That said, there is no reason that you should have a 6-foot-1 first-team all-Summit League player who hasn't shot a free throw in three games. That's a failure on a lot of levels. While I do feel that the player you are referring to is our best player and has as much talent as any player in the league, I also think at times she needs to assert herself more and put the team on her back. It's great when everyone's wheeling and dealing and she can attend to details, but at some point in a tight game a player with her ability just has to say to herself, "I got this". Any coach should be fine with that as well. Just my opinion FWIW.

She needs to be more aggressive. And she needs her coaches and teammates to facilitate a bit of that as well.

At a certain point, it has to be about the player. I do think that the coaches could facilitate more, however: We have some girls who are great at driving not passing, so help them drive. Some are good at shooting open 3’s not driving, so help them shoot. And we have some girls who are good at posting but not shooting open 3’s, so help them post. We lose too many possessions to things people don’t do well. The last few years our losses have been because, as cityleague framed it, we don’t know who should do what. And some of that is on the coaches, but I do think the players have to take ownership. All that said, I think all of us on this board agree that we have a really good team capable of big things.

This team has a ton of potential. There's a whole lot of season to figure things out.

Drake beat defending NCAA champs South Carolina last night. Notre Dame is the defending champ but the point remains that Drake is really good.

Seems to me from looking at the top 25 with Drake, Iowa State and Minnesota, who the Yotes reportedly more than held their own with in preseason scrimmages, that this team should feel like it can beat just about anybody it walks onto the floor with if it plays smart and starts making a few 3s.
