Men play in Brookings today looking to snap an 8 game losing streak at Frost Arena. Game is on MidcoSN and ESPN3 at 4:30. Our guys have been playing a lot better these past two games and I hope to see that continue today against a team we had plenty of chances to beat in Vermillion a few weeks ago. A win and we may find ourselves in 6th place by day's end with a chance to play into the 5 spot the next couple weeks, a loss likely means 6th would be the highest we can finish. I trust that Craig Smith will have his men ready to play today and keep a good thing rolling.
Go Yotes!

I don't know what to expect in this game. Yotes have the talent to beat SDSU, but the Frost is a tough place to win. Flack needs to step up and get possibly get Daum in foul trouble. Yotes need to knock down the FTs this time around. I think the key will be our perimeter defense against State's guards with us being down a few defenders. We might see Smith play a little more zone today as a result and need to make them hit contested 3's. Go Yotes!!!

3 weeks ago I would have predicted all Jacks by about 25. Now I think the Coyotes will put up a much better fight. No matter how well the Yotes are playing this is always a tough place for the Yotes to win. Gotta go with the Jacks 76-64. If the Coyotes pull this one out than they might just run the table and end up 8-8 in the Summit. How about another 20-0 start but this time followed by a bit better followup than last time.

First 8 minutes were pretty good. I'd rather not comment on the rest of the half.

This is what is becoming the typical game at Frost Arena. Coyotes play good for about the first 8:00 and have their annual Frost meltdown. They allow the Jacks to go on a 2,538 - 2 run and the game is in effect over because even if they come back it is doubtful they will be able to complete the comeback without the Jacks going on another run. As soon as the Yotes have one bit of adversity to face they fall apart. They are shutting down on the offensive end and just allowing the Jacks to do whatever they want on their offensive end.
The Yotes were up 10 only to fizzle and end up going to the half down 16.

The foul called on Daum there was another absolute joke. The officiating really shouldn't be the focus here. I don't recall the plays you refer to but I am thrilled that this officiating crew has allowed a basketball game to be played after the last time these teams met.

To a certain point they have. There have been some terrible and one calls. At least they have been even for both sides

This is an absolutely pathetic performance today. The Coyotes did not show up mentally today. They are not getting back on defense, allowing open shooters, playing selfish overall basketball and just not really seeming to care. Where is the white flag.

The Coyotes started out with great D but unfortunately that went away. Coyote defenders started playing too far off state's 3 point shooters and that mistake lasted the last half of the first half and into the 2nd half. It did get better but by then the hole was too deep. The good news is that this can be corrected by tournament time if and when we hopefully meet state again! Finish the regular season strong--GO YOTES!!!

The Jacks are far and away the better team between the two. The best thing to come out of this is as follows
Deondre Parks - senior Jake Bittle - senior George Marshall - senior Keaton Moffit - senior
They are losing some heavy artillery. Except for Tellinghuisen and Daum no one else on their roster is really that scarey. If the Yotes cannot catch the Jacks in the next couple of years they may not ever do so, at least not in the near future.

If the pieces fall into place well enough for us we can still finish 6th. We could very well win our last three games heading into the tournament as we host Denver, visit a skidding IUPUI, and visit last place Western Illinois. But honestly with how even the top three spots in the standings are looking it might not really matter at all whether we finish 6th, 7th, or 8th as seeds 1-3 are looking relatively interchangeable.

I would still rather avoid South Dakota State. When they have the crowd advantage like they do at Frost and at the Premier Center the Coyotes have been nowhere close to touching them. The Yotes would fair better with Omaha or IPFW than the Jacks. I just simply want to be in the opposite bracket as them and will take the chances with whoever else would be on USD's side of the bracket. Omaha is the most beatable IMO. The Yotes had them down by 20 before collapsing to them.
I hope it comes out like below but I don't really care if the Coyotes finish 6th or 7th in this bracket.
1) SDSU vs 8) Oral Roberts 4) IUPUI vs 5) NDSU 2) IPFW vs 7) Denver 3) Omaha vs 6) USD
If IPFW takes over the top spot I would rather be #8 because if the Yotes would beat IPFW I think they would have a fighting change against the NDSU vs IUPUI winner. Even better the Yotes run the table and somehow finish 5th. They play NDSU or IUPUI and Fort Wayne finishes 1st.
Right now SDSU doesn't want to play the Bison USD doesn't want to play the Jacks but I don't think would mind another game with NDSU because were a rim out away from sweeping them.
