Just some info on each of the candidates that has been mentioned so far Chuck Love: 4 year assistant under Amy Williams at USD, 1 year assistant of the Rogers State Men's Program, Assistant at Wayland Baptist U., Grad Assistant at NW Oklahoma State where he graduated in 2008. Emilee Thiese: (Amy Williams' sister) Head Coach at Minnesota State - 2012-2013: 26-6 and 2nd round of NC Regional - 2013-2014: 23-6 - 2014-2015: 21-10 - 2015-2016: 9-18 looks like the wheels fell off this year. She plays and uptempo offense or at least did at one time. Katie Gearlds: Head coach at NAIA Marion University 2013-2014: 16-16 - 2014-2015: 28-6 and lost in NAIA round of 32 - 2015-2016: 32-6 and won national title - Purdue graduate and was drafted 7th overall in the WNBA draft - played overseas as well. Steve Gomez: Head coach of the Lubbock Christian University Chaps - They were NAIA until 2013-14 when they transitioned to D2. 2004-2005: 16-14 2005-2006: 23-12 and advanced to the NAIA final 4 with many upsets along the way 2006-2007: 26 wins and to sweet 16 in NAIA tournament 2007-2008: 25-10 and to elite 8 in NAIA tournament 2008-2009: 27-7 and to sweet 16 in NAIA tournament 2009-2010: 19-12 and went to the NAIA tournament 2010-2011: 25-10 and to elite 8 in NAIA tournament 2011-2012: 28-6 and to final 4 in NAIA tournament 2012-2013: 31-4 in NAIA 2013-2014: 25-1 in D2 2014-2015: 21-7 in D2 2015-2016: 35-0 and won D2 National Title in Sioux Falls He has coached in Texas and as far as I know Texas is not exactly a hot bed of Women's College Basketball. They barely take Men's basketball serious down there because it's all about football in Texas. I'm sorry but none of these coaches move the needle for me. Think bigger, like in what USD pulled off in their last two hires for the FB and MBB positions. Those two hires had much bigger credentials than what is being thrown around here. The WBB program, coming off a WNIT championship, a stocked cupboard of recruits, and a brand new facility, along with what I assume will be an attractive salary package will attract a lot higher level applicants than what you are discussing here. If none of these coaches move the needle for you I seriously doubt you would have even taken a look at Amy Williams prior to her getting the job. These are national championship coaches we are talking about. I would rather have a national title coach any day at a lower level than an assistant at a bigger program with little to no head coaching experience. When USD hired both Williams' neither came from a top level and look how they turned out and look where they are now. To me there is a bigger difference between being an assistant vs being a head coach compared to the difference of simply having experience at a higher level.

Why do you have a problem with Seekamp. She is a very bright individual and very well may have a career in coaching. Her aspirations appear to be the WNBA but there is nothing wrong with bringing her name up. I believe I heard Amy Williams refer to her once as an on the court coach type of player. I can understand not wanting her to jump right into being a head coach but as an assistant there is certainly nothing wrong with that thought. Question for you CF. So you have argued in the past that Wesley Beschorner was too green when he got the OC job under Ed and that he was far too inexperienced to get this position when he had 4 years of coaching experience (recruiting, game-planning, coaching a position, dealing with alumni/boosters, making in-game adjustments) prior to that promotion. This was for a team that was transitioning into FCS football and not considered a true contender for a MVFC title and surely not a post-season participant. And now you are arguing for Seekamp to be the top assistant to a "Top 40" WBB program coming off of a regular season Summit tile and WNIT title. I don't get it. The similarities in these 2 are uncanny, both arguably one of the top players in their respective programs history, both highly respected for their talents in Vermillion and throughout the region, yet you feel one is highly qualified with no coaching experience at all, and the one who did have significant experience was highly under-qualified for his job. Not trying to start a skirmish, just wondering what the reasoning is for different attitudes for extremely similar situations. I am not going to deny what you are saying because you are absolutely correct. You caught me in a contradiction and now I am caught in my own hypocrisy. I didn't necessarily think Wes should not get his shot originally but eventually I think he was allowed to advance without showing the accomplishments to deserve his promotions. He should have never been allowed to be the OC but the bigger mistake was allowing him to stay in that position as long as he did without having the success to back up his lofty position as OC. Nicole is in a similar position and it is a similar to Wes's situation. I do think their is a difference between being a basketball assistant and being an OC. It takes the brightest of minds to run an offense with all the sophistication and strategy involved as is required in football. Being an assistant in basketball wouldn't be quite as tough of a task but maybe I am just ignorant to what it entails. This very question is exactly why I do favor coaches that have excellence in their background as head coaches and not merely assistants.

That's fair...being an OC is definitely a lot more responsibility I would assume, knowing nothing about what an assistant basketball coach's responsibilities entail. My only point is that knowledge of basketball, or any sport for that matter, is just the tip of the ice berg when it comes to coaching. Recruiting is the life blood, game planning, dealing with the administrative side of things, etc. are all a big part of the equation that I'm not sure someone just finishing their college playing career is ready to take on. My guess is that Seekamp will go onto a professional career of some sort, whether WNBA or over seas, and come back to coaching after that if interested.

Pretty garbage reporting by Mick Garry. No ideas for who can coach besides the last name Williams. I get the joke, but he should have finished the article with who he thought could work for the position. Agreed...that was probably in the top 5 dumbest articles I've ever read! Usually I'm a Mick Garry fan, not in this case.

Mick must be on some kind of a mental vacation right now. After one of the biggest weeks of Coyote sports the argus chat is a no show last wednesday. The coverage has not been very good since the WNIT ended. Now an article that is supposed to be a joke. Let's have a little more than just that Mick.

The media commentary on here is nuts.

The media commentary on hear is nuts. I don't think anything was wrong with it. There just wasn't much 'right' with it - which was the sentiment of the coach replacement article. It was non-news when news-news was otherwise available. Maybe a spring FB article about the top 2 QB's or the offense the new coaches are putting in, etc., and then a story about the 3rd stringer's adjustment. I'm not trying to pile on Mick - his style is his style, and that won't change. I truly wonder if the WNIT run combined with the Skyforce & Herd runs have worn him down.

The "Williams" piece was a blog post and is satire, not a traditional article that was published in the paper.

gopheryote, the following is not targeted at you. It is a general statement: We have got to stop cannibalizing our own people. These guys are not employed by the University. They are journalists. They are not paid to write puff pieces - in fact, ethically, they are supposed to publish stories and "the facts." If we want a bunch of fluff, that is the job of the University, the marketing department and the SID. They can write all the fluff in the world, tweet it out, share it on facebook, etc. and then it is the job of the fans to push it out to the masses. Also, the Argus is not our enemy. It happens to be the State's overwhelming source of news. To that end, it has many people to serve. Just with regard to college athletics, it has USD, SDSU, Augie and USF. It is easy for Yankton, Brookings and Watertown to focus on one school. Likewise, as yoteforever has stated, Sioux City has no meaningful college to serve (Morningside?). Should USD focus on Sioux City? Yes! In lieu of Sioux Falls? Hell no. Why? The Argus doesn't serve Sioux Falls. It serves the overwhelming populous of East River South Dakota, NW Iowa, and SW Minnesota. Readership number will reflect that. I sure as hell don't want to make enemies with them. That would be poor strategy. News is a numbers game. They have stats that measure EVERYTHING written and published online. It is insane the amount of data they have. You want a news source to do more pieces on your school? When the articles are written, read them. Click on them. Share them. They know what is being read. Come on people - it doesn't take a rocket scientist to look around at the crowd at a Summit League Tournament game to know who is showing up, buying tickets and spending money. I hate it, but the truth hurts. Go Yotes!

Buddy, I am going to tell you from my first hand account, Simmons is not 3rd string. Come Fall, I believe he is going to give Saeger a run for the starting position - and I really like Saeger. That was the point of the article. Woodward is a fine player and, out of necessity, was second string last year, but he isn't even on scholarship to my knowledge. I know from coaches comments last year that had there been a meaningful injury to Saeger last year, there would have been a very serious conversation about burning Simmons' redshirt and starting him. They did everything they could to insulate him because they wanted to maximize his impact on the field for as many years as possible. The last staff thought Simmons was the type of talent you can lift an entire team up with. It is similar to SDSU and Taryn Christian - we took the approach that burning Simmons' RS was not in our best interest. They took the opposite approach. I am not saying one is right or wrong. Just saying that our staff thinks very highly of Simmons' potential. That is a story most football fans are VERY interested in, I think.

So does anyone have any names of folks being interviewed/looked at yet? Yea,they could have thrown us a bone to chew on by now (no pun intended,I use this figure of speech a lot)....like how many people have shown interest so far ,maybe even a mention of some of the most notable ones....the fans are always thirsty for more information,it'd be wise to keep 'em happy and content ......besides,not hearing anything could be taken negatively, you know, that there's not a lot of interest,if the silence goes on for a prolonged time. They could lay these fears or concerns aside by simply providing a tad bit more information as to how well the process is proceeding.
