There can be improvements made, but if it doesn't result in less interest and less revenue, then it hasn't ruined college basketball. And I don't think it will. My feeling is that my interest in having more stable rosters should not override player autonomy. I disagree. The combination of the transfer portal and NIL, both being totally unchecked at this point, have bastardized any semblance of amateurism that the NCAA used to prioritize. It also all but guarantees we'll never see a true star player wear a coyote uniform for more than a year or two. So Matt Mooney should not have pursued the opportunity he got (and created a life-changing opportunity that he took advantage of) so Coyote fans could have watched him another year? I respect your right to say that you don't like the product as much. I'm not going to try to convince you that you should. In the end, I would tend to agree with you (me personally). But it's not going to make me give up my season tickets or have a big enough impact on me to lessen my interest to more than a very minor degree. And I think that goes for a majority of fans. I guess that's my point.

I guess I'm more interested in seeing the Coyotes win a tournament game some day than being a stepping stone program. Personally, I get nothing out of watching players that decided USD wasn't good enough for them go play at other schools.

I wasn't talking about whether we as fans got something out of it. So if the Coyotes make the Summit final on that Tuesday night next March, will you have interest?

Obviously I will be interested, although a SLT final seems like a pipe dream at this point. The difference between you and I is that I'd rather see the Coyotes succeed than individual players chasing P5 aspirations.

Wow, if that's what you took from our conversation...I guess this conversation would have been better over a cold beverage. I want the Yotes to win. I also want the players to have the choice where they play. If you run a good program you will be more apt to have players want to stay and more apt to be attractive to a transfer. See you at the championship game next year. I'm buying.

Athlete’s rights were too restricted in the past. There’s probably some changes that can be made to the portal to reduce repeat transfers, but it was necessary and serves to diminish the illegal tampering that went on before. I understand that we all like familiar players and love our 5th seniors, but I will always cheer for whoever has chosen to be a Coyote.
Also, I get that bitterness can arise when a player bolts for a bigger program, but unless a talented player is clearly phoning it in, I don’t see how any fan can despise a current player. Just take it season by season hoping for enough talent to win and enough stability to keep it that way.

...it was necessary and serves to diminish the illegal tampering that went on before...This is an important point. Both in terms of transfers and also in terms of athletes being able to be compensated. The top athletes in football and men's basketball have often been involved in illegal recruiting practices and bribing/ compensation for many many years. Bringing it out into the open and deregulating it just makes it more fair to the coaches and athletes that were following the rules.

OK, tried to update our recruiting/roster matrix. I removed portal kids, and added portal kids, and moved Eberwein and Hayes down a class (redshirted)....
I have both Forte and Bullock as Juniors next season, since they both played as freshmen in that 2020-21 season that the NCAA isn't counting toward eligibility, and would be entitled to play an extra year. I have no idea if that is where Coach Pete will put them or not.
Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.
Still have an open scholarship with Kramer jumping in the portal. Wonder if they will award the schollie to Burchill rather than going portal shopping again?
I think someone mentioned either Kokal or Anderson in the Freshman class might be a walk-on? Or both? Kokal was added last, so I'd guess that's him.

Peterson said that both of those freshmen coming in are considered walk-ons.

I’ve got all the players on the roster, signed or verbal commits, kids with offers, and I make an attempt to show kids we are interested in, but that’s almost impossible to know perfectly. If you click on the year, it links to the recruiting thread for each class.
