That far out they have several years to grow. Case in point: Sioux City North's Melina Snoozy. We were her first offer, a year ago when she was a 5-9 Guard in 8th grade. Now she is listed by Prep Girl Hoops as a 5-11 Small Forward, and the #1 player in the SD class. She now holds offers from SDSU and Colorado State, and is still a freshman. Altenburg is the #2 player in the SD class, and holds offers from USD, SDSU, Creighton, and Colorado State. 5-7 isn't that short for a point guard, and she could easily grow too. Plus sounds like she is a USD legacy player. Burckhard is the #3 player in the SD class, and we are her first offer. She is already 6-1 with room to grow. SDSU legacy Moore is from a good SD BB family. I think these are exactly the type of players we should be going after, and offering early. Well done! Who do they have as the #1 ranked SD player in the class of 2027?

UND really took it to NDSU today, that really takes a little luster off our victory. NDSU might not be that great this year.

Leyland has made some clutch kicks this year. With the way our defense was looking in the second half I was really doubting the decision to punt but I guess it worked out. That would have been a crushing defeat after being up by 21 points.

Q: I understand the athlete you brought, Max, was a walk on?CP: "And he's from Sioux Falls, too. I keep telling people, when you have a South Dakota kid... it's different. This Coyote's paw is different for those kids.... When he first came in to practice, we saw him deferring to other guys to play... I walked up to him and asked 'Are you on our team? then you need to get into the drill' 'You need to compete every day if you want a chance to play'... and he said 'I have a chance to play?'... and I said, "Yeah, Max! I mean, I don't know yet"... and he just took that and ran with it. He was the first one in the drill every day... Max is the perfect GATA guy. He's setting an example for all our new guys every day.... He might not be our leading scorer, but he's the MVP on our team.... When you're bringing in 9 new guys, you need that... Max won't let us have a bad practice. I love Max. I really wish we could have found a scholarship for him. Hopefully he's got an academic scholarship or something. I hate to think our team MVP is just having to pay for school himself.

I was just looking at the seat map for ticket purchase, and trying to estimate the number or percent sold. I don't know how many will be in the band/student section, so I assumed 1/2 full there. Came up with 5,250 to 5,500 (57% to 60% full). I'll guess that there is a certain number of walk-ups, too. home games so far: St Thomas.....6126 (67%) Lamar...........5618 (62%) Murray State. 7907 (87%) I hope I'm wrong and we sell the thing out, but I'm thinking we will be closer to the St Thomas game than the Murray State game? We were 87% full for the Murray St game? I would never have guessed that. I was expecting a much bigger crowd than what I saw.

Plus guys don't transfer to walk-on. I'm sure he'll be on scholarship. To Lynn's point, guys averaging 7 points and 3 rebounds at the D2 level often don't get D1 scholarships. I'm much more intrigued by today's signing. Hopefully both guys will be contributors.

Scott's older brother was All-Pac 12 at Colorado. He can definitely help the Yotes. Always struck me as a real grounded kid who understood he could go be a pretty anonymous D-I contributor or go somewhere and be a D-II legend. Interesting. I have not watched him play. With his success at the D2 level, I would think he could at least be a solid contributor. Would add some much needed experience. Kid has played a lot of ball and looks to be physically mature for sure. I would have to think Scott will be going somewhere bigger than the Summit League. He's really good. I would be very excited if USD got him to come here, but I can't imagine that will happen.

You have the theory a little wrong. She wasn't intentionally recruiting down to stick it to USD, she just wasn't recruiting as hard as she had because she knew she would be leaving after the big 3 graduated. That's the theory that was out there. Dawn knew we would be really good last year and knew she would have opportunities so she wasn't exactly motivated to pound that recruiting trail and it showed. Then she left and actively recruited the two starters that we had coming back. Even though those may be the facts I have no ill will towards dawn. She did great things while at usd and she left for a job that could pay her a lot more. As others have mentioned it's not her job to help USD continue future success. It would have been great if she did, but not really her job. If I knew I was probably leaving a place I too would probably have a hard time really trying to talk kids into coming to play at the place I was leaving. I mean...come on. So if the theory was that she was going to leave after the three seniors left, was that plan in place for 2021 or did she amend that plan when Covid gave them another year (and for Hannah that wasn't certain until the summer of 2021 when she decided to play another year at USD and have an ankle surgery/procedure)? So the "not recruiting as hard" part, that was after the Larkins/Duffney/Carson class was recruited? Larkins is on pace to be a top-10 player at USD and while Duffney has a ways to go defensively, she showed excellent athleticism and scoring ability after not playing in games for 2 years. So did that begin with the Demers/Bergstrom class? Demers was offered by UND, NDSU, and SDSU. All state universities that were closer to her home. Bergstrom seems well-regarded. Kayla certainly implied she was going to play quite a bit this season before her injury. Then it must've begun with the 2023 class...you know, the one we haven't seen yet. Klosterbuer seems very excited to play at USD (accepted the offer after 5 days) but I would guess the culture the program (and Dawn) established had something to do with that. Broughton was a big get in recruiting, though we'll obviously have to see how she will recover after tearing both ACL's. The broader point here is that for WBB, recruiting is so far out into the future. If you want to criticize 2023 or that SDSU has five SD verbals for 2024, fine. But that had nothing to do with last year. And the recruiting classes before that don't back up that theory. Also, this "theory" seems to not take into account that if I remember correctly a year ago, by the time the Yotes were done, WVU was the only P5 job still open. What would have happened if WVU hadn't been interested in Dawn? It takes two to tango. She probably would have stayed for last year. Sorry for the snark, I'm in a bit of a mood this morning. 🙂 You're absolutely right about recruiting being done far in the future for division 1. So if Dawn really was giving lack of effort it would not probably show up this year or maybe even next year. It would be the class of 2024. You know the class that we got our ass kicked on for every in-state recruit against South Dakota state. I know some families that have girls on that attack team and when I asked why none of them were going to USD they all said it was because usd was showing very little interest, so take that for what it's worth. Or maybe Dawn's recruiting efforts just happened to really start to fall short right at the height of our success. And maybe those families just pretended USD wasn't showing a lot of interest when really they were. Either way I'm just real thankful for the success dawn had while she was here. Hope she does well at Minnesota.

She most certainly deserves recognition. No one’s faulting her for moving up the ladder after having the success she had. You can respect what she gave us and also be salty with what she left us. What she left us? There was a fair bit a talent in street clothes all year if my old man memory serves me correctly.  Dawn didn't get them hurt. The theory I supposed to believe is that Dawn knew she was leaving some time way before the end of last year and recruited down to really stick it to us. Keep in mind in wbb they are on these kids way before their senior year, so she must have been plotting for some time.  I'm gonna take a pass on buying that...at all. And to state the obvious again if someone offered me a job with a 20%+ raise today, I'll be cashing their checks in two weeks. It's just how the world works.  You have the theory a little wrong. She wasn't intentionally recruiting down to stick it to USD, she just wasn't recruiting as hard as she had because she knew she would be leaving after the big 3 graduated. Unfortunately, I don't see a scenario where we win this one. It's pretty unlikely that we win this game, but I still like the men's chances better than the women's.

I haven't seen anything either. I heard he was out of the hospital, but have no idea when he would return. I would assume the brain bleed is of more concern than the broken ribs and arm, but I have no idea the extent of it. It does seem kind of weird that we haven't heard more about it, unless I missed it as well. This is more than I have heard anywhere. Where did you hear this? From people that know the family I guess. I didn't realize none of that had been reported, maybe I shouldn't have said it. I thought his injuries were out there, I've heard several people mention them. But looking back thru the thread I don't really see it mentioned here.

This would be a good win if we can beat them. They are a good team. They beat #21 Oregon 69-56, lost on a 3 at the buzzer to #24 San Diego St. I'm also looking forward to seeing the kid from Tea play, Justin Hohn. Being that he is out in California I haven't heard much from him since he graduated from Tea (played with Noah Friedel). I thought he was really good in high school (very athletic) as far as I know USD and SDSU didn't offer him. It doesn't appear he starts, but I think he plays quite a bit.

Have they released any more information on his injuries? I have to imagine they are fairly serious if they air lifted him to Sioux Falls (but maybe the air lifted part is just rumor, being in Sioux Falls obviously isn't rumor). Really hope everything is alright and he's able to make a full recovery this year. Obviously Coach Peterson wasn't hoping to kick off conference season in the hospital.
