Coach Smith's post game comments
>>> Wow what a game, you don't find those too often. Liked the never say die attitude. Told team to be agressive. Trey Burnette has been struggling but broke out of that today. Had a heck of a game. Creighton's bench was impactfull. Tyler Larson hit tying three and he talked about fouling being up 3. Luckily Creighton didn't foul on Larson's three. Jays did a great job guarding Kasperbauer. Yotes did a good job defending. Tyler Larson another good game. Bos didn't have a great night from field but did hit big shots late and went 9-9 from the line. Learning experience for Casey as he is going to draw attention from defenders. Can't say enough about how guys competed and defended. Went up and down lineup for guys giving good minutes tonight. Team is maturing in front of our eyes. Not into moral victories. Gave ourselves a good chance. Took a team to double OT against a team that beat Nebraska. Was a physical and rugged game. Gotta take care of our bodies. Finals week coming up. If we play with this mentality we will be ok. <<<

Thankful that we play UNLV on Saturday instead of Thursday. A loss is a loss, but as long as the team leaves Omaha with the mentality that they will adjust and get right back after it, I would say we will be in for one heck of a ride. Lets pack the Pentagon on Saturday!

What an amazing basketball game to watch! Both teams made critical 3s, 2s and FTs down the stretch. As one of the TV commentators said toward the very end of the game "we want 300 of these type of games!!" It was interesting at the start of the game they spend 99% of the time talking about Creighton yet at the end it was about 75% Coyotes 25% Creighton! Very proud of this Yote team and I have no doubt that they'll always claw, scrap, and fight to the end of every game and leave it all on the court!! Can't wait to watch upcoming games!!!

Agree completely, I cant remember the exact quote, but the guys in studio before the game wrote off the Yotes before the game started saying no one thinks they will win this game (fair point), but unbelievable energy Coach Smith gets these guys to play with. See everyone Saturday. -PS still quite a few tickets left.

The Coyotes may have lost but I don't know how anyone can come to the conclusion that this program isn't headed in the right direction. Heading in the right direction is an oft used term that holds very little water but in this case after the game against Creighton the Yotes executed like champions and just carried themselves with pride. This would have been a win but Creighton played a heck of a game tonight and barely missed a shot when they needed one to go in. I am so proud of the Yotes tonight and sooner or later this team is going to start picking up big wins. The way it looks sooner is just around the corner. I love the small lineup that this team plays. I thought you were more of a results man coyotefan? This sounds an awful lot like many of the posts on the football board that you have historically been so quick to jump all over. You heard it here first folks, coyotefan likes moral victories. It's too bad I can't remember a time you praised a coyote football team for coming up just short against better competition. I kid. Had to take my little pot shot at ya CF. I really do agree with your post and couldn't be more proud of the fight the boys showed down the stretch last night. My thoughts on the game: First, the Yotes definitely showed up to play last night. Not sure if it's the players or coaches or both, but that team was fired up and ready to play. Secondly, our effort in the paint was on a whole different level than Creighton. I have a hard time believing we are a better inside team than Creighton, but I don't think anyone can disagree that we outplayed them at the rim. Thirdly, we shot over 42% from beyond the arc. Here's my opinion on that. I simply don't think we can expect or rely on shooting a percentage like that for the rest of the season. Need to continue to work the ball inside and create driving lanes. Again, very proud of the ways the boys played and carried themselves last night. Excited to see what we can accomplish this year.

Had the office Christmas (of course, I mean holiday) Party last night so I missed the first few minutes. But sure was in the spirit of things watching the Yotes on national TV and throwing down some Beck's.
Forget the record, this team is going to really be fun to watch during the Summit season and tourney. We have been very competitive on the road, (neutral sites)which should be helpful during the Summit league schedule.
Looking ahead to the new arena at USD, with the current status of our men's and women's programs....I think it's going to be loud in there!!

After watching the game last night I hope the Coyotes get on TV again soon. This game had it all and then some.
Wish I lived within 100 miles of Sioux Falls/Vermillion. I'd definitely budget some time and money to see them in person.

A lot of encouraging takeaways.
We won the rebounding battle. Again. That's 7 out of 10 games with a significantly undersized roster. I credit that to great coaching and tremendous effort. These guys play hungry.
Tyler Larson. I was dead wrong about this guy. When I watched him play last year, recovering from his knee injury, I sort of thought that was his new normal. He looks so much stronger this year and is playing consistently at a high level. Team MVP thus far, no question.
Tre Burnette got going. That needed to happen. Nice game from him.
We're now 3-7 with six overtimes under our belt. The record isn't pretty, but with all the new pieces (and the absence of Flack), this wasn't a team that was going to hit the ground running. I do think we're on a trajectory to make a few waves in the Summit League this year.

I don't know crap about basketball but from what I saw on the TV last night the Coyotes passed the eyeball test. By that I mean they didn't look like a completely overmatched team that was pulling it out of their butts to even be on the same court as Creighton. It looked like two evenly matched teams going at it and trading blows. It was fun to watch. I think the announcers were surprised the Yotes were even in the game but they were converts by the end. Just wish that last foul call under the hoop wasn't made and we would have put that stolen ball in for two to tie it and go to 3OT. Like I said earlier in the thread, at the time it happened it didn't look like a foul to me, it looked like the Creighton player lost the handle on the ball and it was a legit turnover. Of course I might have been a little biased.

What a fun game! Definitely cool this morning to read the support from Lakes and JackJD and others. JackJD's post about Bos hitting a three from Council Bluffs was great. I'll echo what everyone else has written and add this, I got texts from two casual Yote fans and one die-hard Creighton fan during the game last night. Each text conversation essentially boiled down to this: "How is this team only 3-6!? They are really good." The announcer who said last night that what made this game so fun to watch was that both teams were performing and making plays to stay in the game hit the nail on the head. Coach Smith and his staff along with this team are doing a great job. Can't wait for Saturday!
