Economics is not the only driving force of your so-called trends. The word conspiracy also never appeared in my earlier post. Your main "argument" that the gap between the two institutions is "widening" is all I sought to contravene. Just took your advice and increased my HP membership and what do you know, that "widening" gap just got a little more narrow. =)

Going to throw the flag on "The Great Coyote" here.
First, could you have at least signed in with a name like "The Great Jackrabbit" or "Rabbit Turd?" Kind of have my doubts as to whether you are a USD graduate. =)
Second, I agree that the "trend" of SDSU getting more coverage existed in the D2 days, but it has become a full on "up-yours" since the Argus brought in Terry Vandrovec and that's the beef Coyote fans have with the Argus.
The SDSU football team could get new shoe-laces and Terry V. would do several interviews about it, write a blog about doing the interviews, do a live chat, Twitter about how the shoelaces affected his day, and then run two or three articles over the course of a week about how said shoe-laces may improve the Jacks' on-field aero-dynamics and chances of winning on Saturday while also helping to increase the team GPA.
That kind of extra coverage has not been well received by USD fans because it has come at the expense of news-worthy items not being discussed about USD. If over time a paper gives one institution more and more coverage it will in turn build a following from the particular instution being covered. That's Business 101. To scratch your head and wonder why USD fans don't in turn frequent the Argus Chats, blogs, and on-line article comments as often as State fans does not make sense. To come on here and type it's because SDSU fans are more fervent than USD fans is even more nonsensical.
Have the Jacks had wonderful successes since making the move to Division 1? YES, State has without a doubt earned a huge pat on the back and the recognition in print that comes with it. Those articles are fine with Coyote fans, it's the "shoelace" articles from Terry that infuriate Coyote fans.
In short, which came, first? The chicken or the egg is the overall theme that guides Coyote fans on the disparity of coverage between the two schools. So long as the Argus perpetuates their own belief that no one from USD cares and SDSU is the only school they have to cover, then that belief will become their perceived reality.
Comparing the budgets of these two schools is in some ways like comparing apples and oranges as State offers a variety of sports that USD does not offer. Those additional sports require more money and personnel. Yes, State spends more on the sports that USD does have, but that difference is narrowing every day, not widening as you assert.
The argument about corporate sponsorships is also misguided. The Learfield deal that SDSU negotiated and announced "first" actually was set in motion at USD long before such an arrangement was even being considered at SDSU. That is a fact. USD may not have WNAX doing its statewide radio broadcasts, but things are getting better. Sponors come and go as do donors and so far, USD's numbers are looking nothing short of fantastic for Howling Pack donations in 2011.
USD's enrollment is over 10,000, we have a full Summit League schedule now available with regional opponents, fans are coming to games again after enduring several years of difficult non-conference and Great West schedules, and we are new members in the Missouri Valley football conference.
As for the apparell argument, most USD grads don't work at Scheels, Target, or Wal-Mart so it's pretty hard to get USD gear at those retailers right now. We're having some of our graduates talk with their kids with summer jobs at these stores though and they're working on it. Hang in there. =)
In the meantime, join the Howling Pack and get informed.

That's been my hunch all along with UNO's announcement. Get in to the Summit, resurrect football and angle for the MVFC once they become full-fleged members of the Summit.

Would be nice to see McNeese State pay us back the game they still owe us. I see they have the 17th of September open between their games with Missouri on 9-11 and Cal Poly on 9-25. I am still burned by that one and would love to see them take a beating in the Dome.

I have been away too long. Coyote Fan's message about launching an ICBM full of waste water in Lamar's direction showed me how much I have been missing. =)

#1 Coyote, Nice job on the logo. I was thinking we could add the Summit and MVFC logo to the main-page index as well. Is that possible?

Any chance we can get a MVFC logo up somewhere around here? I realize Coyotefan will have to give up his Big Sky Guy moniker, but I don't think he'll have too many problems doing so. He can still be Missouri Valley Guy if he wants to. =)

usdlaw's "kabooms" this weekend will sound like this:
BANG, BANG, BANG, (insert swear word), then....
the sound of my laughter and one Kaboom from my gun resulting in a dead rooster. =)

Tuned in to the game and listened to the field goal attempt that would have put us up over UNI late in the third. We miss and UNI gets the ball and marches down and scores a TD?! Good to see our kicking woes are over. Won't let it ruin a great opening day, but for crying out loud Coyotes that was supposed to be in the past.
