www.argusleader.com/videos/sports/2016/03/10/81606068/If you haven't already check out this video of the review of the Summit League tourney. I thought it was a very interesting listen overall as Mick Garry and Matt Zimmer talked about what happened during the tourney. In another post I talked about the fairness of the home court advantage that the local teams have at this tourney especially SDSU and they touch on that in this video. I could see through time if the Dakota's continue to dominate at the Premier Center that could cause some programs to really reconsider if the Summit League is where they want to end up being. That is especially true for IPFW and IUPUI and who knows how long Western Illinois's budget will allow them to even stay in D1. They talk about Amy Williams and how attractive of a coach she is to a larger program. What is everyone's opinion of this. Will Williams stay at USD or will she move on to another job. As scary as it sounds this would an ideal season for her to move on if there was ever a time. USD has come such a long way up the ladder in Women's hoops and they have been lucky three times in a row to hire a good coach. If the Yotes were to lose her it would be very difficult to get a replacement as good as her to fill her shoes. USD needs to obviously do everything they can to try to keep her in Vermillion.

Why do they always have to bring up the possibility of Williams leaving? Have they ever thought maybe she is content where she is? Why is there no article or conversation about AJ leaving every year? He has won the last 7 of 8 SL titles. Maybe there has been and I just haven't seen them.

Much more upside with Williams than AJ in my opinion. And I agree with CF, if there was ever a time for her to leave, this would be it.

I'm just saying that why is there never talk of AJ leaving? Wouldn't a top school look at the coach with a more successful track record? It seems like these stories are always about USD coaches leaving like State coaches never would (I know AJ almost left). Maybe I am too much of a conspirist this morning *flips back to watch The People vs. OJ

AJ is only 2 years older than Williams so their ages shouldn't make that much of a difference. The reason that I would think that maybe Williams would leave before AJ is that AJ has had a winning team at SDSU for a long time and he hasn't left yet. That gives me hope that he will stick around. Williams on the other hand has build USD up and hasn't been there quite as long so you don't know. Both coaches are really good and could probably move on the "bigger" schools but it would be great for SD and the Summit League if they both stuck around for a long time.

I would not say that Ryun Williams left the cupboard bare. The last season he coached ended 23-8 with some post season wins. Amy has done a good job as coach. She took the SLT when they finished the year 19-16 playing Stanford in the NCAA tournament and she has won some games in the NIT. USD has had successful coaches for the women's basketball program. The new arena should help the OOC schedule for getting some good competition into Vermillion. It should also help the recruiting for Amy.

Correct me if I'm thinking of the wrong person, but didn't AJ, like, actually accept a job with a bigger D1 at some point and back out at the last possible second a few years ago? Or am I totally off on that? From what I can tell, I'm pretty sure the possibility comes up with AJ semi-regularly, just not as much on this message board and I would imagine not in the circles of fans you talk with (unless you are friends with a number of SDSU fans and they just don't talk about it). Just a guess though. Either way, I'm pretty sure it has come up at least a handful of times in the past. Just not so much last year, since USD women's basketball was garnering more of the media attention and buzz.

I think one reason AJ maybe isn't in a hurry to leave, he has been in Brookings a long time, he was a Grad Assistant for Nagy before he become the women's assistant. That is 19 years I believe, from what I can gather from looking things up. The longer you are in a place the harder it is to leave, once you have children and they are starting school and getting friends it makes it even harder. Amy has been in Vermillion for 4 years, if she wants to leave the time is soon, otherwise, from a family standpoint it is going to be harder and harder to leave. Also, you, I and the rest of us don't really know what her ultimate goal/hopes/dreams are.

AJ's name got thrown around for the Minnesota job a couple years back. The biggest thing that Williams has going for her besides her track record is that she is a female. Bigger programs would like female head coaches in women's basketball.

I played a round of golf with Amy at a fundraiser last summer and had a few discussions about this very topic. Although she would have to listen to offers, she convinced me she and her family are very content in Vermillion. Herbster and Abbott have done all they can to keep her at the U. She has a great salary, some good benefits, and an administration that backs her 100%.
There will always be jobs bigger and more prestigious than USD, but my gut feel is that it would take a pretty significant offer to get her. She's a class act no doubt. I'm appreciative for each year she stays.

There have been so many that have said all the right things and give every indication that they are just fine where they are at only a short time later to end up leaving to another school. Only Amy really knows in her head what she wants to do. The nice thing about Williams is that she is already about as close to home as she can possibly be and still be able to be at a job that is a very good one. William's does seem very loyal to her team and to USD. She loves to be a Coyote. At the same time no one can ever blame someone for striving as high as they can possibly go.

AJ has been contacted for a number of high major jobs. He's either waiting for the right one or he's content for now. Not sure which one it is. Probably both.
