softball just has to figure out NDSU at home this weekend to win the Summit. Track has produced about a thousand titles, including a national champion pole vaulter. Finally, to show that the fans are coming along with the improving program, there was the runaway success that was the Calling All Coyotes Banquet. A very good first year for the Coyotes under David Herbster. While we have only had just a taste of success so far, it is apparent that we are headed for some great things at the Division 1 level. The Coyotes are trending upward, and fast.

“The thing I want to make sure we get changed is that in the South Dakota Showdown Series we’re getting our butt kicked right now,” Herbster said. lol

The Sioux City Journal has stepped up their coverage of the Yotes. I agree. The Sioux City Journal, and the PnD, put out some great articles on the Yotes.

“The thing I want to make sure we get changed is that in the South Dakota Showdown Series we’re getting our butt kicked right now,” Herbster said. lol I'd chuckle if I were you also. Comes down to two programs. Men's basketball and football. We turn those around the CUP goes to the U. Football, the gap.is closing. I'm not sure it ends next year or not, but it's closing. Men's basketball we just have to see. But what I see as your sacred cow, women's basketball, there is a serious "chink" in your armor there. What was the "Holy Grail" of SDSU. sports is now vulnerable. Your move to D-1 has been successful, far more successful then when you were D-2. Your stranglehold on USD is nearly over. I'd be proud of what you have accomplished, and for your sake, I hope you'll be able to remember it when you had it. The facility upgrade at USD pulls us out of the dark ages for all sports other than football. And SDSU made a serious mistake when it chose to build a new outdoor football stadium instead of a Dome like the other wiser schools in the Dakotas. I would love to see your recruits eyes light up when you show them the schematics of your stadium, and then when he visits USD we will add snow, wind, and a tempature gauge the last month of the season. Big mistake. Huge. I don't like losing to carrot eating oversized rat myself. Herbster has it figured out.

If anything USD is the one school out of the Dakota 4 that could get away with an outdoor stadium. The weather doesn't get so brutal in Vermillion. Start heading north and by the time you get to Brookings on up there is a bit of a different climate. Colder.
That said, on beautiful fall days I wish I could sit outside. Problem is that in early season games the weather is often hot, sometimes brutal, and it is nice to go sit in the A/C, and late in the season it is nice to get out of the cold or rain, and every day it is nice to get out of the wind which is pervasive in South Dakota. So yeah, other than that one or two games a year I like having the Dome, from a spectators perspective.
All that and 70,000 people filling an outdoor stadium is quite the atmosphere. 10,000 fans outdoors, not so much. 10,000 fans in a Dome, loud as hell.

It will take very little to sway that thing in our favor, and we're well on our way to making that happen, very soon. I said in another thread, starting in a couple years we will likely win the thing more often than not. We're coming out of our transition hot, poised to be seen on a national level. You have to hand it to Saylor and Herbster, those two have done amazing things for this program. These next five years are going to be GREAT years for the Coyotes, and will build a launching pad for even greater years down the road.

Big mistake. Huge. I don't like losing to carrot eating oversized rat myself. Herbster has it figured out. SDSU womens basketball is vulnerable because they lost there 1st ever Summit League tourney game? USD finished 4th and lost 7 games during the conference regular season while SDSU lost 1 game during the conference schedule. Regular season titles proves who is the better team while the tournament titles is about who the better team is that day. The future of SDSU WBB is in good hands with the best player in South Dakota since Becky Hammon coming to SDSU next year to join 3 freshman who contributed to this years success in many ways. So I don't see how its vulnerable after 1 year. SDSU has proven time and time against that it is the class of the Summit. As far as men's basketball goes, there is a lot of uncertainty for just about every team in the Summit. Like you said time will tell. BTW, just about every school in the region plays outdoors. I don't think it matters that much. I would also love to see the recruits eyes when they see a brand new indoor practice facility to go along with a new stadium.

Most of the Coyote women's losses came with their best player (Seekamp) injured or only 50%. Wow an indoor "practice" facility with a small sized outdoor stadium? I'm sure all that will really Wow those recruits!

"Just about every school in the region plays outdoors." You mean like your FCS competitors for recruits USD, UND, NDSU, and UNI? All of them play indoors. Oh, and they all have an "indoor practice facility".

Recruiting isn't going to come down to who plays indoor and outdoors so i don't know why its that big of a deal that sdsu plays in an outdoor stadium. There's no reason to rip sdsu's new football stadium renovations. If anything you should be happy because you wont have to sit on sketchy wooden bleachers anymore. I'm pretty sure every school in the region doesn't have a brand new state of the art indoor practice facility.

Yeah, I'm sure they'll see the practice facility and be just dazzled that they get to practice in a venue that showcases how big of a joke the stadium is. That you even had to build the thing makes you wonder why they didn't just build an indoor stadium. Was it because you wanted to keep your outdoor home advantage? Because I'm not sure how strong that will be when every practice you have is held INDOORS. Btw, the closest (scholarship) FCS team to you that plays outdoors is over 500 miles away. In WBB we stomped you on the biggest stage we can play on, made the NCAA tournament, are gaining more notoriety, and you think that you are somehow going to keep your edge over us? You really think this was just a one-time ordeal? It came down to the last minute of the title game last season, we stomped you this year, and we only lose one player going into next year. Yeah, no...looks like we shouldn't be bothering you anymore

The point is why does it even matter whether SDSU plays indoors or outdoors. Are you trying to say that SDSU is at a disadvantage because they play outdoors? If so, please explain. I'm not sure what the big deal is.
