Just remember, after the 2020 season, who thought that Liv Korngable would be a starter, much less the fantastic contributor that she became, the following year? Or Taylor Frederick the year before that? Every player on that bench was recruited for a reason. Some of them just need to be given their shot. The coaches are working with them, they work very hard in practice, they learn the opposing teams offense and defense, and they make it so that the starters can do their thing. Those young ladies are tough. Don’t give up on them or on the season until you see what they can do. Along these lines and going back a few more years, I would bring up Tia Hemiller. To this day, I still can't recall seeing any player make a more significant jump from year 1 to year 2 than what that young lady did. Her freshman year was a struggle in my eyes. Her sophomore through senior years were fun to watch.

Has there been any talk of potential assistant coaches? Strictly an observational guess here, but Ty Margenthaler sure seems to be Twitter liking everything Coyote related recently. Taylor Ignoto also appears to be a name to be on the lookout for. Liking a few things USD related recently as well.

Maddie most likely will see a significant decrease in her playing time. She averaged 31.5 MPG last year for the Yotes. Nebraska only had 1 player average over 30 MPG last year and it was Jaz at 30.9. Comparing stats between Jaz and Maddie don't line up favorably, either. Points per game 13.1 to 6.8, FG% .425 to .359, 3PT% .406 to .308, and rebounds 6.3 to 4.0. Jaz also had 27 more assists on the season but 12 more turnovers. Statistically, it looks like she will be a backup barring any injury or transfer. Without looking at the stats, I'd guess Maddie is a better defender, though. Defensive ability doesn't always show up on stat sheets. Jacks fans like to point out Kyah's offensive stats to discredit her, without acknowledging her defensive prowess (as an example). I dont' know how Coach Williams wants to use Maddie, but to me she is an elite defender. Stats wise, Jaz had 30 blocks and 56 steals on the season. Maddie had 13 blocks and 46 steals.

Makes sense, closer to home and a BIG 10 program. At least they are on the rise compared to WVU. Interesting decision as they have Jazz Shelley, a Jr. next year I think, who starts at the point and was All-Big 10 last year. Good luck to her and thanks for your efforts as a Coyote. Boogie has 8 days to find a program if he wants to play this upcoming season. Hooray transfer portal. Isn't Boogie a grad transfer? If he is, they don't have to find a school by the same deadline as transfers without a degree, do they?

Joens would be a great fit and she has heard from us. I'm sure Kayla has her eye on a portal player or two, we'll have the open scholarships, but she may also have her eye on some recruits that weren't being pursued by Dawn/Ariel. I wouldn't think there are many kids still uncommitted but I suppose that's a possibility as well. With Williston now gone looks like we we have at least 3 (4 if Krull leaves) spots open. Hopefully we add some good players. A source that tracks this stuff closely posted 3 hours ago that the D-1 transfer list for WBB was 1126 ladies. Of those, 260 had gone to new schools. Of those 260, 70 were going to Power 5 schools. Lots of available players yet.

Do we know for sure that Maddie is staying? Until we see an announcement that she has removed her name from the portal, there's a chance she'll go to WVU or any other school.

So here's WVU's situation: They had 5 super seniors that ran out of eligibility, so were expecting 10 players back. Three players (two of them starters) entered the portal before Dawn was even announced. A fourth player (third starter) entered the portal a day after Dawn was announced. None of them have yet signed with a new school. So they have a roster of 7 now. I don't know what they had that signed LOI, but at this point I think Coach P needs bodies. I believe they had 3 incoming freshman recruits that have all decommitted as well.

Leaving for WVU Pros: Coach P Big XII Cons: FAAAAAAR away from home for both kids. Family would not make it to more than a handful of games over the course of the rest of their careers Leaving Teammates/friends Leaving a team at the top of the conference/competing for NCAA tourney bid Joining a team in the bottom of the Big XII and may not get back to the NCAA tourney Here's a couple more pros and cons: (just playing devil's advocate) Pros:being part of lifting a program to new heights (again) the thrill of living in another region (some young adults are into that, I hear) Morgantown is actually a nice town for that region, affluent and in the mountains. Being in a conference that can more easily attract top talent, and always has multiple bids to the dance Ames, IA and Lawrence, KS are actually pretty close for Maddie's family, and Texas isn't the worst travel destination in the winter. Cons: Academics: West Virginia is the worst academic school in the Big XII, ranking #249 in US News recently (USD is #239, only below Denver and UST in Summit) Social: making new friends isn't always easy. Will Maddie and Kyah average 30.6 and 26.6 minutes per game respectively at WVU like they did this year?

FYI did anyone see what UMKC is paying their new Women’s Basketball coach. Looks like they are investing in their program which can only help our league. I thought I saw 345k Wow, I did not see that. Wonder what they were paying their old coach. Hoyt was making $180,000 annually.

We DID lose a 2016 recruit though. Rylie Casio-Jensen followed Williams to NU, later transferred to State. Wondering if Krull or Watson are hoping to get picked up by WVU? With Maddie, I wonder about the Huskers. Most NE girls dream of playing for that team and Amy just may want to make that happen.

CBU roster has two from Tasmania and two from Australia already on the roster. Perhaps Hunter is wanting to play with an old friend or 2?

Not to be the anti-home grown talent but we need to be semi realistic here. Some of the names mentioned (while excellent former stars) do not have the experience. We are a quality job, that unfortunately pays not well, so we need a coach who is proven in either the upper ranks of D2 or D1. Herbster if you’re reading I also suggest we start opening the checkbook a bit more this round. Not to bag on the FB program but if Nielsen can be making close to 300k and has had far less success then Dawn, then she should’ve been at the 300 mark too. Not saying the new coach deserves what dawn did imo but it’s clear we’ve gotta start paying more if we want quality coaches to consider us and stay. Dawn is listed at $275k. Bob just over $300k. Aaron Johnston at State just over $250k.
