Scheduling on short notice is hard. I can understand why this game had to happen. I'd rather have Northern than Augustana (curious how state ended up with them on the schedule instead of another Western Oregon).
I can't understand the reasoning behind a Thursday game. Most of the fanbase travels an hour plus for games. Why make it harder for us? There are so precious few home football games, why move one to Thursday? So disappointing to see this happen. I can remember happily going to a home game against NAIA William Penn, because it was a Saturday in the Fall. This game is shaping up to be an obligation.

Get to watch the CFL again this summer/fall. Last time Streveler played for them I thought Canadien football was really fun. Loved all the motion and how wide open it was. Ahem. Winnipeg is not in Quebec. He will be playing Canadi an football. No Frenchies in Manitoba. (I once met a diehard fan of the Montreal Canadiens and asked them to explain the spelling to me, and also why another NHL team was the Canucks). The CFL has a lot happening that the NFL should consider adopting. Styles that definitely benefit Streveler. I wish he could have had a longer NFL career, but am glad he has a safe job playing pro football in front of fans who adore him. Absolute legend to two fanbases.

Why on Thurs? ESPN national game? Afraid of the Northern State fans being able to attend.

That's pretty disappointing. D2 team on a Thursday night. I probably won't go. Maybe if it's like a 5PM kickoff I will be able to justify ducking out of work a couple hours early and making the trip to Vermillion. I don't make any of the Thursday basketball games because I hate getting home at 10 when I have to work in the morning.
If it were a D1 opponent then I'd make it work no matter what. Games against lower division opponents are things I usually ignore entirely. Even a road game at a bottom-to-middling FCS team would have been better in my eyes (for making a playoff resume). This is an exhibition as far as the playoff committee is concerned.

Last place, but 2 games behind 2nd place and 3 games out of 1st. Hard to say we have been left in the dust.

On Coach Karius I’m not the best person to ask on that…. I’ve been open since her initial hire about it being a missed opportunity to hire someone more established in the coaching world lol. My personal thoughts are it’s a hire that will likely end in a wash with no major break throughs and a handful of wall of shame games. I think next year will be her make or break year. Herbster knew he was leaving. Very lazy decisions the last year of his tenure.

Man, Denver's smaller, current arena is way less attractive than Magness.

I had a blast taking my toddler son to his first ever sporting event, thankfully a Coyote game. He sees the USD branding at home all the time and he was incredibly excited to point out all the Coyote logos at the SCSC. I have been so many times that I have lost sight of just how beautiful our arena is and how well the brand is plastered throughout the facility. The 5-foot standup SD paw inside the main entrance was a big hit. I was trying to wipe off my glasses from the long cold walk and he would not stop trying to bolt away from me and cut through the crowd to that 5-foot USD paw. Had to just hold him and wait for my glasses to de-fog. Running the concourse (with those tiny legs) was exhilarating for him as he pointed out all the branding while still having a great view of the court. The starting lineup and hype video with light show had him going crazy. He loved the band and the crowd making big noise when the Coyotes had a good play. We unfortunately did have to leave in the 2nd half when I wouldn't let him go onto the court and he threw a fit because he couldn't touch the biggest USD logo of them all. He was way past nap time anyways. He will be 2 in May. He will never remember this day but I will never forget it. I share this because some of you should lighten up. No one is happy about the result. The team has shown great potential and we are working with a rookie head coach. It's his second season as a head coach, but I'm calling him a rookie still. Anyone remember last year when he could have died and missed a bunch of games? Losing sucks. I think we are headed for better things. Try to be positive along the way. How old is your boy? I think I want to start bringing my daughter to VB games next fall. She turns 4 soon. He turns 2 in May. I can't imagine him lasting a full game anytime soon though. My plan next time is to do the 2nd half. Do they still let kids onto the court after the game?

So I guess this is the "Interstate Rivalry" game, and no longer the "Showdown Series" game? - Corporate Sponsorship naming things is awesome..... I don't care what a sponsor wants it to be called. It has always been "the State-U game" for me. Not a unique or colorful name, but rolls off the tongue and people know what I'm talking about. I would definitely have to explain "Showdown" or "Interstate" to people who aren't well connected with one of the programs. As for the game, who knows? This team is so up and down. Some nights we look ready to appear in the new Summit play-in round, other nights we have looked like a team that could win the whole thing. The St Thomas win is very encouraging, but so was the NDSU win. Stringing two good games together would be an excellent sign for the rest of the season.

St Thomas is probably the best team in the conference already, despite still being years away from postseason eligibility. It would be a giant win if we can take this one.

Interesting move on paper, leaving a head coaching position to move to SD and become a WR coach only to leave the profession a year later. How easy it is to forget that everyone has their own complications in life that aren't compatible with pursuing a career like this.

They have shown flashes of being good, but when they aren't playing well it all hits the fan. 15 minutes of competent or even great basketball isn't going to overcome 25 minutes of frequent turnovers with zero defense.

Had a great ~10 minutes after the under 12. Pressuring defense, deflecting balls, forcing turnovers, and making plays on the offensive end. Briefly took the lead even. Then more of the same dumb crap came up the last couple minutes of the half so USD trails 40-33 at halftime.
Glad to see there is life in this team. This was looking like a complete disaster for a while. It all seemed to start turning once the updated the score card to call us USD.

19-4 already less than 8 minutes in. Can't hold onto the ball. Can't defend. This isn't promising.
