If the Coyotes pull off the upset next Saturday, do anyone's opinions on this subject change? I give the Jacks a 95% chance to win the game. There is just way too much for the Yotes to overcome on the field for the hype to make a difference. If anything the extra hype will lead to a bigger blowout. As far as USD fans, why are we always in defensive mode when it comes to explaining another failure and always falling way behind when it comes to bragging rights. SDSU will win the corn bowl 9 out of every 10 years unless the culture around USD changes from just being happy to compete to demanding wins. Go back to your board with nobody on it.

I agree with Cousin Eddie, go back to your board and talk to yourself.

I agree with Cousin Eddie, go back to your board and talk to yourself. If I go back than you can lose in peace as I am sure that is what you would like. No sense ruffling a few feathers especially during a season such as this. Where is the outrage from the fans. A 1-10 season is unfolding and way too many people are taking it in stride and finding reasons to excuse it rather than not accept it. What kind of a fan are we all individually. A fan that is willing to just excuse this season or one that won't accept it. I am the latter and I won't stay quiet about it. I just have one question. If NOW is not the time to expect winning NOW, exactly what date in the future can we expect to start winning NOW. Can we at least set a date. Kind of like the financial cliff. I would like to make an appointment. A date where people stop going to games until a sense of accountability starts to happen. When I don't perform at work for a whole year I get fired. If you stopped performing well at work, how long would you have your job? Who else wants to quit being an Awww schuckkser During a 1-10 season I don't want to go to a message board and be told to have patience as everything will be ok. I want to go to a board to read other people's rants as well. USD fans are too good of losers, maybe we should grow a little more of a sharp edge to us soon.

This debacle started last year when Ed was fired. I have no intention of getting into a debate with a certain poster on here that has all the answers, but it's suffice to say 2012 was a fricking disaster. Just step back one step and compare the last two years. While it is true that Ed had troupe winning on the road, Ed did win at home. We played a lot harder last year as a team than at any point this year. Many of the coaches we have this year were on Ed's staff, so that isn't an excuse. It comes down to one of two things, it really is that simple. #1.). Ed was a better coach than what many posters on here thought. Or #2.) the talent pool has gone backwards, at which point you can blame Ed and his recruits. In reading some posts tonight, one poster thought that we were on par with most of the MVC teams, with the exception of one position. Although he was a gentlemen and didn't name that position, I think it's safe to say its the quarterback position. That assessment may, or may not be correct, but for arguments sake, let's say it is valid. Then what do we have? We have an inferior coach. Pure and simple. Someone inferior in talent to Ed. If we had the talent across the board, with the exception of one position, might then it not be a safe bet to try someone else at that questionable position? That happened once as far as I can remember, and that came to be at Indiana State. What was the result? We had a young man lead his team up and down the field in the 4th quarter against a 2nd team defense, but nonetheless, he moved the troops. And they played with a heightened awareness. Say what you want about Ed, he won. He handled the transition like a stratavarious. We had talent year in and year out that could play. Yes, I am we'll aware we had trouble on the road, but you know what...WE AT LEAST WON AT HOME. Now comes Joe Glenn. Joe Glenn is the ultimate Coyote. There is no ones that bleeds more Coyote blood than joe Glenn. His resume suggests he can take this program to the next level, and he may if given enough time. But there is one thing Joe can't argue, and that he is on the wrong side of the hands of time. Is it impossible? No. Ask Bill Snyder, it can be done. However, is it likely? I don't think so and here's why. To the older Coyote fans, he is old school. A man of integrity and discipline. We like that, we are comfortable with that. But the real question in my mind that needs to be answered is can the student athletes relate to that? Does he resonate with his players? I don't think, and yet I do think it is any fault of his. It is a reflection of society today. Kids want to play for coaches they can relate to, and feel are dynamic. Joe is dynamic alright, but I don't think kids can relate to him. They did relate to Ed, and to the naked eye, it appears to me that they did play harder for Ed than they do Joe. Just a fact. If you were at the game today, did anyone pay much attention to our sideline? We were flat. Uninspired. To me, that is an indication Coach Joe lost this team several weeks ago. I have never seen such an uninspired team as I'd did today. They looked like they cold give 2 craps whether they were there or not. To me, that is what is unacceptable. Next year at this time, regardless of the record or progress made or not made, if we are not in the playoffs, it is a given we will have one poster for sure calling for the head coaches head. You see, in his mind, he is so tough that one can never accept losing...ever. If so, you are weak. Also, you don't know squat about anything like he does. I think there is talent there, but where Ed missed the most was on the offensive and defensive line. I agree, the kids can relate to Ed more....but there is a reason why. They saw him at the bar when they would go out and they knew whatever trouble they would get it..it would get swept under the rug, honestly. If the players cannot relate to Glenn, then we need more players that Glenn recruits because I honestly don't trust a lot of the players Ed recruited. I don't really want to dive deeper into that, honestly. Ed did some good for the program but he did wear out his welcome. Let's hope Glenn can bring in some quality recruits and start turning this around. I will give Glenn one more year easily, but if the team looks like this, it would be good to pull the plug and look at someone like the head coach at Henderson State and if Kalen can actually get that offense at SIU working, maybe him. Unfortunately for him, there are drug tests in the NCAA...the NAIA is pretty liberal with that. But right now I saw give Glenn another year and let's see the progress that is made first. Hey, Gene Chizik will be out there at least!!!!! ..... crap....

#1.) I agree with you n the fact the lines are bare minimum at best. And those two areas of a team have a lot I say in overall performance and winning vs losing. I also am aware of Ed's antics and how they played out with a lot of people, you being one of them. And truthfully I understand that argument. We probably will never agree on whether hat should have cost him his job or not. Anyone can build an argument either way, so to be honest it's a mute point.
You made reference to a lot of problems being swept under the rug and that's probably also true. But in fairness, I know of at least 4 situations where he cleaned out the lockers of kids that weren't doing what the academic advisor asked them to do. After a couple of attempts to get the kids on the right track and them ignoring, Ed simply booted their butts off the team. So there are some good things.
Ed was polarizing, I understand that. And one certain poster on here claims my closeness to coaches clouds my judgement. That I really don't care about winning and mediocracy is all I care about. That person has no clue how competitive I am, and how I hate to lose. But it was this individual who called for Ed's head last year at this time because in his opinion we were mediocre. I say to you, and this fan board, there isn't a soul that post here that understands it less than him.
How many times do I have to read it now rests with Sayler. He wants to hire coaches from D-2, or coordinators from lousy D-1 offenses to be our coach. In fact, HE DEMANDS IT. Give me a break. He also wants the arena to be built, and he cries his ass off if he doesn't get good seats although by his own admission, he doesn't donate. Talk about living in la la land. Amazing.
Lastly, my two posts don't reflect how I feel about Coach Glenn. As I stated before, he is a class act. He is the ultimate Coyote. I want him to succeed. But you can't ignore the facts. Think about how many games we have been in and coaching decisions made at that point in time hat cost us the games. I can think of 5. Then when you add in the fact our O line is not good enough to establish the run, why didn't the Earl kid get a shot of taking our offense a little more vertical? What on gods green earth did we have to lose? He payed in one game and we moved the ball methodically down the field. So at the end of the day, as much as I love joe, it comes down to coaching decisions.
I won't throw him or any coach under the bus, ever. We have to ride this pony now, we have no choice. And not to argue, but you have to give Glenn at least 3-4 years to get his players on the roster. You can't release him next year regardless of pace of progress or you will never get a quality head coach again knowing if they don't win year 1 or 2, they are toast. This plays out in my mind till 15 anyway.
I said it at the time he was hired. As safe a pick Glenn was, it was a high risk hire. We need to back these guys with all the ammo we have, but my only point in this post and my earlier one is that Meierkort did USD a lot of good, and I truly believe he was a better coach than given credit for. No more Ed references from me, that is history. I just wanted to point out to a certain poster on here, when he puffed his chest out a year ago and said we were on our way to TITLETOWN he really has little clue how all of this comes together.
In closing, someone that's close to Sayler needs to have him invite my favorite poster to sit in the interview he should have with Coach Glenn and honestly ask if his heart is in this. Because good lord knows he knows what he is talking about.

A few thoughts in regards to YFE's post.
Ed was talented and brought athletes to Vermillion. We all saw it. It was exciting to see the offensive firepower and big OL's go to work. But who were they successful against?
What was his record against SDSU? NDSU? UNI? (All former NCC members other USD coaches had to face and now do). Ed came to his leadership role during a period of time that the NCC was neutered.
UNI came to Vermillion and handily beat USD two years ago and USD scored late to make it seem close. Ed also lost twice to them on the road. One time I think it was 66-7.
This years game could have gone either way. Granted - UNI is not the dominant team they were a few years back but keep in mind that this year that same team beat SDSU handily, played NDSU, Wisconsin, and Iowa all very tough. They managed to trounce Western Illinois 40-0.
Consider UND? What was Ed's record against them?
Illinois State last year was a physical beating.
Ed rallied the team to beat EWU last year (I believe his greatest win at home) and the Gophers two years ago (huge upset obviously - great win) IMO USD won both of those games because EWU an UM did not bring a physical approach to the game.
EWU was a finesse team and UM had the big guys but never stuck with the power running game. USD had trouble stopping it when they ran it, but UM got impatient and started slinging the ball - throwing incompletions.
The MVFC has teams that seem to commit to running the ball until you stop them. Very physical approaches to the game. Defensively they have all been very stout and physical.
Again - how did Ed do against these types of teams? I think his long term record against UND is an indication. He had three games against UNI. He went to Fargo and got a taste of the Bison. Add those up and I think it tells you how he would do.
As far as the sidelines - UNI's sidelines were not exactly doing cartwheels either. The play on the field yesterday was physical and showed as great an effort as I have seen this year. These kids are human and being 1-8 heading into UNI has to wear on them. As USD alumni I know it has been embarrassing for all of us. Imagine how the players must feel.
As far as Glenn's age and ability to connect with young players: Nick Saban is 61 - Frank Solich is older than Glenn. You brought up Bill Snyder who is 9 years older than Glenn. Glenn knows how to sell - we will see a good class of recruits that will fit what we need to compete in the MVFC.
Glenn was handed a physically and mentally soft team. There were many discipline issues to deal with. He has gotten rid of some very talented players (detailed in other posts.). Looks like there are a few Glenn still needs to run off as well. Even before this season there were a few arrests with players still on the roster now - see isn't it nice the Argus doesn't cover USD...... Certainly you have heard some of the rumors of bad things that happened with players under Ed's watch in Vermillion - some pretty shocking actually, but not worth posting. Came to a head with a handful of USD players damaging the Alerus Center locker room while Ed was in there watching.
Ed brought excitement and sound bytes. - wins against weaker opponents mostly at home - losses against physical - well coached opponents home or away.
Glenn is the guy to do this right. There was a lot of work to do and I feel fortunate to have his leadership.

Ed did one good things. Had more big wins than you give credit for, but Ed's antics cost him. I said I like Joe Glenn a lot, and I do. I really hope he rights the ship, because if he doesn't, we won't be relevant for at least 6-7 years.

I dislike coyotefan's posts 95% of the time! Gee I guess that is because he is negative 95% of the time! The truth is coyotefan you're like Jerry Jones of the Cowboys--you think you know it all and want to be the head coach!! I agree go back to your own board!
Coach Glenn does deserve more time plain and simple. It is very rare if any new CEO or coach turns things around in 1 yr. Gee Obama gets 4 more yrs?!?! Recruiting is key and the Yotes are not that far away from winning a lot of games!! GO YOTES!!!!

I still say there must be a reason why Ed could only get a high school coaching job. There has to be something going on that most people don't know about.

I think its a little late to explore the reasons for his discharge. It could be a number of things. As a Jack fan and a fellow alum of Ed, its not a big deal. Ed did get his ME from SDSU.

Our record sucks, but for crying out loud coyote fan you act like we lose every game by 30. We lost 5 of 7 conference games by 7 or less points. Penalties and some bonehead plays are costing us those games. What happened to the day when a player had accountability for a stupid penalty - like having to get up at 5am and run, run and run some more. Or is that one of those old school tactics that "kids these days" don't relate to.

Boom goes the usdlaw dynamite! Love it when my old room-mate goes old school and breaks out the run, run and run some more line. Classic and I couldn't agree with you more. Being a college athlete is not a right, it's a privilege and playing on the field, court, track, pool, whatever... isn't for the privileged, it's for those who earn it. Joe gets that and most of us do as well. He's going to play the kids that earn it and he sure certainly isn't going to come here seeking advice for what he should do next weekend or any Saturday for that matter from us. The guy knows his craft. He will get the ship righted and I think he will do so quicker than most people think. Don't forget, coaching is not just about teaching kids how to win, but it's about teaching kids how to carry themselves when life doesn't go the way you want it. I can't think of a better man to impart any of that to a group of student athletes than Joe Glenn. Next Saturday we have a chance to see whether this team has been listening to what he has had to say.
