Found it..... Love this video! This is the video they played right after the team intro. I hate Flo Rida. I love that song. The dome truly was "their house" and I absolutely love that video!

Over the years I have grown to like songs that I may have never liked had I not heard them at sporting events. I remember back in the 90's they would play quite a few of the songs from the ESPN Jock Jams CD's and I bought a couple of them because they reminded me of going to games and got me fired up. The win on Saturday has only sunk in about 30% so far. Still flying high at this point.

We all could see that FGCU was a tough team but in reading on their team site today, I hadn't realized their seniors had won 4 straight Atlantic Sun titles and were in 2 NCAA tournaments in their four years, including last year as a 7 seed and they defeated 10 seed Oklahoma State in the first round. Certainly a very successful, talented team! Makes the Lady Yotes tough fought victory that much more impressive!

It has been a week since the championship game. With the euphoria of the win over, my perspective, FWIW:
- Winning the NIT is something that is typically reserved for P5 teams, and that point alone is impressive for both USD & FGCU.
- This message board is used by Coyotes & rabbits fans, for better or worse. Often for worse. SDSU had a great season, finishing 2nd in SL, winning SLT, and winning a game in NCAA tourney. Their fans will also point out that they didn't get blown out in games they lost to better teams. I think that would have to be labeled a successful season in rabbit fan's eyes.
- The Yotes lost the first 3 games (2 w/o Seekamp, all on the road, 2 to P5), won 32 of the next 35 (5 wins over 'high majors'), won the SL by 2 games, were upset in the SLT, were shaky to start WNIT, but then righted themselves with that awesome/fun Minnesota game, then the borderline ridiculous Oregon game and went nuts. Even to a casual fan or a hater, this was a successful season.
- Regarding the 'where does WNIT Championship rank', I think we can now look back and use the wisdom of crowds to get the answer. Obviously there is a big difference between winning a game or two vs. a run to semis - attendance at all WNIT games throughout history will confirm that. However, what I don't think is given enough credit is the HUGE step between quarters to semis to championship. Case in point, for the semis, USD nearly doubled attendance from the quarters, which was nearly double the round before. (FGCU set an attendance record in their semi's game.) In other words, the further any team progresses, it is exponentially important, not just linear. I think it really is more important and a bigger accomplishment to make it that far - much less win it - and the engagement/growth of fans bears that out.
- Winning a first round game in the NCAA is a great accomplishment, and multiple upsets happen each year. Going in to SLT, every USD fan would have wanted that to happen. But in retrospect, I don't think anyone would have guessed the realistic alternative was winning the WNIT. A run, sure. But winning it all? That is a very different trade off that we didn't know at the time.
- So, my opinion: The WNIT championship was far more impressive than bowing out in the first round of NCAA's. The pit in Coyote fans stomach when the NCAA was announced is that I certainly think if the Yotes would have been put in the rabbit's place, USD would have certainly made the 2nd weekend before getting beat - which would have been fun, and casually observed by a number of Yote fans/alumni. But getting to experience (not watch) the WNIT run went much further. Everyone at the Minnesota or Oregon game would tell you that was better than watching the Yotes on TV. I saw people at the championship game that I haven't seen in years - and they were genuinely nervous/excited about the game. They essentially were not longer 'casual' fans, but were now fully engaged. 7400 people came to the championship game. Rabbits fans were getting props for having a couple hundred on-hand at NCAA - because that counts as a lot in that scenario. They could have sold more than 7400 with more temp seating. The mere fact that this attendance was 3x or 4x of coyote fans that showed up to the SLT means we would rather win the WNIT than go to the NCAA, even in a year when a win or two was likely (in our minds). I, for one, think that WNIT run turned out to be much better for the Yotes, even if we didn't realize right away.
There are my rambling thoughts. I bet you wish you could get those 3 minutes of your life back...

It is interesting to note that the 2016 Coyote women's basketball team owns 3 WNIT tournament records-- Nicole Seekamp most assists in WNIT tournament history--49, most team assists in a game--29 vs. Minnesota and most team assists in the tournament--113. These numbers are another way to show what a great Coyote team this was and obviously with all the assists the emphasis was clearly on TEAM!!!

I was just going to post that today is the 1 year anniversary of the WNIT championship victory. I see that this post was appropriately bumped today as well. Congratulations to the Coyotes on what will always be a great memory. I think this WNIT run kind of reinvigorated the support of athletics at USD. Of the big 3 sports for the first time in many year if ever all three programs have promise entering next year. The football is still unrealized as of yet but hopefully that will turn to realization in 2017 or very soon thereafter.
