I would strongly suggest that all speculation on this subject stop. Somebody is going to say something careless and all hell is going to break out. The police, the University and the team will handle this situation appropriately. There is no need for a bunch of anonymous discussion on a public message board. That is my personal opinion. I am not suggesting that the mods censor anything. I am suggesting that folks on here consider censoring themselves, however. Well Said. Amen! There is nothing productive coming from this conversation.

Cat is out of the bag....Mick Garry reporting Strev is practicing today and will be good to go on Sat. Pretty sure you would have to lock him up and throw away the key in order to keep him from playing this weekend. Huge inspiration to his teammates.

Never want to see anyone get hurt but SIU's QB going down is karma for the SUI bench cheering while Streveler was laying on the field. Totally classless. They were dirty all game long. Hard clean hits and being a physical team is one thing. But the dirty hits like on Greenfield in the 3rd were horrible. How many personal foul penalties did they have? 5? I did not realize that the Salukis were cheering when he went down. Was it just a couple of players or many that were cheering? I was too busy worrying about Streveler to even notice that. I didn't like the way Streveler was reacting after he got hurt. He started running off the field then all the sudden just kind of crumpled before he made the side line. I wasn't just worried about Chris not being in the game but I was worried about his health and well being. I just didn't like the way he reacted so I was very relieved to see him warming up to start the second half. I'm guessing with strev coming off the field and the way he fell had to do with him realizing that he needed to go down on the field to give Simmons more time to warm up. If he had just run off the field Simmons would have had to go in cold - and or we would have had to take a time out. By going down on the field of play he was trying to by time for the team.

Not to change the subject, but I'm going to discuss the elephant in the room that none of us want to talk about anymore...the loss to IL State, and I'm down the road looking for a rebound win against Southern. I actually would like to think nobody is posting in this thread anymore because they realize it was just 2 good teams playing each other and we ended up with the loss...because that is the fact. I think it just needs to be said. Our USD team is for real, still. The first 6 weeks of the season were not a fluke. USD is a great team! World beaters don't materialize overnight. You get the right coaches, bring in the right players, play the game and gain experience. This last game was a stepping stone. We're not NDSU yet (but that doesn't mean I don't think we can beat them this year either), it was just a glitch. You have to realize we were playing a veteran team in almost every facet...coaching staff has been there, has built their program, have the pieces in place and are a deep team. Realize too, we would have came away with it if it not for that wind. Plain and simple. Yes, they played with the wind too, but they are a veteran team and have built depth to run the ball. The second thing you have to realize is the place was crazy! I know this was the most crowded game I'll ever see this year. Maybe the attendance at the actual game was only around 12k...but the atmosphere around the stadium was incredible for ISU...I would say there probably was 20k around the stadium. Couple that with a good, veteran team that dropped their last 2 to arguably inferior opponents and you had a recipe for one of the toughest games USD is going to play outside of walking into NDSU. Imho, this loss doesn't bother me that much as ISU doesn't stand in our way of the conference championship as much as NDSU does and this loss is going to help us win in Fargo. I'm new to this whole FCS bidding for home field thing but from what I read, I know the conference champ has such a huge leg up! ...first round bye, not bidding for a home playoff game...isn't it the conference championship we really want? ...and will we have wind in the Dakota or Fargo Dome??? I am actually feeling better after this game as I know the entire organization took this loss to heart and it has made us a better team. If you use your head, thru all bad comes good and I know this staff uses their head! If there's a stat you want to key on in this game, it would probably be the 3rd down conversion rate of each team. I'm confident our team looks at tape and will get that fixed. As always...LET'S GO COYOTES!!! THIS IS YOUR YEAR!!!! ...onto Southern... So what is the elephant in the room? The wind or the attendance? I'm confused.

Maybe Coach Nielson and his agent are entertaining offers from other schools. Certainly their prerogative if they are. Business is business, got to take the opportunity when it comes. Would it be disappointing, of course. Would we wish him well? Absolutely, without question.

From the ISU site...
Defensively ... Tilting scale our way is we generally, we do well containing dual threat QBs, especially ones who run mroe than they pass. And our front 7 is very good. Streveler only runs a 4.7 forty, but feels pocket pressure and see field very well .. so while a good athlete, he looks more elusive than he is .. point being, he is no Tre Roberson running ball, but btter at read option and improvising. He is also not a pure passer by any means, but knows how to stay out of trouble with pass versus run decisions.
Not really giving Streveler much credit here. Apparently, this guy has not seen him out run just about everyone on the field, pretty sure he’s faster than 4.7. And he looks more elusive than he is? SO it’s an illusion on how he’s one of the top rushers in the MVFC? Looks like some billboard material here.

Unbelievable- how does WIU McGuire get player of the week with 334 yrds passing and 3 tds. When we had a guy get over 200 yrds receiving against a top 5 defense. Jackson is POY in my opinion. McGuire did lead them down the field to win the game so you have to factor that in Ok with that logic then I'll go with streveler - more completions, over 400 yrds of total offense, same number and he led the team down for a game winning FG to win the game. Still think shamar is more worthy. I just don't like to see the boys get shortchanged.

Best segment from that article, in my opinion: I would bet that the $4k was one of the factors that swayed Streveler to USD. He was coming from a MN program with a good COA allowance. Have to think more schools will be getting on board sooner rather than later.

Yote 14, DO you have a close relationship with Bob? If not how could you possible claim to not have one bit of doubt he truly cares about everyone he left behind at WIU? The way he handled the exit in Macomb was lying directly to the players faces. He said he was here to stay and then turned around got in his subaru and headed to Vermilion. Yes Illinois is a wretched detestable corrupt broke ass joke of a State. Hell, I don't even want to live here. I could go on and on about infrastructure upgrades that were promised and then vanished into thin air. Leatherneck Country Thanks for reminding me about Randy Ball....Lol. He moved to the FCS football black-hole. (otherwise known as Missouri State) Wait...can anyone confirm the Subaru? I had Bob pegged for something a little less outdoorsy. I'm saying chevy Malibu. Seems like that kind of guy.

Second coach to leave for a foe....sounds like a trend to me. And who cares about his personality? You want a guy that puts on a good show or one that can recruit and develop a successful football program. I personally vote for #2...but that's just me. doesn't matter the show if no one is there to see it. No even sure what that statement means. Obviously the "Bob Show" is working in some fashion - we are getting some excellent recruits and it looks like he got some good ones for WIU as well when he was there.

I don't blame Nielson given how gloomy the situation at Western Illinois sounds. He didn't want to tie himself to that sinking ship, and what choice did he have besides another MVFC school? Any other FCS conference would be a step down, and I doubt any FBS schools were offering head coaching positions. USD was the right choice for his family and career. You asked about the last time a D1 moved within conference, Steve Sarkisian comes to mind. Pulled Washington out of the dumps then went to USC in 2014. I can't think of even one other example though. It's also important to remember Nielsen was hired by an AD who was only liked by himself and was fired shortly after i would have had a lot more respect for Bob if he had just been straight up what else would you expect from someone who basically felt like the Alumni didn't deserve any of his time Bob is a good coach but i've seen dead cats with more personality good coach who's personality just wasn't right for Western and he is the second WIU football coach to leave for a conference foe.
