The season is now in the books. The Yotes had some close games and some blowouts but the bottom line is 1-10 overall & 0-8 in the Valley.
I don't want this to turn into a shoving match where shots are taken at each other but lets have some candid and honest conversation.
Lets face it if the coach hired at the beginning of this year was a dark sillouette who wasn't going to be revealed until after this season would you as a Coyote fan choose to keep the 1-10 first year coach behind curtain #1 or would you go on to the next coach behind curtain #2 to see what he could do. I don't think hardly anyone would choose to keep curtain #1.
No one would have imagined the coach behind curtain #1 could have been Joe Glenn but the facts are the facts and now the Coyote Nation has to decide if we want to stand pat. It's basically going to be one mans choice in Sayler but people can still choose to be heard.
I will post more a bit later but what does everyone think of this season and regardless of your leaning put it out there what you would like to see change for next year and for that matter what you would like to see stay the same. The fans and alumni's opinion does matter alot to the admin so don't think you won't be heard if you post something on here. Like I said lets keep this civil but also keep this honest.

I'm glad to see you are taking a leadership role on this board Mr. CF. That is exactly where you should be.
Thanks for being Coyote Fan!

Most people think it is crazy to even consider getting rid of a coach after one season. Those people have every right to say that and often times I consider myself a part of that group. Even if you are totally in the keep Glenn camp with no questions. My question, should alot of be pressure be applied and should we consider himself on the hot seat?
I am assuming that Glenn will stay on but just by the fact that Glenn will be in his second year doesn't naturally mean that things will just automatically get better. Steps will need to be taken towards the common goal. I think some significant changes need to happen to accomplish that. What those changes are can be up to debate but wouldn't everyone at least agree with the fact that some things will have to change.

This was not much of a senior class talent wise. We will miss Powell, Sims, Eaton, Giese, Ross, and Cole Z. This is a very young team, lets hope they improve dramatically over the next year . We have 48 freshman, redshirt freshman, and sophomores on the roster. And currently 22 juniors.

Honestly, I am not sure that Sayler has enough of an athletic background to judge Glenn or provide him any guidance. That situation can be a disadvantage I would think since football is the most vital part of a program since it sets the tone for the rest of the year.

The season is mercifully over. It will take more than one year to recover and hopefully rebuild a Coyote football program we can take pride in. Two or three wins would have provided some hope. Didn't happen. Now it's time to outwork and outsmart the competition. I'll always be a Coyote fan but it's rational to want some pride, too. Just like I have pride in USD as an academic institution. This challenge must be met.
No scholarly review of statistics is necessary. In my opinion this year's program graded as an "F" across the board. I'm not out to demean anyone, it just comes across to me as a no excuses result. What then can be done about it? Thankfully, a fan board offers the opportunity to criticize but also offer some constructive ideas.
In typical knee jerk, fashion from afar I offer this in review:
1) Coaching - I prefer to think of this as a learning experience. I hope whomever survives to coach next year continues to learn in the offseason. It may be reasonable that some coaches will be gone (?). 2) Style - I'll state this again. We need a Power Running Game. Okay I did remember some stats about this. They're not good! Now, with our best receiver gone we will have no better offense next year unless we do something different and that is to run the ball effectively. 3) Line play - I still say we need a smaller, more athletic o-line that can open some holes and block on the perimeter. 4) QB - Open for grabs I hope. 5) Defense - Stop the run. Smaller, faster linebackers are a premium as very good DTs are an unexpected bonus. 6) Recruiting - Get a large class recruited if possible. The good will be sorted from the bad and ugly down the line. I know this is a mantra - think speed/quickness first. Those attributes can't be taught. 7) Head coach - I'd say to the coach to get out now if he has any doubts. I don't believe Joe will do that and he shouldn't. Soul searching shouldn't even be an issue here. Instead, thoroughly analyze each and every problem the team had this year and carefully consider all options for improvement. Some strategy for confidence building is necessary.
Time to stop the blather. I think others should/subtract or criticize this post. Again, not an expert here but an opportunity to vent and offer some suggestions. Again "Outwork" and "Outsmart" the competition. It can be done, It's just who can do it.

I am not up for getting rid of the coach. He was left with a roster that I did not think would win much more than 2 games at best. The offensive line was horrible, the quarterbacks were horrible, the defensive line was mediocre at best.
This was a complete rebuilding project at so many positions that I have no idea what was expected out of this year. The Coyotes were lucky to beat a playoff team, which I thought was a winnable game, but if you told me at the beginning of the season that Colgate was a playoff team, i would have put it down for an easy loss.
I figured it was a 1-10 or 2-9 season basically because I did not think Glenn was left with much to work with. Have to give him at least one full recruiting class and see if this team can improve next year. With so much youth, it's going to be hard. I believe next year will tell us more about Glenn and what coaches he keeps.

Welcome to the Valley USD. Just about sums it up.
Give Glenn a couple of years to get the players for his 'system'. Now what is that system?
Just look north USD.....recruit for the defense. Take a look at SDSU and NDSU. It starts with the defense. If USD is going to continue with the 3-4 then Glenn better recruit for it; meaning getting a very good nose -peg and quick, athletic DEs. LBers need to be fast and have the ability to stop the run and pass.
Glenn definitely has his work cut out for him and his staff. The Valley is tough every week.

Welcome to the Valley, 3 teams we had no chance to defeat, NDSU, Indiana State, and unfortunately SDSU, and 5 teams that we did. We need to get bigger, better on the O line and D line, a big powerful RB, and replace Sr LBs. Pick an offensive style, running QB or pocket passer, and build, recruit accordingly. It's silly to bring in caliber of coach as Glenn, and not give 3 years to recruit, build his program, and I don't think it will take 3 years.

Just to add on, OL and DL may be youth we have just getting better. I'm not smart enough to say who will develop, or who won't going forward...

Talked to more than a few people yesterday in Brookings who, like me and others on this board, were again questioning the offensive play calling on 3rd and long. What the hell are we doing throwing a 3 yard pass time and again across the field to a guy about to get lit up? Time again I have defended our team, coaching staff and our offensive coordinator, but when we need 5, 6, 7 or more yards, you have to call a play designed to get the yards you need and not hope that a huge play is made after the catch. If I was Glenn, I would move Wes to QB coach and be looking for a new OC starting yesterday. Experiment over.

As I said before I am ok with Glenn staying as long as other things are done aside from just saying things will be better. Wes has had his chance and has not gotten the job done.

A comparison I would make to USDs season this year is Washington State.
They are 2-9 and 0-8 in the PAC 12 right now heading into their last game against in state rival Washington. Their two wins have come against Eastern Washington by 4 points and UNLV (2-10 currently) by 8 points.
Washington State hired Mike Leach the same time USD hired Glenn.
We all know Glenn's resume - the three knocks against him that I have heard and think have some validity are: 1. He was retired when we hired him - so he was mentally out of the game. 2. Winning at UNC and Montana is a hell of a lot easier than building a winner at USD. He wasn't able to get it done at Wyoming. 3. At USD he will have a younger less experienced staff than what he has been used to over his recent career.
Mike Leach has been a part of several program turn arounds and rebuilds - started out building a Jr College program in Iowa with Hal Mumme, went to Valdosta State and built a powerhouse, (he was also a finalist for the USD job in 1991 when Creehan was hired) went to Kentucky as OC and made them highly competitive while there, won a National Championship at Oklahoma as OC under Stoops, and then most recently turned a completely irrelevant Texas Tech team to a National contender.
Now at Washington State in year one he is headed for 10 losses just like Glenn at USD. I believe both men are excellent coaches that have real track records of success and have forgotten more about football than I have ever known.
If Glenn can look in the mirror and can honestly say he is up to the challenge and here to see this through - I believe he can and will get it done. We will get to see. I believe USD can have a winning season next year (which compared to this year would be a huge improvement).
