Looks like Michigan/FGC game will be on ESPN3 tonight... Pulling for Michigan just because I want to see that name come to Vermillion. Teams look pretty even by RPI at 71 and 78.

I have a video capture program I use to capture video content.I'm going to go back to ESPN3 to replay the game and capture it to my computer to savor that victory for a long time.It has an edit feature too,so I could get it cut enough to fit on a dvd, but I'm not too technologically inclined so probably won't ,but a person could I imagine.

I had not looked at past results. The mid major teams that have made the title game have all represented conferences held in higher regard than the Summit. Makes this run all the more impressive.

Congrats to the USD WBall team on making it to the WNIT Championship. I will not be able to make the game but do plan to watch on TV this Saturday. After reviewing this list of teams that have played for the championship it would appear that USD is the first Summit League School to make it this far??? If so, I think that needs to be mentioned as this run is truly something special.
What I like so much about this team is that they are playing together as a team and NOT giving up. Today our youth need examples of what you can do if you don't get what you want at first. I hope our fans show up on Saturday to help pay tribute to such a great team.
I am hoping for over 7,000 at the game. By looks, not much left for available tickets. I did see that the argus sports section was dominated by all things USD include the front home page - Not sure if I have ever come across that before. I hope that trend continues into next year.
GO YOTES

The average attendance for the above numbers is 9,633. I'm guessing we have more than the 5K that watched the semi-final. Not sure how high we will go, but my wife and I will be there!

Thinking we need to get Coach Williams to sign a 5 year contract before we play the Championship game...

here are a couple of encouraging trends for Summit League Women's Basketball:
Division 1 average attendance (regular season) vs Summit League average attendance (and conference rank)
year--------Div I--Summit(nat rank)-SDSU(cnf rnk)-USD(cnf rnk) 2010-11---1585--804(23)------------1882(1)---------N/A 2011-12---1583--930(21)------------2403(1)---------1290(3) 2012-13---1549--965(18)------------2029(1)---------1094(2) 2013-14---1526--1087(15)-----------2026(1)---------1398(2) 2014-15---1519--1166(12)-----------2101(1)---------1568(2) 2015-16----?------?---------------------2267(?)---------1844(?)
My takes: Summit League WBB attendance has been gradually increasing accross the board against a backdrop of gradually declining national numbers. The combined men/women tournament idea could be a factor in getting fan bases to support their women's teams too. JMHO.
The only teams that are not trending up in the Summit are NDSU and ORU, but they have been dominant teams in the past, and could be again.
USD has almost doubled its average attendance over the course of four years! Coach Williams and her girls have really built this program up, and the fans are finally starting to take notice. Great timing with the new arena opening next year. Momentum. Helps all Coyote sports.

I am still constantly thinking of last night and looking forward to Saturday. The Florida Gulf Coast vs Michigan winner will have only 1.5 days to get ready for what they will face in the Dakota Dome. Things seemed to finally catch up to Oregon last night but will the same fate also catch up to tonight's winner as well.
Last night was SPEECHLESS. There were so many great memories made in just one night. It almost seems like their is/was a higher power helping the Coyotes. 12 out of 14 for three, you gotta be kidding me. Sometime in games a team can get on a run and the crowd will get into for maybe a 3 or 4 minute stretch but this was like riding a wave for the majority of the game. The crowd was so awesome and the team just fed off of it. I would take just half the good play and good fortune of last night for the championship game.
After the third quarter when the game was all but over I was thinking a lot in historical perspectives. That might have been the greatest single performance in a game I was in attendance at that I have ever seen for a team that I route for. When thinking about the all time great Coyote performances in any team sport this either ranks #1 or close to it in all time history. The only game that comes to mind is when USD dismantled UNO in football in 2005. I am sure those that were around in the 80's or before could possible add to the list of all time great performances but this one has to be WAY up there. To completely dismantle in every aspect of the game a major program like Oregon is simply Outstanding. This might go beyond just USD. Is this one of the best performances ever for any sports team in South Dakota history? Is this one of the best performances ever by a mid major against a major program in any D1 college sport? All of these questions then suddenly Tia Hemiller decides to play super woman from just inside the half court stripe.
One thing about the USD fan base is that the fans are out there, it's just that often times it takes quite a lot to get them to come out and show it. These last couple of games or so shows that in living proof. I learned from 2008 when I was in Kearney, Nebraska for the Women's D2 national title game that Coyotes fans when properly motivated are quite awesome. Anyone that was down there knows exactly what I am talking about. There were 2,000 plus USD fans that followed them over 5 hours away from Vermillion. The Oregon game can be an athletic department defining experience. Games like this can add to the normal fan base by 2 to 3 hundred fans per game for the ordinary Jane Summit League game. What is also nice to see is that on this board the conversation about this team has been nice lately. This has kind of traditionally been a football board but even with Spring Practice getting under way all anyone can think about is this Women's team. The Lady Yotes have kind of raised the bar overall. The Men's team has got to be thinking that it is about time to start trying to follow the Ladies lead. Same things goes for the gridiron warriors.
I agree with a previous post in that it's time to lock up Mrs. Williams to a nice little multi year contract with a nice little raise. Maybe put her on an incentive based contact. She would have met many of those incentives already. She is a true jewel to this University. If Amy is or was ever sitting on a fence regarding her future this WNIT run with a new arena coming would be awfully hard to walk away from, and from her home state to boot.
With the way the non senior players are playing this year, especially late in the year, having a very good team next year is becoming more and more likely with every game that is played. The theme next year from the anti Yotes will be "just wait until the Coyotes have to prove what kind of a team they will be without Arens, Trimboli, Fogg and Duffy". I will say this much other than maybe losing Seekamp the talent on this team is not going to drop off and that is not taking anything away from the great seniors on this team.
Last night was a dream come true. From the blistering shooting, to the smothering defense, to the excellent crowd, to the crazy shot and to the announcement from Amy Williams about the championship game being at home. What a great night in Coyote history.

The 2nd semi final game isn't until 8PM Eastern Time so the two teams even have less time to get ready for the Coyotes then they probably should have to get ready. How about 5 or 6 overtimes.

Time is just not on their side. Figure the game gets over at 9 PM CST (barring several overtimes) and then it's 41 hours until the next game. 41 hours to get from Florida to Vermillion, learn a new opponent, get practice in, and get what sleep you can. On the flip side our team is watching these teams play, breaking down film, sleeping in their own beds, and have the advantage of several thousand fans to support them. The timing of the final few rounds of this tournament has been incredibly favorable for USD.

I am routing for Michigan tonight and not just because I want to see a Big 10 team come into the dome. Michigan has a highly powered offense and FGCU relies alot on defense. Just look at the season and see how USD has matched up with both styles. The defensive teams have given them the most trouble. UNI, SDSU and ORU all have good defensive teams and all handed the Coyotes losses. I think the Yotes are better off playing Michigan but either way I like the Yotes chances. If it's FGC I could see a repeat of the 2nd UNI game which would give me a heart attack by the time it was over.

So far FGC is struggling from the outside and Michigan leads 9-3. The Eagles crowd is pretty loud themselves.
