Mooney's 3s at the end of the game with JVG voice over! Fun to watch and listen to his commentating.

Love him or hate him... it's hard to find someone that is as enjoyable to listen to than Van Goor when something like this happens!

It always seems like Telly has a big game against us, granted not as big as yesterday, but it still seems like he plays better against us than anyone else. I think State is much more dangerous than the other teams battling for the 5-8 seeds. I would like to avoid them, although like I've said before, there are no gimmes. The only team I would feel comfortable with would be Western Illinois. Not that they are a sure win, but they are closer to that than anyone else. Sure hope IPFW can come through for us on Wednesday. It would sure be nice to get that one seed with NDSU and Denver at the 2 and 3. I still can't believe that we can't sell out a 6,000 seat stadium for the State game. Is State drawing less fans than they were in the DII days as well? ESPN listed only 2,500 fans for the state/u game in Brookings. Granted it was on New Year's Eve and with the women's game in Vermillion.
Good to see SDSU still sporting the 6 year old fad of black jerseys again this weekend. They must really hate their school colors since the never wear them. I guess they do turn themselves into banana mode once a year when they wear yellow pants and jerseys for football.

I wonder if recruits of any kind were in attendance? Purely speculation, but there was a very tall young man who came in with his parents and sat 1 or 2 rows directly behind the Yote bench. When the game had finished, once the team completed their trip past the courtside seats, the young man went into the tunnel with the team. Assuming this is whom you're referring to...

I have been a bit hard on JVG but I do enjoy when he loses it a bit with those big threes. How he called those buckets, especially the last one is exactly how I felt and acted while at the game. When at home I would rather have a guy go over the top excited then to be too boring. the purists might have thought he went over board on those calls but I say screw it, I was excited and want my announcer to feel the same passion. When that last 3 went in to extend it to 88-81 with under a minute left that was kind of the realization moment when the Coyotes had the game. The ending may have been a little too nerve racking but that last 3 was the point of no return for the Jacks. That was one of the most memorable endings I can ever remember and for that to happen was probably the best single moment times 3 of any moment to date in the new arena.
Prior to those Mooney threes it was definitely nervous mode. The Coyotes had played so well but couldn't shake the pesky Rabbits. I think when a game goes from a 50-50 game to a 90% odds of a win in less then 2 minutes it is deserving of a bonkers moment for everyone that cheers for USD.

It pains me to say this, but I hope state runs the table to get to 8-8 and to about a 5 seed.

After looking at the video you can see Joe at the end of the scorers table throwing up his arms in celebration during the first two threes. You couldn't see him on the third but it wouldn't have surprised me had he gotten out of his seat and leaped in celebration on that one. As far as the Jacks they can end up in the opposite bracket as far as I am concerned. If the Yotes finish first they need to be 6th or 7th, if the Yotes finish 2nd that is when they need to move up to the top of the bracket hopefully as a 5. The Jacks are a scary team for one game but I don't think they have the defense to be able to get through all 3 games. It's unlikely they will light it up like they did in Vermillion for three games in a row or be able to hold the other team down long enough to get through 3 games. Provided the moment isn't too big for a younger team the Coyotes have the kind of a team that could win three in a row.

FWIW I believe that NDSU will hold on to win the regular season title. If we win Inwill be pleasantly surprised. Even if we take care of our business against ORU, that last road trip could be tricky. There are some interesting games on the schedules this week and I hope we can have a Saturday night game locked up soon.

We were all treated to a tremendous game - both teams competed and played very well. I think both fan bases could walk away feeling like their respective teams (if they play that well in the Summit Tourney) will be tough to beat. Games like that are what will build the rivalry back up. In order to have a rivalry one side cannot win all the time. USD stepped up and beat SDSU when they played well. Obviously SDSU was missing two contributors from the game just like USD was missing a crucial piece (Flack) for the one point loss up in Brookings earlier this season. South Dakota is fortunate to have two universities obviously committed to doing well right now. Anyone in the stands yesterday, if they have a beating heart, enjoyed the energy and will want to come back and experience a live event again. Make sure you get your friends to come and experience games like that - it is how we can grow attendance and hopefully get to the 3k-4k a game average basketball attendance and 10k football average attendance. With a quality product like the University is producing - that shouldn't be hard. My prediction is the SDSU v USD rivalry is about to shift up a few notches. Nothing would ratchet it up more than to face the Jacks in the Summit tournament, eliminate them, and go on to win the tournament. That is a very tall task, but this team is capable. Football will be the next piece to step up. USD has never invested this much money and resources into putting a winning product on the court/field. We are starting to see some results. Should be fun to watch some great games over the next several years with SDSU, NDSU and other conference powers. 1 out of 5 and 4. Good luck with football. You're getting better, but we shall see. Basketball will ratchet up probably but I don't see the Jacks/varmints game passing the Marker Game anytime soon, sorry. Y'all pissed that away yourselves. I mean, you have fans that didn't know the Little Brown Jug was a thing....

Just like SDSU needs to continue to try and win against NDSU to keep that rivalry relevant. If the trend continues with the inclusion of UND in the Summit and Valley they will be NDSUs main rival again. Last 10 games in football SDSU 2 wins and 8 losses to NDSU Last 10 games in basketball SDSU 3 wins and 7 losses to NDSU

Don't mind thumper, he is mad at life. Yes, some fans who were not part of the D2 days did not know about the jug. I'm surprised you did since SDT is not a rival.

Should I warn Thumper about smack in a non-smack thread? Nah, we run a better place here than they do over on the Bunny Board.
Thumper, and all State fans, should be getting salty. SDSU's grip on this D-1 move is all but gone. The last piece USD needs to draw even is to win in football and that will come in short order. They all know it, the entire conference knows Coyote football is on the rise, yet rabbit fans refuse to see it. Oh well, we took the WBB mantle from them. We've passed them in MBB this year. Track & field, forget about it, not even close at this point. Softball, soccer, go right down the list and USD has either pulled even or passed SDSU by. Only two pieces of the puzzle left, a Summit basketball title, and a win in football with a trip to the playoffs, which will happen in short order.
The Rabbit reign was short lived, I hope they enjoyed it while it lasted.

Here is the data to back up your conclusion. Men's NCAA appearances Last 8 years SDSU 3 USD 0 Last 4 years SDSU 2 USD 0 (SDSU 1 in its first 4 years of eligibility) Last 2 years SDSU 1 USD 0 Women's NCAA apearances Last 8 years SDSU 7 USD 1 Last 4 years SDSU 3 USD 1 (SDSU 4 in its first 4 years of eligibility) Last 2 years SDSU 2 USD 0 Football Playoffs Last 9 years SDSU 6 USD 0 Last 5 years SDSU 5 USD 0 (SDSU 2 in its first 5 years of eligibility) Last 2 years SDSU 2 USD 0 Overall SDSU has made the NCAA tournament or Football playoffs 16 time out of a possible 25 including 7 of its first 13 possible compared to USD's 1 appearance in the NCAA tournament or playoff in its first 13 times eligible for the combined three sports I do agree that your programs are now moving up rapidly and the competition will be strong in the future, but the baton has hardly been passed. As to other sports, soccer has made the national tournament twice I believe, volleyball once, men's golf once and baseball once. As a side note, some time ago, I calculated the number of appearances of FCS school in the NCAA tournament/Playoffs for the three sports for the past 8 years and SDSU had more appearances than any other FCS school in the country during that time period.
