It will be great to see Calvin and DaValon succeed as Coyotes both on and off the field!

Calvin Strong, WOW!
The Joe Glenn era is building momentum, you can see how he has put together National Championship programs!
I better keep my Howling Pack points at a high level, I don't want to miss out on a good seat for the BIG games to come!
And the sun is rising, meaning it's a great day to be a Yote fan......

One thing that I left out of my comments about Lunch with the U last week when Coach Glenn spoke, was that the staff is really high on the QB recruit from Council Bluffs. They said he was definitely the best arm they had in camp - and oh by the way, he is a pretty solid runner as well.

I understand the love for Calvin Strong because he's put up some great numbers and it's always exciting to see the young kids come into the program and watch them make their mark. That said, a 4.7 40yd time is not good for a running back, he's going to need to work on developing his speed. At 5ft9in I also think he is a bit undersized for conversion to linebacker. He might be a good candidate to play in secondary as a safety but again, a bit undersized for that position.

Boy this is a huge one! But I gotta think this will be a tough commit to hang on to, you know he is going to be getting some FBS offers this fall. He has drawn interest from a number of top FBS programs, and they certainly weren't laying off because of his lack of skills. If our staff can keep his mind fully on the Yotes for the next five and a half months I'll be esctatic.

I agree with Yotes, and the article Cuz linked says so, there is still a long path to go until the Signing Day fax comes in. However, if Calvin Strong is playing FCS football in the future it is very likely it will be with the Coyotes, thanks again to our recruiting efforts!
And the sun is rising again, so it must be a great day to be a Yote Fan!

Even if all this does is get the Yotes name out in Omaha and attract a few recruits away from the competition, it is a win.

Calvin Strong - RB Omaha North 5'9" 185 highlights from Jr yearRushed for 3000 yards as a junior - only player in Nebraska HS to ever do that Calvin reminds me of Troy Davis - former star RB with Iowa State in the mid-90s (link to article on Troy Davis listed below). Troy was heavier, but had a very similar knack for making defenders miss. He also had some baggage and size issues that kept the biggest programs from offering. For Troy, getting to Ames IA and away from his troubles in Miami allowed him to get his life headed in the right direction athletically and academically. I know Vermillion could provide Calvin a similar backdrop to hopefully #1 get a college degree. #2 launch his athletic career and see how far he can go. Hope it works out for him. I understand his verbal is conditional that if he gets a BCS offer he would decommit from USD, but that is literally true for 99% of all FCS verbals in every program. If Nebraska or Iowa come calling with a late offer there isn't likely a verbal commit from any MVFC school that would be safe. Troy Davis ISU article

Rumor has it that Calvin's grades are pretty horrible. Keeping the bigger programs away for now. Might be tough to get him eligible or even into school.

I thought I read in the Omaha paper that his core grades are high enough - his ACT score is too low right now. If USD ends up signing him, my guess is we won't see him eligible until the 2016 season, if at all. I wish the kid luck and hope he is doing everything he can to focus on doing the right things.

You are correct, OBC. The articles and his coaches state that he has the core GPA necessary to get in, now he just needs the ACT. His main hurdles for other offers are the ACT, a lower 40 time and prior disciplinary incidents. Regardless, the dude can play.

I'm only familiar with the Admissions process at USD (2.6 GPA or 21 ACT or top 50% of your class), do other large schools (like Nebraska) require a good ACT score for admission?

He can actually be accepted to USD with less than that - he needs to meet the NCAA Div 1 initial elligibility requirements. NCAA DIVISION 1 INITIAL ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
