First off coyotefan,
Rule #1 of how not to be a dick on Forums is to read all the posts before. I'll apologize for destroying your comments beforehand: sorry.
How is this team anything like last year? One returning starter, a young team full of energy, the first time we've won our First game in a season since moving to D1, and MOST IMPORTANTLY... opportunities for growth and an immense amount of potential. Yeah we should have beat both Drake and BG by 10-15+, but chemistry isn't built overnight.
The woman making a "How-To" video? Seriously? The games aren't similar in any sense... especially speed. Also, last time I checked, the point spread of both victories were pretty damn close tonight.
Your "grades" are bullshit, and your vision is limited. Celebrate in our WINS, see the positives in the fact that we have the will power to win in close games down the stretch, and give these boys some time to actually play together before you criticize every single thing they do "coach".
...And I don't even want to get started on your hate for coach Smith. A win is a win.

A win is a win. Now thats a solid first post. Welcome. Pretty much said anything I wanted to say. The more coyotefan goes on his rambles, the less I think he knows about basketball. The goal is to be playing our best basketball come March, not November flipping 13th. There's bound to be a few of these games, and more likely than not we will lose a game like this in the next month or so. I really like the games of our 3 freshmen guards. Peterson had an off day shooting, but he has a stroke that makes you think everything is going in, and Simpson looks like he will be a complete point guard at this level. Crowd was pretty weak but I am not surprised. PLace has the potential to be so LOUD as our fans become more educated on the effect they can have.

Enjoyed seeing the new Yotes team this weekend.
A couple of quick impressions: Athleticism, depth and youth.
TBM and Mooney look like they are ready to "take and make" the pressure shots. We have 2 really promising PGs. A lot of blocked shots and opponent's misses in the paint.
I know it's early, and there will be a lot of experience to gain over the long season, but so far so good in my opinion!

CF - it looks like you are trying a bit too hard to put a negative light on Coach Smith. To say, after 1.5 games, that you think they were 'exactly like last year' is out there a bit. BG was big and long - much bigger than we will see most nights in the SL - and after a period of adjustment they figured it out. Not to mention Flack didn't play much in the first half after he got hurt. And I'm not sure what to say about this group not being obviously more athletic than last year - if that isn't stunningly obvious it is because you are looking for it to not be.
Both MBB and WBB made a bunch of freshman mistakes - which should be expected early in the year with teams that play a bunch of freshman. It seems like the ceiling could be pretty high for this team when they reach 'mid-season form'. I really appreciated the aggressive perimeter defense (GATA, I guess?) which we weren't quick enough to be able to do in the past. It makes the game feel a bit sloppy/uncontrolled at times, but that is the point - take them out of a rhythm.

This team could win the regular season and conference tournament, and a first round NCAA tourney win, and CF would still be critical of the team because they didn't make the Sweet 16.

I agree with the last couple of comments. Very different team. For those who did not attend last night see video link below for a few highlights. Even with a dissapointing crowd at crunch time, the crowd made an impact. People not in attendance missed out!! www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jfi6z0540jo&sns=em

I personally drove almost 5 hours to see this game at the brand new arena. So much to be excited about. Easily our most athletic team we have had and offensively skilled at all positions for a change. In addition this is still a young team with a year or two of growth ahead of it. We beat a MAC team and at times yesterday Smith had three true freshman and a former walk on in Power on the court. New arena is awesome but was very disappointed in the turn out. Was there a reason the students weren't there yesterday? The place holds noise incredibly well and if we fill it will be an awesome home court advantage. Bring on the Summit and the bunnies as we can compete with them all this year in my opinion.

Attendance was dismal, but my son and I had a great time nonetheless. Both the men's and women's teams are going to be fun to watch this year and despite the "downer" posts by CF, this men's team is much improved over last year. There are some really ballers on this team. Can't wait to go back Wednesday and Thursday night this week to watch the men play again.

Hot take alert: The men may finish with a better record than the women.

Let's not go over board. I graded the teams performance a C- so it's not like I gave them an F or anything. I said I would give this team until the Summit League starts before I completely judge them. We played our first two games against teams that each finished last in their conference last year. We also had a huge advantage over Bowling Green with the all extra preparation from the Spain trip. 3 players were with the program all of last year so they got more familiar then true freshman would get. Even though I am not as impressed as apparently everyone else I do reserve the right to change my mind at some point.

Not to let any facts get in the way of your argument, but Bowling Green also had the "extra preparation" time as they took a trip to Italy this past summer

I really have to disagree with your statement about no noticeable difference in talent, Coyote Fan. For the first time ever the Coyotes can take the court and not look undersized against a fellow mid-major. Even with our subs in, we don't look undersized. Every single starting position is an upgrade. The fact that Burch-Manning can get a double-double without you noticing speaks to how talented he is. Shame on you for not noticing by the way, this guy is a bright spot. It's clear we are going to lean on Burch-Manning to keep us in games this year. He is showing signs that he may even be up for the task. Add to that Matt Mooney who clearly isn't afraid to take over a game to clinch the win, even if he's having a bad day.
The Summit is pretty stacked this year with UNO, IUPUI, IPFW, NDSU, and SDSU all looking pretty good. It might be a rough road and our record might not show it, but this will easily be the most competitive D-I year for the Yote men. I remain extremely excited and encouraged for this season.
