I wonder if recruits of any kind were in attendance? Purely speculation, but there was a very tall young man who came in with his parents and sat 1 or 2 rows directly behind the Yote bench. When the game had finished, once the team completed their trip past the courtside seats, the young man went into the tunnel with the team.

We will be fine. Once we stopped doubling daum, we were a lot more effective on D. I can live with tellinghuesen casting NBA 3's if we see them again. I wasn't a big fan of doubling Daum either. The only thing it did do was help keep Flack out of foul trouble. He had zero in 1st half and that made a huge difference in the outcome IMO.

If the new arena isn't enough there is always this game that all potential recruits could be invited to. Imagine if the attendance could just get up to 2500 average per game. If both programs continue the success I would think that kind of an average number would not be that difficult to maintain.

It always seems like Telly has a big game against us, granted not as big as yesterday, but it still seems like he plays better against us than anyone else. I think State is much more dangerous than the other teams battling for the 5-8 seeds. I would like to avoid them, although like I've said before, there are no gimmes. The only team I would feel comfortable with would be Western Illinois. Not that they are a sure win, but they are closer to that than anyone else. Sure hope IPFW can come through for us on Wednesday. It would sure be nice to get that one seed with NDSU and Denver at the 2 and 3. I still can't believe that we can't sell out a 6,000 seat stadium for the State game. Is State drawing less fans than they were in the DII days as well?

Pure speculation, but I wonder if the success of the SLT hasn't hurt some of the rivalry game attendance? We are in an era when sports writers/shows consider seasons and players failures if they don't win the post season championship - but don't really care at all about the regular season championship. In that context, the SLT is the only thing that matters. (In fact, Zimmer has written that in the past week or so). So why bother going to the regular season games?
P.S. - I personally don't agree with that logic.

We were all treated to a tremendous game - both teams competed and played very well. I think both fan bases could walk away feeling like their respective teams (if they play that well in the Summit Tourney) will be tough to beat. Games like that are what will build the rivalry back up. In order to have a rivalry one side cannot win all the time. USD stepped up and beat SDSU when they played well. Obviously SDSU was missing two contributors from the game just like USD was missing a crucial piece (Flack) for the one point loss up in Brookings earlier this season. South Dakota is fortunate to have two universities obviously committed to doing well right now. Anyone in the stands yesterday, if they have a beating heart, enjoyed the energy and will want to come back and experience a live event again. Make sure you get your friends to come and experience games like that - it is how we can grow attendance and hopefully get to the 3k-4k a game average basketball attendance and 10k football average attendance. With a quality product like the University is producing - that shouldn't be hard.
My prediction is the SDSU v USD rivalry is about to shift up a few notches. Nothing would ratchet it up more than to face the Jacks in the Summit tournament, eliminate them, and go on to win the tournament. That is a very tall task, but this team is capable. Football will be the next piece to step up. USD has never invested this much money and resources into putting a winning product on the court/field. We are starting to see some results. Should be fun to watch some great games over the next several years with SDSU, NDSU and other conference powers.

Is State drawing less fans than they were in the DII days as well? I've seen this sentiment a few times. So a sellout for this game is unacceptable but 2000 at every other league game is? I think with more success we will see better attendance. A one season dramatic chsnge seems like a lot to ask for.

Have to agree with golfingyote. We should be focusing on attendance on a nightly basis instead of one specific game. What is it going to take to get people to show up on a regular basis? We have a new facility and an exciting team to watch, how long until the public catches on? Will we see a significant boost in attendance next year if we find ourselves hoisting the trophy in Sioux Falls in a few weeks?

I find it baffling when people that don't have season tickets and don't consistently come to games talk about average attendance at home games. On another note, it was awesome to have a big crowd on hand to watch us beat State. There were only 2518 up in Brookings when Daum travelled to victory over our guys earlier in the season. 5265 seems pretty good compared to that attendance number.

That game was also on New Years Eve which no doubt hurt attendence.

To be fair, Daum just about double-dribbled his team to victory on Saturday. (I watched the replay, and found it funny even the announcer said it out loud.)
