So what is the common opinion. What would hurt more, USD losing Williams or SDSU losing Nagy? Normally I would say it's futile to compare men's and women's basketball in any way but that's not a bad question. I would agree with coyote61 and say it was equal. It's apparent that USD is strictly a women's basketball school and SDSU is combo football and men's basketball school, followed by women's basketball,of course. I disagree with that assessment. USD is not simply a women's basketball school but the fans are a little bandwagon-ish for any of the sports. Considering how much of the past 3 decades that USD has been down in football the support has been pretty darn good actually, probably better than the program deserves. The majority of messages on this board are about football until just recently. This board has a lot of posters that care about football much more than about any other sport but those posters are mostly jumping on the women's basketball bandwagon. This school has a history of supporting their big 3 sports and the proof is in the WNIT attendance. USD fans are out there, they just need proper motivation to show that they do exist. In Boot's hay day the fans attended their games better than the Women by quite a bit and the new arena will help out a lot. USD fans are hungry for a winner and will support one.

My response to the initial post on this thread is that, pure and simple, I hope our coach stays. It almost feels like some of our posters are ready to send her off to some school I little know or care about.
I guess I've invested too much in our coach and women's basketball team to immediately jump on any bandwagon on speculate on her departure. If it happens, I guess it happens. However, I am uncomfortable about it.

However, I am uncomfortable about it. I understand where you are coming from but we cannot ignore reality either. There are supporters/sources from Nebraska that say she is a major candidate if not the top candidate and that is her alma mater. The speculation has much merit to it and this should be discussed because of it. None of us want her to leave, but hiding from it will do no good either. We have to face our fears.

As to the comparison of losing Williams to losing Nagy. USD has had three successful WBB coaches in the time Nagy has been at SDSU. If the day ever comes, we've been through this before. In fact, Herbie has a pretty dang good track record of making good coaching hires, realizing the book isn't even out on two of them yet but I think he hit HRs with the FB and MBB hires. SDSU, by comparison, has not had to replace any of their high profile coaches. Nagy had been there 21 years, Jacks fans are stepping into unknown territory with an AD unproven in hiring coaches. Where USD fans have the utmost confidence in an AD who has proven himself in that area, SDSU fans should rightfully be a little concerned that their guy can pull off a good hire.

We all know this isn't a smack thread, but a little jab here and there makes the board more interesting to read. There is a big difference between what jackl said and full-on smack talk. And ditto what Yote 53 just said!

Yori is getting sacked because she was the female Bobby Knight, her team was going to quit and there were lawsuit threats. She was the winningest coach in school history. Oh,didn't know that.I guess their are other valid reason's also to get fired, I did assume a little too much. Thanks for the additional information. They had a sub-par record this year, very un-Nebraska like, heard they had a lot of injuries though. probably know a little more in the following days to come. some mixed stories out there-----disgruntled team to a team caught by surprise (re: "resignation"). from what i have read so far, it wouldn't surprise me at all if it has more to do with her divorce proceedings. speculation is she asked some staff members to cover for her about her whereabouts at some point in order to make her look more favorable. big, costly mistake. i guess when you are fighting for custody, one can do some unwise things...

This ESPN analyst discusses Yori's resignation. He has Brian Rosenthal (Lincoln Journal Star) on the phone during the broadcast discussing the situation. When asked what the timeline was for replacing Yori, the ONLY name he brought up of a possible replacement was Amy Williams... espn.go.com/video/clip?id=espn:15141247

Probably because SDSU put the clamps on the "You Can Go Anywhere From Here" Slogan and made it inclusive to students only. Losing Nagy was difficult enough. Or maybe it's because AJ is returning all 5 starters from a team that lost out on making the sweet 16 by one point. The SDSU women have a chance to make some serious noise next year, so that may be the best time for him to look to make a move.
As for Williams, I don't see a point in the near future where her stock is higher. If there is ever a time to jump ship, this is it. A WNIT championship that included a large number of starters and the conference player of the year is going to be tough to reproduce any time soon. A potential P5 job that is also her alma mater seems like the worst case scenario for USD fans. If she is actually in the running and actually gets an offer, she is gone.

Yep you are absolutely correct. She comes to USD spends her 4 years here, goes on to do great things and uses the University as a huge stepping stone to her future success. Hmmmmm that sounds like the exact same formula used for all the USD students that go through as well. They spend their 4 years, use their acquired education and valuable lessons and move on. Not exactly a horrific formula. It's not USD's fault that people that go through the institution become valuable commodities because of it.
