Good post nccyote. I think that I am around your same age, and I understand your point. I guess what I’m trying to get at is if we are one of the oldest rivalries in the country, how do you overlook that no matter each teams records? Would an Ohio State fan say that Michigan State is a bigger rival than Michigan because they haven’t been as good in recent years? I very highly doubt that. I can’t wait until we are back and put a 5 year winning streak on the bunnies in football. I know it won’t matter to me, I will always despair them more than any other team. Maybe that’s because I’m loyal. Maybe JackJD doesn’t hate the yotes, because after all he had to get his real degree down south. But why would I understand a SDST fans logic? After all, they went to the cow college up nort. Ohio State and Michigan never took a long break either. It will get back to way things used to be, but it will take some more time and definitely some coyote wins. No better time to start than NOW!

After experiencing the last 3 State-U games in the NCC, and playing in the final 2, I can tell you at that time there was no bigger game for either team. Since SDSU made the transition, I can see how the rivalry has dwindled. You "hate" the team that you play most often and with the most on the line. In my last 2 years, UND took over that role. NDSU obviously has taken that role for the Jacks. As soon as the stakes raise a little between these two teams, when the U wins a few, the rivalry will definitely be renewed between both sides. Its hard to say as a former player, but we are just another team right now to SDSU. None of the players on either side have any connection to the good ole days of the rivalry unless they experienced it through family members or something. Cant't be mad at State right now if the game doesn't mean as much to them. It is still the most important game for us though, this staff has made that abundantly clear from the moment Joe got here.

Biggest difference I have seen between the Yotes, and the top tier MVFC teams like NDSU, Illinois St, SDSU is in the backfield & trenches. The U has not shown the toughness up front, offensively or defensively, these past few years as it has in the past when we have been successful. The lack of a game changer in the backfield is another glaring flaw with this team. Look at the top of this league, and everyone of those teams is very strong up front, on both sides of the LOS, and has a difference maker at RB. Until we get tougher on the line of scrimmage, it will be very hard to climb into the upper half of this league. I hate to say it, but State has a pretty good model for success that the Yotes can follow. Very good on both lines, Good RB, QB who is not overly dynamic but doesn't turn the ball over, and solid on the outside skill positions. I feel like the U is swinging and missing on too many projects up front and spending all of their money on outside skill players. Invest in the foundation and you will reap the benefits.

First time poster, excited for the State-U rivalry week. Hoping the U can count on the "rivalry game" scenario to stay in this one. Otherwise, from what I have seen from both teams this year, this one shouldn't be close. I agree that we already know how "good" both of these teams are this year...its going to take a tremendous performance from our yotes and an off day from the jacks for us to come away with a win. Just being realistic. Hopeful...but realistic.
