I'm not saying they won't recover but I don't think their fans really truly understand how much they're going to miss those two next year. It's going to be a rude awakening. Right. I have a hard time believing that their team will step back and stay there, but there's a giant question mark looming that hasn't been there before. Just going back to two years ago when Miller got injured they took a significant step back (3 seed in Summit, early exits in SL and WNIT). Couple Miller's graduation with another senior scoring 13.8 per game and is the conference's all-time 3-point leader and I think there's no way they are even close to this level next year. I'm sure they won't be down for long, but who is going to lead them back?

They will still be in contention for the #1 spot next year. I wouldn't be surprised to see a grad transfer or someone develop next year. Let's focus on this year.

However, the Jackrabbits may get it together by the end of the season. Meanwhile, it will be more encouraging if both teams perform this year!

If USD finally gets the preseason nod then I'm pretty sure sdsu will be buried Any team losing that seniority is going to have growing pains, it would be a concern if they didn't improve throughout the season. Wait and see how that turns out. Fun times this year for both teams.

I agree that USD should be the preseason favorite next year. I think SDSU still might be around #2. They have Selland (if healthy) and Larson. They are also hanging their hats on Kallie Theisen. She will be coming in as one of if not their highest recruit ever. She is the top ranked player in Minnesota. She is a 4 star recruit and the 103rd ranked player in the nation. She was also a honorable mention pick on Street and Smith's 1018-19 All-America team. That might be a lot to ask of a true freshmen but we will see. I think that SDSU used to be as deep as USD is right now but for some reason over the last 5 years or so they just don't seem to be that way anymore. I just want to see both teams win out this year until they meet again, have another great game and get to the NCAA tournament. Hopefully they both win a game or two (at least) so people see that in South Dakota and the Summit League play great women's basketball. I'll worry more about what SDSU has on both the men's and women's teams next year after this season is over. There will be major changes with both teams.

I agree with all of the "it's too early to talk about next year" comments but another team nobody should sleep on for next season is Denver. They are a solid team already and will lose 1 starter in Romanowski and a less than 2 point/game reserve in Simental. Another year of improvement from the returnees and anything new to the bunch will give them a team that will challenge anyone in the conference on any night.

Denver loses Romanowski and ORU loses Beatty but I'd expect both of those teams to be plenty salty next year.

To me, this is the biggest question mark for the Jacks next season. If Selland is healthy for the entire year it will go a long way to helping fill that huge hole ... but if her first two seasons are any indication, that's a big if. For her sake and the sake of South Dakota basketball, I hope she has nothing but good health for the rest of her career.
