Good Luck tomorrow boys. I understand, we don't stand a damn chance, but we stand behind you guys. We will be a great team this year either way. Go out, and let them look back at us and say we were harder to be than once expected. Coyote Nation is a proud fan base, now lets go and represent tomorrow. Go Yotes!

Looking at the player participation report for the Oregon game, the following true freshmen played:
Adam Harris, DB West Des Moines Jake Leoh, LB Iowa City Kray Krolikowski, DL Winner Bailey Sutko, DL Kansas City Brandon Godsey, DL Raymore, Mo.
If I remember correctly, we pulled redshirts on 9 freshman last year. With the exception of Sutko and Krolikowski, who were pressed into action early because of DL injuries, not a big item of concern.
It appears all of this year's JC transfers made the field with the exception of Mason Ruiz, DL.

Ryan Saeger interviews USD studentsThis is really well done. Sad so many of the students have not participated in the gameday experience - especially the kid who says he hasn't attended any games because he has been too busy on the weekends... Going home.

Congrats to Nile Banks on MVFC OL of the week. It will be nice having McLeran and Banks in the middle of the OL for the next few years! Keep up the good work, Go Yotes!

Gold star, so to speak, to whomever thought up the Ryan Saeger interview stuff. Maybe it should be a series.

That video was awesome. Every Coyote football player needs to get up in front of every class they have and ask their fellow class-mates to support the team at every home game and when possible, on the road. Basketball players should do the same. Hell, all USD athletic teams should do this. The best fans in the world are those who feel a connection to a team. No better way to start to build that connection to Coyote teams than in the classroom and around campus.

I didn't view the film that way, as a way to connect to USD students. I felt it was embarassing to them and will hopefully shame some of them into thinking about supporting their school.

Results though the first half of the MVFC (first four games of the eight game schedule)
USD avg score 11.25 Opponent avg score 36.5
The next four games are all winnable but it is really up to the USD players at this point. I hope that the leadership on this team circles the wagons and finishes November with at least three wins. I am sick of hearing about how young our players are and how inexperienced. A true freshman QB for YSU went to Brookings yesterday and beat the jacks. Indiana St went to SIU and blew them out!
Time for the leaders to demand more and if there are problems inside the locker room handle it! Don't let people that are not 100% on board derail the mission. The last four teams are not as talented as NDSU or as disciplined. Time to step up!

My 2$: Oregon: L W Penn: W Montana: L NAU: W SIU: L -- SIU will be very good defensively this year. UNI: L -- UNI will be the preseason #1 in the Valley IMO. They return a ton of players. MSU: W -- MSU is always a mystery in the Valley. NDSU: L -- NDSU will be good. Defense will carry the team right away. YSU: L -- Always tough to win in their place. WIU: W -- probably a toss up but I'll go with the home team Ill St: L -- Ill State will be a good team in '14. SDSU: L -- SDSU needs to replace guys on both lines like the Bison but should be in contention for the Valley title. 4-8 overall 2-6 conference I think it is interesting to go back to the beginning of this thread for the 2014 FB Season and read the predictions. Bisoninnwmn rubbed people wrong with his prediction, but it is looking like he was overly optimistic for the Yotes season with his 4-8 prediction. Other than predicting a USD victory against MSU he has been spot on.

There are a lot of excuses and reasons people give for the putrid results this Coyote FB team has put up the past 2 3/4 seasons. Out of date facilities, small rural town, low coaching salaries, the MVFC is a great conference, more established schools in our "backyard" having success, we are still early in transition, our players are young, our players are inexperienced, our fans don't show as much passion. The list goes on and on. Those are all valid reasons that can be used for the lack of success as they all have a varying degree of truth.
IMO, you have to lean into whatever strengths your program has. You have to view the reasons for failure listed above as not insurmountable, but obstacles you are confident you can overcome. When this staff took the job, unless they were not paying attention, knew about them. The coaches were hired to overcome these and set the program on a track to start chipping away at some of those obstacles listed above that are able to be fixed.
All of those reasons listed above have ZERO impact on: Can USD be a disciplined team? Can they be the most prepared? Can the players take it upon themselves to watch so much film they literally have their opponents game tape memorized? I hope the coaches are already watching so much film their eyes hurt. Can the leadership of the team demand players give everything or get out?
USD has not appeared to be those things. Not only does USD look not as skilled, they look like a bad team on top of it. How many of you on here would seriously be 100% confident USD could go on the road and beat a very good D2 team? Even if USD had a talent advantage, my prediction would be a disciplined team would beat them. It shouldn't be that way! If you are not more talented you have to work the hardest, have the most resolve, and be as disciplined as you possibly can be. We are not seeing anything close to that - and that is what is most disappointing to me.
As Yote53 said awhile back - the DakotaDome for all it's faults could become a snake pit (I love that nickname by the way, and would love to see it formally adopted) that opposing teams dread coming into - cramped, loud, walls a few yards for out of bounds to worry about ....... This is one example of what is currently perceived by our peers and perhaps some of us as a current disadvantage that could be turned into a huge advantage. I would even go so far to say that if UsD turned the corner and started winning and selling out the dome with loud fans, there would be talk from opponents that the Dome is an unsafe facility and something needs to change.....
It is time the program starts leaning into its strengths. It is the only way that our shortcomings will ever have a chance to be overcome. The clock is ticking.

obc, you state above that "you have to lean into whatever strengths your program has". Well stated. In the Art of War, Sun Tzu states that if one knows themselves, one will always be victorious in battle.
I'm afraid we, meaning coaches I guess, do not know our strengths. Certainly, we must have some? I know football is not war, but there are some similarities.
Let's prepare like never before for Western Illinois. We can win this game!!

Say what you want about location, facilities, fanbase, whatever...
The right staff would be able to win a lot of games with these players. There is just no discipline, no leadership in the program. If the athletic department seriously wants football to be a success, they will open up that checkbook and get a full staff of qualified coaches. Joe Glenn is one heck of a guy, but I have to wonder if the game has passed him by, and he is too loyal to his staff to a fault. I can appreciate that Joe came in and cleaned the program of the terrible character our players were exhibiting off the field, but posting another MVFC goose egg (or even a 2-6 record) is plain unacceptable in year 3 under any head coach.
I am very surprised to see myself get to this point, but I am just not going to be able to get excited about the 2015 football season if we are bringing back Joe Glenn and co.

We can win this game, we absolutely have the talent. We could have won most of our games this season, but found a way to lose instead. Playing up to our potential would probably result in an absolute blowout of Western Illinois! I'll be there in the stands cheering harder than anyone in my section, but I just won't be surprised to see the Yotes find a way to give away another game.
