I haven't seen so much of the classless SDSU folks until I just saw on twitter the SDSU line coach touting his QB as #therealMVP. His theory is that TC has more TD's in conference play...25 to Streveler's 20. I'm all for coaches standing up for their players but to go on social media and make that statement is truly mindboggling. You want to do that behind the scene, AMEN I'm all for it. But for a coach to go on social media is in my opinion completely and totally classless. You don't see NDSU or WIU or any other school out there acting like that. Coach Eck act like an adult and leave the social media bashing to the fans. You should be ashamed of yourself.

As a senior as an all-state QB at Lewis Central HS in Council Bluffs, IA, Simmons passed for over 2000 yds with a 57% completion percentage and had 25 TDs vs 5 Ints plus rushed for over 1000 yds. I'll take those numbers any day! Also participated in 4 sports and had a 3.9 GPA! Just to be a tool here are Streveler's sr yr stats.....
Pass 2662 yrds 26 TD's / 4 Int 68.8% completion % Rushed 1276 yrds 22 td's
All-State abnd Academic All-State selection in IL - played in one of the states top conferences Graduated in 3.5 yrs.
Add in his jr season Strev accounted for 91 total TD's in his HS career.
Still not sure how MN gave up on him.

I said that on another site. Ehh, I embellished it a bit. That's just...gamesmanship. Right? I gotcha! No harm no foul. We are all in this together. I think we all agree we are sitting pretty nicely at the QB spot. Go Yotes!

Yote53 - from your comments throughout the season it's clear you are big Simmons fan and there is no reason to not be a Simmons fan. He has a cannon of an arm and a ton of talent and should probably break some of the records Strev set this year. However your comments about him only getting second string reps are not true. I know for a fact that Simmons get about as many first string reps as Streveler does. This coaching staff is not stupid. They know that with the way Strev plays he is going to need a breather, thus Simmons get a lot of first string reps. Simmons' challenge is going to be the mental aspect of the game. He is going to have to work hard at getting himself up to speed. His cannon arm will cover a lot of sins but wont cure everything. The other QB's on the roster are going to have to rally impress this staff if they hope to unseat Austin as the starter next year.
Reread my statement. I didn't say he was only getting second string reps. I said he was probably getting a majority of his reps with the second string. I'm sure he did get some first string reps in practice but I think your crazy if you think that exceeded 50%. Not trying to argue with you but Yote 53 said on the AGS site... "Our backup QB played one game this year. Came in emergency duty during the first series against Southern Illinois. Without taking #1 reps all week and having to play in a game he did not expect to play in he only led the team to a 49-0 win." Unless there is another Yote 53 out there, I'm pretty sure that was you. Look, I've been around the team enough to know that they have confidence in Simmons and if he doesn't break some of Strev's records I'll be surprised. His arm talent has been compared to some of the top guys in the NFL. He's elite for sure. Having a backup as talented as Austin is a great problem to have.

If there is another QB on the roster capable of beating out Simmons then I am very impressed with what we have recruited at that position. I think Simmons is pretty dang good. The kid only came off the bench after Strev was injured the first series of the SIU game and won. Keep in mind he was probably getting majority second string reps throughout the week and still led the team to a 49-0 victory, this coming off a road loss to ISUr and the distractions of the player suspensions. I would say he is a pretty capable QB.. Yote53 - from your comments throughout the season it's clear you are big Simmons fan and there is no reason to not be a Simmons fan. Nicholls State will not be an easy opponent as some suggest. They will be a high quality team with great athletes. To take them lightly, would be a serious mistake. I know that our coaching staff certainly will not be doing so and I hope that our players give them the respect they deserve as well. With the way this team has approached the entire season do we really think the players are going to overlook Nichols State? We were one of the last 2 in and I think that gives them a chip on their shoulder. There is no way we take this game lightly and you can take that to the bank. My only concern is the health of the team.

Really looked like the team quit playing today. Streveler tried but the supporting cast just wasn't there. Too bad. Going to affect our playoff chances. Not good. Sometimes it seems like a game gets away. It was a dogfight and a couple big plays from scrimmage late pushed the spread far beyond what the statistics indicated. I don’t think they quit, too good and too well coached for that, I just think it slipped away and got out of hand. That one is in the past. The Jacks are a lot better football team than that score indicates. Time to gat ready for the “all-The-marbles” game with the Jacks. I thought the big game was Fargo, but the game next week is the season. It’s all on the line and it’s at home! See Neilson's comments after the game. Not so sure you'll have the same opinion.

I watched most of the second half yesterday and i personally felt like USD would have been better with Simmons UNI just didn't have to worry about Streveler beating them with his legs which when he is right makes him such a treat that's just my personal opinion. Streveler did a good job running the offense. Putting simmons in would of not helped. Streveler did not cost USD the game the fumbles did period!!! It hapoens. As far as I can remember the end zone int did not cost the team any points the other way but the fumble did. As for the pick 6 he was trying to make something happen. If you noticed the d end on the read side stayed home almost ever play. #7 was swapping sides to rush the qb. So as for him running the ball it was out the window. UNI did enough to keep it close and took advantage of the mistakes. Great reply! I really don't think many of you have a solid grasp of how much latitude the qb has in running this offense. While everyone agrees Simmons has an absolute cannon of an arm and can make throws a lot of D-1 qbs can't make, at this point he is nowhere near as mentally prepared to take over this offense. It's just not that easy to throw a guy in there and take over. I guess this situation is the typical "the backup qb is always the most popular guy on the team."

Geez bt 71 it is only a question. Has nothing to do with support for Strevy. Actually is more for preservation if he is injured. Again just a discussion question. It's still a BS question. If Simmons was a better option don't you think the coaches would play him? He's not so they won't.

VOTE: which of the 2 would you rather have to beat NDSU? 1) Strevy at 75% 2) Simmons 100% Is this really a question??? Wow for everything that strev has done for this team now you're going to questions is ability to lead the team. Unreal. Way to support your QB your captain your without question team leader.
