I am calling you out right now.
Time to take down the Coyote Crazies banner and quit selling Coyote Crazies t-shirts until you have earned the right to be called Crazies. That act on Saturday was pathetic. Students fill up about half their seating and then empty out at half time.
I can't believe the students at this university are leaving it to us old farts to carry the flag. It's the old farts that are creating the gameday atmosphere by showing up early on Saturday to tailgate. It's the old farts that are cheering the Coytoes on until the very end of the game. Pretty sad really.
The Yotes might have lost this Saturday but the product on the field is much, much better than it has ever been. The players are bigger, stronger, faster, and more talented than ever. ISU is a very good team, nationally ranked, and the Yotes fought them to the end. Yes, I think we should have pulled that one out save some boneheaded plays, but overall the game was exciting and close.
No excuse for what I witnessed out of the student section on Saturday. No excuse.

Agreed, we had all the makings of a great atmosphere... and then it was half time. Those kids emptied out like someone shouted "free beer outside"!

How does it go from a packed student section three weeks ago against Colgate to having more players than student fans at the dome this week?

I was also disappointed with the student section clearing out like it did at half-time on Saturday, but I was also disappointed in the overall size of the crowd. First game ever in MVFC against the #12 team and the country should have resulted in a full house. The game day atmosphere was great as was the pregame tailgating. I think the enjoyment to be had a Coyote home football game is one of the best kept secrets in the state. I have seen numerous ads for the Bison game in Sioux Falls, but haven't seen a single ad for any home games in the Dome this year.
I am not defending the student section, but the way the first-half ended definitely sucked most of the emotion out of the student section. Also having the game on TV results definitely results in the game taking longer.

I was at the game (1,000 mile round trip) so I guess I can put my two cents in!
This is not in defense of the students but back in the days when we had an outdoor stadium (heck what was the name of that place?) we students had better seating. Okay, we had to look into the sun but we sat between the 30 yard lines. Looking at the student section now I wonder what better seating would do. Ya, I know in many places students sit in the end zone (saw that in Minneapolis and Madison) but I wish the Dome was more accomodating on the west side. You have a small student section on one end and what amounts to the band on the other. Wish there was a way to have a student section closer to midfield. Also, I wish the band - what a great band - sat closer to the students.
Come to think of it, the "Coyote Crazies" banner should be in the band section. I loved them!!
Got it: Inman Stadium. Never did remember who Inman was, though.

The goal, I believe, is to have seating on the west side that is the same as it is on the east. That's how the UNI Dome is decked out and it's crazy full on game day!

How does it go from a packed student section three weeks ago against Colgate to having more players than student fans at the dome this week? Same thing happened at SDSU early in the transition. I'd say the students' attitude changed towards football after the 2007 season--Since then the student section has always been full, of course if the team isn't playing well its half-empty by the end of the game. Hang in there Yoties, It gets better.

Like or hate Meierkort clearly most hate but the guy won 40 of 45 games at home and the student section has always been garbage leaving at half ect. I keep hearing about Bringing in the number 12 team in the country and bein disappointed.. We beat the number 1 team in fcs and defending nat. Champ last year and the student section was bad then. We need the new students to change the culture

Did anyone else catch the Sayler interview during the pre-game show on the radio? He spoke very plainly about trying to figure out what can be done to keep students at the game longer. He said he's spoken with the student government and is trying to conduct surveys in the Volante. Even if he doesn't like the answer he said he wants an answer so he can try to fix it. The man is keenly aware of the situation! I saw on the scoreboard near halftime a huge graphics that said "Hey Students! Where are you going?! The game's not over!" Somehow I hope they become fans too and stick around.

The most obvious answer is to sell beer. There are college kids. Where ever there is beer, there will be college kids.

Student attendance at FCS schools is generally not that great. I'm afraid that the excitement is at the FBS schools. Everyone likes the big time. FCS is not big time.

I think that the true sign of a great program, at least attendance wise, is when you get huge amounts of people going to the games that never attended the school.

Beer is always the best answer, and getting sh*t face drunk really helps the image of USD. Might even end in a student riot like we had at SDSU twenty years ago. Burning and pilaging of the entire campus.
