Mick saying on the live chat that letters from Piton, Reeves, and Miller will be a very welcome sight and not to expect anything from Piton today, on the fence with Eastern Kentucky.

Reeves is in. Only waiting on Miller and Piton. Miller could still happen today.
Piton will take some time.

I think there may still be room in this class for a couple late signings. Specifically, I think we could use a few more studs on defense. I would still like to see a JUCO OL, DB and DT. At this level, you can never have too many at these positions.

Class looks comparable to SDSU. Glad to see some kids from Okla. Wish the past pipeline to Tampa also had something coming through it. Now its up to the coaches to develop them.

Also don't think there are any kids from the Chicago area. We usually got one or two from Ed's old stomping grounds out of Chicago or Wisconsin.
Shows that coaches go where they have the contacts.

I wouldn't even begin to know how to compare recruiting classes, so to say SDSU and USD's classes are comparable is kind of crazy to me. I think the ranking systems and the stars are mostly BS. Many kids shoot up those charts based solely on who is recruiting them. I think you got a couple guys that will definitely be standouts in the conference four years from now. That's when you can compare the classes.

I believe if Glenn can recruit just on an even level with what Ed did I think we all end up ahead because of it. It's in the area of player development, coaching, discipline etc where I think where as a program that Yotes will surge ahead of where we were.

Well stated, coyotefan.
It wasn't the talent pool that hindered USD, the wins at Minnesota, and vs Eastern Washington proved that. It was in all the other areas where USD will need to take a step forward.

When it comes to recruiting I have to take a backseat to some that know a bit more than I do about these players. I will try my best from first glance.
Starting with the sexy positions first I think there is going to be some big time competition for carries with Jasper Sanders and Jordan Roberts hopefully pushing Sims. Roberts has a great resume but Sanders might be better equipped to adjust to the D1 level. I think between the two of them I find it hard pressed to imagine that USD won't have major ability at the position either this year or very soon thereafter. I think USD has been average at the position but not up to the standards we were getting used to with White and Logan. Hopefully we can get a little closer to what we had at the D2 level as strange as that may sound to an outsider. Obviously D1 FCS is a level up but we had professional type talent at the end of the D2 years.
When it comes to wide receiver it's almost a shame how under utilized our receivers were especially since I considered that corr of the last couple years as the most talented position on the team. I believe this coming year we will really get to see the potential of Will Powell. Hopefully with Jones, Graham and Jasper Washington (2 Jasper's on the same roster) we can keep the position very strong and maybe add some speed on top of it.
For me I think the defensive side of the ball brings the most excitement and intrigue. First of all we have a legit DC in Petrino. Hopefully along with that we will also have legit talent as well. How can we even start without thinking about the excitement of the potential of having Wiseman and Starr lining up on the same D-Line with the goal of who gets to crush the signal caller first. Add Bredl and Nagel to that and hopefully the line keeps getting better.
Linebackers haven't been all that bad at USD but I think we can probably get even better from sideline to sideline across the linebacker front. We didn't go far to find some talent from SF-Washington to get a couple. O-Ferrell and Lage bring plenty of championship experience.
The most interesting aspect of this class is all the southern DB talent. If you are to score on the Yotes you will not only have to get through South Dakota's defense to do so but you will also have to go through the state of Oklahoma well.
Will Armstead 5'10" from Broken Arrow,OK Julon Brown 6'2" from Kansas City,MO Zeke Lewis (gotta love that name) 5'9" from Midwest City, OK Ricky Reeves 5'10" from Midwest City, OK Devin Taverna 6'1" from Calsbad, CA D.J. Wakes 6'1" from Topeka, KS
Don't know much about Ryan Saeger at QB but this isn't the worst year to come in as a freshman quarterback. There is a definate opening and whoever earns the job will be the man regardless of class.
