Well I mean...it goes back to the whole saying of you have to earn respect. We won't get too much respect in preseason polls until we win some quality road games, play conistent football and win some close games instead of always coming up just short. We finished t-7 last year after a promising start. With our schedule and history, I would have guessed we would be somewhere 7-9 in this poll, not that it matters too much. Realistically, I think we are a better team than last year, but still not sure we are among the elite teams in this league yet. Futhermore, we rotated out of the only "cupcake" team in the league, Indiana state. I think 4-4 in our league wouuld be pretty good and 5-3 would be outstanding.

I hope the Yotes are insulted by this ranking and take it out on the League for the entire season.
It won't be long to find out.
Go Coyotes!

Pre season rankings are always just garbage, not to mention pointless, so getting upset over them isn't worth it. It would be nice to see some respect, but respect has to be earned.

My guess is that USD FB will finish the season with a 7-5 record (6 d1 wins)
Wins - William Penn, Northern AZ, MO ST, YOUNGSTOWN ST, Western IL, IL ST, SDSU.
Losses - Oregon, Montana, SO IL, UNI, NDSU,
Important year for USD FB - Glenn is in his 3rd year and I believe the team will step forward this year.

Gotta win first to get the respect to be projected to win?
Well then, Coyotes fans are going to be happy about next year's preseason poll.
In the words of the incomparable Aretha Franklin,
"R-E-S-P-E-C-T"
This season is all about, RESPECT the Yotes!!

I believe practice starts today. Finally, the long wait is nearly over. I'm very anxious to see what Glenn has in store for us this year, it could be a very pivotal season.

Something tells me the yotes will surprise the conference this year. We have the pieces in place to win a lot of ball games. Will we win the conference, No. But there is something to be said for veteran lines on both sides of the ball and a quarterback that is not only capable but has substantial game experience. We have at least three running backs that could each go off for over a hundred any given day and a quarterback turned tight end that just looks like an all American in the making. Let's not forget about Riley leading our receiving core this year and JVM being a playmaker wherever we use him.
As for the competition...
UNI - not exactly sure why they are picked so high this year. They have a good running back returning but I don't think he is a world beater by anyone's standards
SDSU - always going to be a tough team. Zenner is the real deal in the backfield. That being said, I think our RBs have the potential to be just as good. Prediction, may be far fetched, I think he has a let down this year. Without him that team is very beatable, even in that dump of a town up north.
NDSU - obviously very good. But the personnel changes, both coaching and players, will have an effect on them. They have been too good for too long. As soon as something goes wrong for them I could see the program unraveling quickly. I just don't think they have the leadership anymore to embarrass teams week in and week out
MISS ST. - Why on earth are they ranked so high? We have their number. We had them beat two years ago until the perfect storm of bad events hit with five minutes left. Then we beat them last year. Granted it wasn't a beating like it should have been but let's think about it. Our guys had never won a game in the conference before that one. We were still learning how to win. I think that game will be won with a pretty comfortable margin.
Illinois schools - don't really know what to think about them. They could all be coin tosses as far as I'm concerned.
Bottom line...
The coyotes go at least 500 with a couple big wins. When I say big I mean like it used to be. When a worse team comes to the dome, we will win big. Wesley will get a lead and keep on the gas and put some big numbers on the board and our defense will dig in and keep the ball out of their hands.
We are not good enough yet to walk in to any game on our schedule and know we will leave with the W though. I can see us probably dropping a game or two that we should win. BUT I think our guys will go out and beat a couple teams that we probably shouldn't either.
Going to be a fun season. Looking forward to cheering on our yotes with all of you this fall. Look for me in the tailgate area. I'll be the one in red.
Just my .02 I guess. For what it's worth.

Nice post fightsd. Lots of points to agree with. I'm getting anxious for some updates once the first week of practice wraps up. Hoping there are some new folks who will be able to step up right away and give us some depth and different skill sets at various positions that haven't been there in the past. Also hoping for more than a few stories of guys who made huge strides in the weight room, watched tons of film, memorized the playbook, etc...over the summer and will now be challenging for starting roles.

I guess once again I have to be the black cloud. I don't understand the optimism to the point of picking the Coyotes to have a winning overall record. I just don't see it. The season didn't end real well and instead of getting 1 year better Joe Glenn is simply just one year older. I don't know if he has the energy anymore and am closer to believing that the game may have just passed him by. By the end of this season whatever improvements Glenn has made or not made will just kind of be where Coyote Football will be stuck with him at the helm. By this point I certainly expected better based on his past resume but for whatever reason it just hasn't happened. Maybe I will be wrong and the third season will be a major breakout season but nothing concrete points in that direction. I predict a 2-6 or maybe 3-5 Valley record. Ho Hum.

The absolute best thing about the first part of August is that every college football team in the USA is undefeated, and the players, coaches, and fans enter the season with optimism. The Coyote fan base is no different. You can build an argument that some of the optimism on here is warranted. We have a top notched and experienced QB. We have an established offensive line. We have 3 running backs that can get the job done. Our receivers are above average. i.e. We are going to score a lot of points. Now the question is can our defense be coached up, play exceptionally hard, and keep us in games. If so, the optimism is warranted. If not, you might be right coyotefan, a ho hum season is possible. The fact you lay out your analysis as you did is not upsetting to me. What upsets me is now the unwarranted negative comment about Coach Glenn.
Less than three years ago you were calling for the head of a Coach Meierkort, and I stuck up for Ed despite it not being a politically correct stance. He had guided us through the transition, beat some damned good teams, and brought in more talent than USD had ever seen. Yet you wanted his head. And you got your way. Sayler fired Ed, and if I remember correctly, you were enamored with the hiring of Coach Glenn. Now, before his 3rd season, in your mind, he's older (who isn't) and your questioning if he has the fire...and if the game has passed him by. Yet I will tell you, despite the fact I didn't think Meierkort should've been fired, there is no doubt that the hiring of Glenn was exactly what we needed. He brought with him an uncanny level of charecter and integrity. And there isn't anybody on the face of the earth that is a bigger Coyote than Joe Glenn.
Joes job is to make us better, and put us in position to win games. He's done just that. The Coyotes are better. But the league is better, and the question now remains are we better more than the league. I think we can win 5 games in the conference. I also think it could be 2-3 as you predict. The truth is I don't know. But I do know that we will never get better without some coaching stability. We have that now. But if the time comes where Coach Glenn doesn't have the fire anymore, he will be the first to say so. Joe Glenn is a winner. Don't you ever forget that.

I was ok with the hiring of Glenn but I didn't like the way he was hired. I would have rather that USD hired the football coach back then the way they hired Craig Smith for the basketball position. They held a true national search. USD got major tunnel vision towards Glenn without really looking at all candidates. I think critisism of Glenn is warranted until he proves he can turn this into a true winning program. As far as Earl is concerned, I don't think he is the best thing since sliced bread but he is a good-solid-average quarterback. It's easy to look at Earl as somewhat as a savior (and maybe rank him higher than he should be) compared to the substandard play we were getting with Josh Vander Maten. It kind of bothers me how long Glenn stuck with Josh considering how he performed on the field. It made me think Glenn was more into loyalty towards a player than winning. It was obvious well before the change was made that Josh just wasn't cutting it.

You also called him a "young" 60
