Here is my proposal: 1) Play the play-in round and quarterfinals on campus with the higher seeds hosting. 2) Men's play-in game(s) at the higher seed on first Wednesday after regular season & women's play-in game(s) on Thursday. 3) Men's quarterfinals on first Saturday after regular season with the top 4 seeds hosting with each game assigned a tip-off time. Game 1 @ noon, game 2 @ 2:30, game 3 @ 5:00 & game 4 at 7:30. Midco/SLN broadcasts all games and hosts a half-time & between games studio show. Same format for the women on Sunday. 4) Men's semi-finals on Friday night at the Denny. Game 1 at 5:00 & game 2 @ 7:30. Men's championship on Saturday at 7:00. Semis on either Midco/SLN or CBS Sports & title game on CBS Sports. 5) Women's semi-finals on Saturday at the Denny. Game 1 at noon and game 2 at 2:30. Women's championship game on selection Sunday at noon. Semis on either Midco/SLN or CBS Sports & title game on CBS Sports. Change the ticketing process so that fans for the teams playing in each game get first shot at equal number of tickets for each fanbase of all tickets between the baselines, including those in the Premier Club. Can we drop the whole "state fans get better seats than us" excuse for poor fan support at the SLT? They outnumber us 5 to 1 in general in the state of South Dakota, not just tournament attendance. I have no idea if that's an accurate statement at all, but I bet it's close. There's more of them and they consistently win the tournament. I can't remember more than a couple years where either their men's or women's team wasn't playing on Tuesday. Win and get the fan support that comes along with that. When our girls team was kicking ass the last couple years with Dawn, half of that building was in red. It's not a surprise that when our teams are down, so it's the fan support. I hate to be the Debbie Downer here, but let's be realistic. We don't have a big enough fan base to expect a huge turnout on a year where our teams aren't expected to be all that competitive. That's not an excuse for being fair weather, because I've definitely been in the stands for some unbearable seasons across several sports, but that's where our fan base is, as a whole, right now.

You put some thought into this. I LIKE IT!!!! I can see overall attendance for the games dwindle some, but overall fairness to the teams AND fairness to the fans from all teams to get to watch the games from other than the nosebleed sections would make your proposal worthwhile. It might also aid in keeping teams in the league.

Idk If they were to move to a fully neutral site I’d bet they go to a format similar to the one the WCC uses where the top 2 seeds are protected until the end. Which puts emphasis on the regular season and doing well there which id say a solid half of the schools in our league don’t do which is evidenced by only a few schools consistently winning it.

I don't think the league would want to go that extreme. You're forfeiting a lot of revenue doing this. Having a "Final Four" located at the Denny in SF I think is as far as the Summit League would want to go in recreating the league tournament.

I'll vote for that! ... wait, I guess I don't get a vote. Good idea, though. Keeping the number of days more compact would make it more likely for fans outside of the area to travel, including the green people from up north. While I'd love for the red and blue to be more balanced, what would be even better than that would be for a more diverse mix of colors overall. I don't want to hear that it will never happen, because they aren't travelling now. I think the scenario You came up with actually lets all student athletes play in front of bigger crowds at all stages of the tournament, and promotes involvement from fans for the semifinals and finals instead of alienating them. Just because there are sold tickets for all sessions doesn't mean the athletes are playing in front of big crowds. They absolutely would be with home games. That would carry momentum for fans who would travel to see a semifinal with their team in it.

Why change now? That's just who you are. I'm anything but a fair weather fan, if that's what was implied here. I've been both a fan of and a competitor on some really underachieving Coyote teams. I know what it feels like to run out in front of an empty arena. I've also been embarrassed sitting in the stands at a home game that looked more like a road game. That's why I'll continue donating to the HP and buying my season tickets and my all-sessions at the SLT and showing up every week. I'm just a realist when it comes to the current state of Coyote Nation. We just don't have the numbers of die hards that will show up when the team isn't perceived as a good team.

The ultimate demise of the SLT in Sioux Falls won't be because of how many USD fans show up or don't show up. It will be because of creating an inflexible situation (location, schedule, sponsorship, and ticket practices). Like anything that isn't allowed to be flexible, it will break. The league gives every school outside of the Dakota schools a reason to look for a different conference. There is no reason not to rotate it ever 3rd or 4th year to a Minneapolis, KC, Omaha, etc. (Thought it would be worse for me personally)
As for dollars the tourney generates - I have 2 thoughts. If you don't think St. Thomas could generate enough sponsorship dollars to host it at Target Center or the X, you are not thinking about their access to corporate dollars.
Second, and more importantly, many of those in blue between the endlines are sponsor seats. For crying out loud - the sponsorships are for things like real estate agents and mortgage brokers (both are near broke right now), small landscaping companies, etc. Step it up Yotes fans. We need more of our business owners/executives to sign up for a sponsorship. It is surprisingly inexpensive to get those seats (thus all the small SDSU-backed businesses who are sponsors). I can connect you to the people at SL to get on the list for next year - just DM me. For those of you who have friends who are USD alumni with businesses - and there are a lot of them - send them the link and get a small package with seats. It will both keep the tourney in SF longer AND get more red in the better seats. (I'm speaking from experience here...)

Every team outside of South Dakota should be unsatisfied with this arrangement. I'm sure it was a factor in every departure we have seen over the years. Money talks though and there isn't another site that will bring in nearly as much cash.Where does the money go though? If it's kicked back to the schools that's one thing, but if it's used to pad the expense accounts and salaries of Summit officials then screw that. I have no idea. I assume the schools are sharing in the revenue, but surely the league office would too. Maybe it's not as important as I think and it is purely an attendance thing. Sioux Falls remains the only logical location in that scenario too.

Everyone is always looking elsewhere. If rotating the conference tournament is what it takes to retain Denver/UMKC/UNO/UST then it should be considered. This league always feels a domino away from collapsing.

This league always feels a domino away from collapsing. If SDSU fans travel as well as they claim, the league should look into Minneapolis, with the Semi Finals and Finals played over the weekend. The NCHC generates roughly the same ticket revenue for their Semi Finals and Finals in the TC as the SL does for the entire BB tournament. No reason the SL shouldn't be able to do the same imo. Tons of SL alumni in the Twin Cities, important city for media and recruiting, and it would potentially help to keep St. Thomas in the league longer. People will travel to the Twin Cities for a weekend tournament, but hardly anyone is going to travel to Sioux Falls for weeknight games that their teams potentially won't even play in.
