Coach P's comments about NDSU in the Denver post-game:
Q: What's the biggest change you have seen from (NDSU)?
"I think NDSU is a team that has a great inside-out punch. They're a team that, if you take one area away, they've got a counter to it. I think they are a team that's playing with an awful lot of confidence right now, and had a really big win last night. (They are) certainly a team that's going to be firing on all cylinders. We need a little bit of recovery from this game, and then we've got to get ready"
Q: Fargo has been a frustrating place for the USD women in the last few years, even when you have won up there. So how do you solve that?
"I think that what's really important for us, even after this game, is that: We made some strides defensively in the non-conference, and even today. Ultimately, we're gonna have to go on the road, and we're gonna have to be really solid defensively. And take care of the basketball, and take good shots. And go from there.
But our goal is to be the aggressor. I think that's a challenge when you go on the road. We start with NDSU, then go to Western Illinois. And they're very good teams, very aggressive. So we've got our work cut out for us."

what's up with the 5:00 tip off? I'm not sure why. NDSU doesn't have any other sports event today. MidcoSN doesn't cover any other live events today. USD women played UND @ 5 a couple weeks ago on a Thursday, but it was a double-header. Weird. Maybe an Athletic Department preference so they don't have to pay for a hotel? Who knows.

Maybe to catch a flight yet tonight to get to Macomb in a reasonable time for Thursday's game??? Just a guess.

Some stats and matchups from the USD Sports Info article I linked above:
NDSU has shot and defended the 3 very well. Best in conference. They are shooting 38.1% and allowing 27.7% USD has been very good in the paint, outscoring opponents 420-312.
NDSU is also #17 in the nation in assists at 18.4 per game. USD is forcing 17.8 turnovers per game, which could disrupt the Bison's passing.
Sophomore Guard Sarah Jacobson (Jersey #12) is second in the conference in assists, assists per game, and assist/turnover ratio. All-conference PG Emily Clemens leads those categories.

Just looking at Ciara Duffy's stats... forget the career game this weekend, she has just been flat-out better since coming back from injury. She started our first six games, was out for three games, played limited minutes in one game, then has been starting for four games. I compared her stats from her six games in November with the four starts in December:
Stat--------------first6----last4 minutes/game---31.5------34.5 FG att/game------7.8------11.5 FG %-------------40.4------50.0 3P att/game-------3.7-------5.5 3P %-------------31.8------54.5 FT att/game------1.8-------2.8 FT %-------------81.8-------81.8 Rebounds/game--5.7-------5.8 P Fouls/game----1.2--------1.0 Assist/TO-------0.714-----0.767 Blocks/game-----0.17------0.50 Steals/game------1.0-------2.0 Points/game----9.0-----16.8!
She is better in literally every major stat. And only a Sophomore. The only stat she was better in as a Freshman was that she had a 1.54 Assist/turnover ratio, but she was playing point guard then.

Very nice first quarter and a 27-14 lead. I guess Jaycee Bradley has shown up big so far with 3 triples and the Coyotes are 5 out of 6 from deep. The team is really playing well and playing with energy. Just keep it up and demoralize the Bison.

Regarding the point guard discussion, I still think we need a true PG. There are times on the fast break, like a few times with Arens, where she just doesn't see the open person. Overall though, I thought we passed much better this game.

These NDSU Midco commentators are like listening to an NPR culinary show being hosted in a library. Not much life to their broadcast.

FINAL
SOUTH DAKOTA 82 NORTH DAKOTA STATE 67
The was a nice performance for the Coyotes this evening and any kind of mid season slump has been put to rest. Bradley ended up 8 for 9, including 5 for 5 from three. The ball movement was good in this game and that was key. The Coyotes haven't been shooting well from three because their shots haven't been good shots. Today was different. They looked like they did for much of last year taking many open looks and burying them. This team can shoot the rock when they setup the shots properly. I can't stress enough how important that comeback was against North Dakota. That was clutch because they were not good for much of that game.
Trimboli stood out for having a good game as well as Jaycee. Arens was typical Arens always finding a way to get to the hoop. Really most of the players on this team are good at taking their defender one on one and finishing at the rim. I feel much better about things than I did 3 weeks ago. They are just playing better together and better overall. It is good that the Coyotes took care of business because next is at Western Illinois and that will be a tough one for sure.

Very good game by the Lady Yotes especially with ball movement which resulted in a lot of open 3 looks and they knocked down many. Also played very aggressive D for the most part forcing over 20 turnovers! Had some difficulty getting the ball into the post but did a good job of taking what NDSU was giving them. Next on to Western Illinois--should be a great game!!

Interesting that 2 games in a row we score 27 points in a 1st quarter then let off the gas a little bit and let the opponent back into it. I believe it was the 3rd quarter the margin got down to 4, but the Yotes answered with a 9-0 run and got it right back to 13 if memory serves me correctly. Very impressive and mature road win.
