Massey Ratings has us in another close game, and pegs us to lose at home 70-71. I like our odds in a close one at the Den! The crowd would be a major factor. If we can pull 3,072 in a Sweet-sixteen game on a weeknight, I think we will do one K better in an elite-8 game on a Sunday. Massey now has it #49 USD 71, #33 TCU 70.

It is too bad that the Craig Smith news/rumor has kind of put a slight damper on this game but I imagine it will be temporary come 6PM tonight. Tickets sales were on the slower side on Saturday compared to Friday. There were still a few seats available late last night in the middle sections but very limited. Today they are completely sold out including singles. The corner sections closer to the student section are nearly sold out and the corner sections on the opposite side of the court are about 70% sold at this point. Most of the seats are still available behind the basketball opposite the student section. A reasonable guess with walk up is that we are looking at a very loud crowd of 4500-5000 for tonight's game.
I think Michigan State handled the crazy crowd on Thursday pretty well. We will see how TCU handles it tonight. They must have gotten some practice down in New Mexico but somehow I have a feeling the Coyote crowd will be more intense than the Lobo crowd but who knows.
I am just going to venture a guess that TCU will be a little more quick/athletic than Michigan State but won't have as much bulky size. With the Coyotes defense I am not overly concerned with how the Coyotes attack the TCU defense as long as they do it intelligently. If the middle is there by all means take the drive to the basket. I think against MSU the Coyotes were actually too disciplined if that makes any sense whatsoever, and passed up on some open shots only to have to settle for desperation shots later or turnovers by trying too hard to get a good shot against a brick wall MSU team. I have absolutely no problem with the team taking a lot of threes if those are the best opportunities to score. An open 3 is as good of a shot as a heavily contested 8 footer and counts for more on top of it.
I am going to say that the red wave wins the day and the Coyotes win 78-70.

Indiana beat UC Davis. that would be the potential next opponent. I read the post game article and no mention of them hosting in the semis at least not yet. if a team wins usually they announce it in less than 5 minutes if they are the unconditional host.

Attendance was listed at 6001. That's one more than our capacity. Strange coincidence, don't you think? Maybe they are attendance-trolling us....

Very curious game plan. Went away from Lamb and Duffy and back to McKeever and Arens holding it more and our ball movement struggled again. Not the best coaching today. Would have liked to see more sets to Lamb to drive.
Great season and run through the NIT though! Can’t wait for next year!

Great season for the Yote WBB. There will be another tough conference next year between the 2 SD teams.

The future is bright for the Lady Yotes. Young team will only get better, especially with the big gal transfer from New Mexico cruising the post

I can’t claim to be a knowledgeable guy in basketball regarding coaching and all the moves they make to win games or adjustments but I find it interesting when we win we’ve “outcoached” our opponents and when we lose we got “outcoached”. If basketball is anything like football, sometimes there are games where it just doesn’t come together no matter how hard you try to make it happen. Sometimes you run out of gas, sometimes you just get beat by better teams. I can’t say what happened tonight, but I will say one thing. I love these kids. Very gutty. Play hard. Play together and appears they enjoy playing together.
I think Dawn is a great coach. I think she’s got a great staff, and I think were dang fortunate to have her. Lady Coyotes, thank you for an awesome season. You’re awesome in my book.

Today just happened to be a day where our game plan didn’t look as strong as others. That’s not to say Dawn didn’t have some good games this year and bad ones too. I just don’t think it always has to be extremes.

Tough loss but TCU is not a slouch team. Their big girls were legit. We’ve been the smaller team every game this year and the lack of size hurt tonight. Once they switched to that zone it was really hard to get inside and the outside shot just wasn’t as reliable as it had been. Sometimes the shots don’t fall. The coach for TCU said after the game that she was so happy when the clock hot 0.0 because she was waiting for that next USD run. That speaks to the fight that the Yotes have played with all season. They never quit and with such effort that they exceeded everyone’s expectations. If you would have told me in November that they’d be undefeated in Summit League play and be playing in the WNIT quarterfinals I would have said you were crazy. This loss stings but the USD women are definitely in a fantastic place moving forward.

Tough to blame the coaching staff when the team outside of Bradley and Duffy was 2-for-16 from 3, they didn't box out well down the stretch and they were just overmatched down low all night.
And it was still a two-point game with under a minute to play.
That said, if you've got a kid who is 4-of-5 from deep and the other team is playing a 2-3, you'd hope there'd be a little more concerted effort from her teammates to get her a few more looks. Find the hot hand.
