Here is the bracket
1) South Dakota State vs 8) Western Illinois - Saturday at 6PM 4) Fort Wayne vs 5) North Dakota State - Sunday 3) Denver vs 6) Oral Roberts - Sunday 2) South Dakota vs 7) Omaha - Saturday at 8:30PM
My prediction
SDSU will beat WIU 92-78 but the closest game of the three they played NDSU will upset Fort Wayne 76-75 Denver will beat Oral Roberts 80-64 USD will beat Omaha 83-64
SDSU will beat NDSU 79-76 in a game where the Jacks get lucky to win USD will beat Denver 77-75 with a late Matt Mooney three pointer to save the day.
USD will beat SDSU 82-72 in a game where the luck will finally run out for the Jacks. The tired legs for SDSU and their lack of depth on the bench will come back to bite them. I think the game will be about even at half but the Coyotes will take over a tight game with about 12:00 to go and the Coyote fans will finally get to storm the court in Sioux Falls for the Men's team.

I see a slight bunny bias in his voting... Guess I shouldn't be surprised.

I had to rush to the Stats, to see if there were 5 newcomers better than Chloe Lamb. I can't argue with Zim or the stats, but I wouldn't trade Chloe for any of them. IMHO

I think the story of the day on Saturday was the Jacks struggling and having a high stress game that took much energy to get through. The Coyotes on the other hand kind of breezed through most of the game. The gas tank is quite a bit more full on the Coyotes side vs the Jacks. Here is the breakdown of minutes played in the first game.
Coyotes - 26,26,25,23,21,20,19,17,16,3,1,1,1,1 = Now that is a really good job of utilizing the bench.
Jacks - 35,35,33,33,24,24,11,5
T.J. mentioned during one of his interviews about a month or two ago that he can get by with using a shortened bench because the schedule is a little easier to get through without any back to backs. That habbit could come back to burn the Jacks because of his unwillingness to prepare his team for the grind of the Summit Tourney. Maybe it won't matter but right now the Coyotes are in better shape after the first game.
Craig Smith has made a point of using his bench, especially later in the year. Sparks getting those good minutes was huge tonight as he played 21 quality minutes which is 21 minutes less wear and tear for the other players that could be needed on Monday and/or Tuesday.
The Coyotes minutes were not high stress minutes but the Jacks had to play against a more grinding WIU team that didn't beat them but did make them work which is huge for the Coyotes. There is a reason that I did not list Western Illinois as the team I most wanted the Coyotes to play and tonight is a good example.
This long weekend is not about winning a game or two, it is about winning the tournament and Craig Smith and the Coyotes started out the journey by managing the first step to near perfection. There are no guarantees but it seems like the Coyotes really have a plan in place to have the best chance possible to win this thing.

When State got down in the 2nd half my wife was getting excited, I tried telling her that if you seriously think these summit refs are going to allow them to get beat in the first round you are crazy. From then on it looked like the second half of our tournament game against them last year just a foul every time down the court culminating in Daum getting stripped with 13 seconds left with a BS bailout call. The winner of IPFW and ndsu better understand they will need to be 10 points better than State tomorrow night if they want to advance to the title.

usdcoyote,
If your post is true than the Summit should want to do the same to ensure the Coyotes advance as well. Maybe this time if they want a State vs U final they might want to consider really giving the Coyotes all the calls in the final because if they keep giving all those calls to the Jacks maybe the Coyote fans will stop showing up to this tourney if they know it will always be 8 on 5 against them. Obviously the tin foil hat arguments are kind of funny to talk about and for the 90% of it they are probably not true but for that 10% in last years semi finals the way the officiating called the game in the second half does not exactly relax the minds of the conspiracy theorists.

Fort Wayne really let me down at the end of this one. Down by something like 23 points with 16 minutes left they got all the way back to within 1, but turned it over both times they had a chance to take the lead. IPFW is the team that would have given sdsu more trouble. NDSU played out of their minds in the first half tonight but seem incapable of playing a complete game. I'll be surprised if their game is even close tomorrow.

I wish IPFW never would have made their run now because all that did was expend a bunch of ndsu energy. Hopefully oral will make Denver work in the 2nd half.

Denver banks an off balance 3 from the corner to send it to overtime. I'd much rather play Oral Roberts but I suppose OT helps us either way.

Denver wins 90-88 in 2OT. ORU had 20 seconds to tie/win and couldn't get a shot off.
