I agree completely with this. SDSU and USD have been the best teams in the league since USD joined. There has been a team that has had a great year but they are not as consistent as SDSU and USD. Last year, Myah got injured and SDSU never recovered. This year, they are a deeper team. That is why I still see USD as a top 2 or 3 team next year, even after the big 3 leave. I will have to see somebody step up or one of these teams drop off, for several years, before I see anybody else as a serious contender. So by that statement I am guessing you are for the most part ruling out USD being a top 1 team and hinting that they may fall as low as 3. There is a good chance that the Coyotes do slip but the biggest mistake one can make is to under estimate the Coyote program. I am not happy about the loss but on the other hand the Coyotes have been having things be way too easy and blew out the Jacks in Vermillion. I think they have gotten complacent and honestly it is hard to blame them. Even without the big three no other program has proven to be able to take one of the top 2 spots. Dawn is going to have her work cut out for her. I really only see Kyah and possibly Krull being good players but the other are going to have to step up quite a bit and take much bigger roles. It is going to be interesting for sure. Top 2 includes 1 and 2. Top 3 includes 1,2,and 3. I see SDSU and USD present in those spots next year and don't really want it any other way. The coyotes lose a lot but Coach P's talents, in addition to coaching the current team, include identifying and recruiting new players. We might assume that there won't be another Sjerven for a long time, but if there is another out there Coach P will find her (if she hasn't already) and will work very hard to make her a coyote. I think it is dangerous to write off the next season for the coyotes until the next season is over. I would make similar statements about A.J. and the Jackrabbits.

From the goyotes.com website: Tonight's men's basketball game between South Dakota and Western Illinois to be played inside Western Hall in Macomb, Illinois, has been postponed out of an abundance of caution due to health and safety protocols within the Coyotes' program.I heard this is flu, not COVID-19. I hope everyone recovers quickly. This was mentioned last night at the end of the Jackrabbits broadcast.

I have seen only that Murray State might be admitted to the MVC. Have you seen something specific about Murray State football and the MVFC?

I agree that the SCSC is a nice facility but not all seats are created equal for sure. In basketball having a good seat gives the angle of being able to see both baskets properly. Some seats make it hard to see the baskets properly. For me basketball is one of the sports where it is important to sit between the baselines. I have had seats where I had to sit behind the basket and have to look through the glass of the backboard to see the shot go in. That's a good argument for getting seats early, right? I tend to agree. I will choose seats higher in the arena, or maybe in the corners to avoid watching the game through the backboard. But similar things are true for every sport. I had a seat directly behind home plate once at Target Field. I thought it would be great until I realized the umpire was in my way of seeing every single pitch.

My wife, while poking around in an antique shop, found a book of college songs from 1958. It includes Field Song, from the University of South Dakota. It does not specify whether it is a fight song, an alma mater, or if it is both. The lyrics start out, "South DKota, Land of Empire, Land of sunshine too, For your glory we conspire, All our hearts are true...". Is this a song that you still use?

So with all these proposed changes where does the leave the ordinary fan that just wants to park and come see the game and then go to their car and leave right after the game. Isn't the whole point of a game to see the game. Tailgating is nice but it is only for certain people. Enhancing tailgating is nice but it just pushes the ordinary fan even further from the dome. The ordinary fan if they have to walk too far might not come at all. I have no personal problem walking a ways but someone with a physical disability may just not show up if they don't qualify for handicapped parking. When I go to a football game I also go for the game. The game should be the top priority over the other activities planned around it. This post makes a lot of sense.

I know you had to wait an extra year for it. Are the amenities and atmosphere in the newly renovated dome everything you expected and hoped for? Also, is it completely finished now, or is there another phase left to complete?

The best way to counter this is to create the best possible culture where students want to go to and stay at South Dakota. It seems like SDSU doesn't have a big problem with players transferring out. So why did Daum stay at SDSU but the Coyotes couldn't keep Mooney or Umude. Maybe it is just the luck of the draw. I think you are right on the mark here. This could have been one of those lengthy posts that you used to be famous for writing. The bottom line is that the student athlete's priorities must match the school. This is where you could have sat back and expounded on many categories of these priorities. You could have mentioned or described a great many things, including academics including majors which would meet either rigorous or slack goals, coaching, the bar a restaurant scene, political views (but please don't), religious affiliation or opportunity, the arts, urban vs rural society, weather, recreational priorities, ethnic mix, gender mix, opportunities to play in front of family, facilities, etc. I am pretty sure that CF and I agree that you have to match the student athletes with the program, and that includes a lot of broad topics. Some, like coaching staff and athletic department philosophy can be controlled or changed. You can't do much about geography or the climate.

I have gotten both shots and didn't get sick from either of them. My wife is a nurse who came out of retirement to work in a COVID shot clinic part time. Both of us are big believers in how important this is.

Does anyone know if they are having any hog raffles at the games this weekend. That was a couple of weeks ago. Auction, not raffle.

Listen, SDSU played 40 minutes and didn’t quit. They’re a really good team. So are we. Truthfully I thought we had it but that goes to show you play till the final buzzer. Truthfully I think both teams not only have great players but great kids as well. Tonight's game was some real classic basketball. I think that we have to agree that very little about this season is normal or fair. Most of us will regard whatever happens this season with one huge asterisk.

Normally? Coffee, black. Completely agree with grinding your own whole beans. Total game changer. Invest in a quality conical burr grinder. You can order beans online. There are so many options. Personally, I order via Amazon beans from a small shop in Texas. Best part is it really isn't that expensive. Much, much cheaper than going to Starbucks, Caribou, or Tim Hortons. Today? Coffee & Bailey's. Merry Christmas! Have you tried beans from a local roaster? If you don't have one in your town, you probably shop in a city that has one or more such entrepreneurs. It is a great way to lend a bit of support to the local economy.

I fall into the category of "I don't like pro sports." That wasn't always the case, and the tipping point for me was the 94' - 95' MLB strike when the players were complaining that they weren't being paid enough, the umpires had their hands out, and the owners were griping the loudest at how little they were making...all at the expense of their fan bases. That was enough of all of it for me, and by the looks of it, pro sports have only deteriorated to an even lower point today. I think that fans (the ones who buy $75 and up tickets, that buy $8 and up beer, etc. to pay these guys) should be represented at the table where the collective bargaining agreements are negotiated.

I sometimes watch a little NBA. Since I tend to be a Timberwolves fan, I don't watch very far into the playoffs, if at all. This summer I am much more interested in baseball.
