Does Coach Smith usually bench players after they draw a tech foul (ie Mooney)? I have never paid attention to this before if he had done it in the past. I can't remember previous technicals to say, but guarantee that Mooney doesn't let this happen again. I know he had a technical in the home grinder against Denver last year. He was never pulled and he went on to have a huge game. I'm fairly certain he had a tech in another game last year, but can't remember which one. Whatever he said must have been pretty unsportsmanlike or Coach is just growing tired of the antics.

Wasn't the technical his 4th foul though? Maybe Coach didn't want him to foul out and then kept him out when the team was playing well without him.

I was in attendance at the game. Struck up a conversation with a savvy UCLA fan next to me and we chatted the whole game. He was just telling me about this certain referee and how terrible he was, how he was a prima donna and inserted himself into every game, how he was the worst Pac 12 official. Five seconds later, the technical on Mooney, and guess who, the ref that he pointed out making the call. Then at the end of the game, that same ref acting as ringleader, bringing the refs from the official scorer's table over to the media table and back. No announcements at all, the crowd was getting restless and openly booing the officials, I mean the whole crowd, everyone was like what the hell is going on? When the ball was inbounded it appeared that Armstrong was fouled receiving the ball and that the closest ref was calling the foul, but then the buzzer rang and the three ring circus began. Bottom line is this, the clock official made a judgement call they should not have made and the refs covered it up with the help of the media table. I certainly hope that Smith and USD filed a complaint about the officiating.
It was a great experience going to Pauley. I spoke to a handful of UCLA fans before the game and they knew about USD, they knew we were good and were genuinely worried about an upset. The guy next to me was blown away by Matt Mooney. As we departed the arena he told me "See you in the tourney". Win or lose, these games against big time programs like Duke and UCLA are bringing recognition to the program.
The real reason I'm posting though....any word on Hags? I assume he broke his nose. Not surprised he didn't play against Northland. Any word on the official diagnosis or his return?

Information I received from reliable sources said his nose wasn't broken, but the cartilage was displaced so I'll run with that for now. I don't really know what the difference between the two, pain level or lingering effects are. Any doctors on here? Might see him wearing a mask against Denver, but that's pure speculation.

UCLA just defeated #7 Kentucky 83-75 at Kentucky which makes the Coyotes effort against UCLA even more impressive!

When it comes to this discussion the amount of attention that this deserves with the ending of the game IMO pales in comparison to the amount of attention that the Summit Tourney Semi-Final game deserved last year.
The UCLA game had one very controversial ending that involved a suspicious ruling on the last inbound. If the call is not botched the Coyotes probably still lose the game. In the grand scheme of things the loss isn't really that big of a deal considering the hole that the Coyotes put themselves in in the first place. One bad call or decision is not generally going to have me that particularly upset about it.
Now in the Jacks semi-final game there were 11 straight fouls called during the second half in that game. I am not saying that none of them were deserved but there was more than one occasion that Daum got the benefit of the doubt and that the game was not being called evenly on both sides. 11 straight calls in a crucial juncture of a game that completely turned momentum and absolutely changed the outcome of the game. It more then likely determined which team went to the NCAA tourney and changed the perception of which team had the better overall season. Whether that is true or not who knows but perception is reality.
That game still bothers me and it is to the point where my overall opinion of the Summit League is lower because of it. Whether it should be lower who knows but that game really stung. I can't think of a game in history that ever lingered with me before this far after the fact. That is the game if any that should create the most discussion.

We played, and nearly beat, some truly great teams this year. Duke, UCLA, and TCU have 4 losses between them and could be in for deep tournament runs. I can remember that first full year of D1 when we lost to the 11th place team in the Big 12 by 39 points. We've come such a long way. To the point that a team who may contend for the Big 12 title was fortunate to escape with a victory against USD.
The Yotes have hung with some of the best teams in the nation and head into conference play at 12-4. Same record we posted in Summit play last year. We can't go 12-4 again since IUPUI jumped ship, but we might win 12 again. It seems like a clear two-horse race for the Summit and we've been more consistent than the other. Very confident we repeat as Summit champions.

Well said, Yotes.
I'm a little confused about the "two horses", but also very confident of the Yotes chances for a repeat!

Not to speak for him but guessing a "two horse race" of USD and SDSU. Correct. I'm guessing there will be a sharp drop off after 2nd place in the final standings.
