Summit League regular season Champions, winners of 22 games this season, winners of 7 of the last 8 games 5 of which were on the road and of those, 4 road game wins were necessary to become outright Champions!!!
At the start of the season even the most die hard Coyote fan (including me) would have been hard pressed to imagine this type of season with a lot of new comers that had very little D1 experience.
YET THESE COYOTE PLAYERS AND COACHES MADE IT HAPPEN AND I FOR ONE COULDN'T BE PROUDER!! AND THE GOOD NEWS IS THEY STILL AREN'T DONE!!
THANK-YOU YOTES!!!!

We, meaning my family, have always had season football tickets. We would go to the occasional men's and women's basketball games in the Dome, but it was hard to get excited about throwing down the $$ for season basketball tickets.
We attended every home game during the women's WNIT run last year and had a great time every game. The excitement with what the women did last last year and the anticipation of the new arena convinced us to buy season basketball tickets for the 2016-17 season.
We attended every single men's and women's game in the new arena this year and watched every game we could on TV when they were away. We have become fully vested in Yote basketball. Those players and coaches on the men's and women's squads have become like family members to us. Each of my kids can name every player on both squads by their first and last names.
The season feels like it just started yesterday and we are already excited for next season. Couldn't be prouder of those kids and coaches.
We lived through every emotional high and low with those two teams this year. My oldest son, who is 11, took the loss last night particularly hard... I have told him time after time that when you follow a college team closely, doesn't matter the sport, they will take you on a roller coaster ride every year... you have to learn to live with the highs and the lows or you had better not follow college athletics.
Looking forward to seeing the men and women continue in the post season.
A bad day as a Yote is still better than any great day as a bunny. Spring football is almost upon us! Go YOTES!!!

When a team is picked 7th out of 9 teams and wins the conference title outright you cant ask for a better season.
Flack was a fun player to watch the last 4 years.

The only good thing about coming up short is there should be plenty of hunger for this program to continue to strive to get to that NCAA tournament. Doubts were starting to creep in for me about Smith in the off season but he really stepped up his coaching game and his players sitting out as it ended up had a lot to do with that as well. Smith and the Coyote players were really nothing but hype coming into this season but now the results have been proven and that is a nice shot in the arm going forward. Smith put most of his eggs into this years basket and it paid off big time.
Just looking at the roster does anyone know anything about any of these following players that are listed. Are any sitting out or were any of them just lingering at the end of the bench with no real playing time.
Jack Stensgard Joshua Doss Brady Delimont
Also does anyone know which players will be coming into the program next year as either transfers or freshman. I hope that Smith gets into trying to building through recruiting more then through transfers.

Great season, Yotes!
I've kept my eye on the team all season. Plenty to be proud of, and plenty to look forward to with this program it appears.
Best of luck in the post season!

Delimont red-shirted and I've heard good things about him. He's a Kasperbauer-esque player, and I believe he has the Nebraska high school record for three-pointers. As far as Stensgard, I've heard nothing about him. He might be an on-the-fringe guy if they can find a transfer

Delimont is a 6'2" SG, PG from Ainsworth Neb. His 320 made 3s is a Neb record (36%). Also had 297 career 2s (57%) averaging over 18 pts for his career. 82% FT shooter. All State as Sr averaging 27 pts/gm. Was All Conference all 4 yrs.

As far as new recruits coming in, check the thread on 2017 recruits... I believe we have two signed already coming in next year...? This link has a listing of players as well: www.verbalcommits.com/schools/south-dakota

That is great to hear about Delimont. I think the two biggest needs will be a rather beefy big (or how about a Flack clone) to help out Hagedorn and Sparks and a guy that can light it up from outside. If he pans out a 1/2 punch of him and Mooney from outside will be nice.

This year kind of got me to thinking back a few years, like the D2 years. I remember when Yote fans thought the Coyotes and the NCC were pretty good but when they would play the good teams from the GLIAC league from around the Michigan through Kentucky region they would get their butts kicked by those teams. They had fringe D1 teams from that conference. More in particular I remember in the late 90's going to the North Central regional in Wayne Nebraska. It was looking like the Coyotes would have a shot to get to the elite 8 that year but then came Metro State who was a little known school from Denver Colorado that were very athletic and fast paced. I remember how the Coyotes just couldn't hang with that team because the NCC was a big but really not very athletic conference. The Jacks and Coyotes had trouble hanging with that team during that small era in the late 90's. I bring that up because my oh my have things changed from an athletic stand point. The Coyotes are now in a conference where having good athletes isn't a luxury but a necessity and the Coyotes now have plenty of them. We went from one of the least athletic teams to one of the most in a year.
This year was so rewarding for me personally as I had a chance to go to several games that I haven't done for a few years. At one point towards the end of January the Women's team was 7-1 and in first place and the men were 4-3 and in the middle of the pack. The Women had a good year and an over achieving year but the men kind of stole the show in Vermillion this year. I remember sitting in the SCSC remembering over the first couple of home games that the crowd would cheer louder for the women then for the men. I was honestly bored for most of the game vs Bowling Green and I really didn't see alot that made me real excited about the team. There were different times during the year that the men took big steps. The Omaha game was the first game where I said "wow I think we have something here". That was the beginning of the real improvement. Then obviously at NDSU everything took off. I haven't been this invested in men's basketball for quite some time before this team.

USD is Summit League champions. No one can take that away from us. Watching our team go from 8th to 1st has made for the funnest season I've ever had following a team. Lots of guys you genuinely love and want to succeed, led by an incredible coaching staff that you love and want to succeed, playing in a brand new facility that doesn't take a backseat to anything in the region.
Future is bright. Literally the only question is how Hagedoorn, Sparks, and Jech will fill the spot left by Flack. The other 4 spots on the floor, depth, and coaching staff are all rock solid through at least the 2018-19 season (unless Smith leaves for a bigger offer, but a successful coach being poached is a good problem to have).
I would say that we should be #1 in the 2017-18 preseason poll, but who the hell cares where they have us? We're favorites to repeat.

Agree with Yotes, the Coyotes have arrived and the Summit League has been served.
Every season is a new chapter, but I fully expect tne Coyotes to start where we left off, Summit League Champions, taking all comers, and looking to win 3 games in March.
Bright future indeed, I think we may have some freshmen to help replace Flack, if not, Hagedorn, Jech, Sparks and experienced youth will likely do the trick.
Go Yotes, proud of this team!

Doss has size, athleticism and is very smart. He is also a chemistry/glue guy. Prevost is a big. He was offensive POY in his district in Houston. Umude is a guard with range and length - he is 6'6"!
