Aren't the Armstead brothers from Broken Arrow? Nice little pipeline there.

I have two guys on my list that Jay Elsen hasn't confirmed. I hope they are still in. Two big names with Houston and Hall. www.midcosn.com/blog/2015/01/usd-recruiting-update/Houston has been offered by Prairie View A&M, but is getting looks from Mizzou, his home state. Clearly not a slouch of a player.

FWIW Milo Hall still has the USD Coyote logo on his Twitter account. Always a good sign.

I haven't really spent much time actually watching the hudl highlights for our commits this year. However, I just decided to watch the film for Austin Simmons, being our QB. Before even seeing a single clip, it provided his 2014-15 stats. I almost hesitate to even mention this because I don't want it to become a USD vs. SDSU conversation, but it is too impressive to ignore.
Simmons' stats for the year are as follows: Passing 149-262 (57%) for 2,066 yards, with 25 TDs and 5 Ints; Rushing 177 attempts for 1,194 yards and 21 TDs.
Now, I watched several of Tyrin Christian's games, including the unfortunate game against Lincoln where he was hurt. Prior to his commitment, his career numbers, having started since he was either a freshman or sophomore, are passing for 3,474 and 29 TDs; rushing for 1,259 for 25 TDs. I cannot find his stats for this year or the track that he was on. For comparison purposes, Isaiah Roach of LHS lead the state in passing with 2,229 yards, completing 139 of 208 attempts (67%).
All I want to point out is that I am VERY comfortable acknowledging they comments that were said in the summer that USD got the QB it wanted from the start. It would have been GREAT to get an in-state guy, but I will not question their decision making on this matter one iota.
Just so we are clear, BOTH schools got GREAT regional QBs. I would have taken either in a heartbeat. I am just pointing out that I fully support the decision of our staff to go with Simmons.

I agree, Simmons looks like the real deal. That said, stats don't mean a whole heck of a lot as far as transition from HS to college. I do think Simmons fits our current system very well though. He makes all of the throws he will be asked to make in USDs offense in his Hudl film.
I don't know anything about the Christian kid that committed to SDSU, but his stats don't seem like his skill set set is very comparable to any QB that they have had recently. He sounds like more of a spread option QB run threat than a pocket passer. Maybe they are going a different direction now that Zenner is gone.
Any thoughts?

Not saying Iowa 4A is better than SD 3A by any means. I haven't watched enough Iowa HS ball to make a fair assessment there. I'm just not putting too much stock in comparing stats between these two.

Elite athleticism for FCS, with decent arm strenth. I did not think he was as accurate as LHS QB but that may be becuase they had better WR's. Simmons seems like he has a very good arm, and is accurate. A better thrower at QB, but still has some athleticism.

Keep it mind, I am not trying to call anybody out, just pointing out that I understand the decision of the coaching staff. Accepting an out-of-state commit early on when there is an in-state kid that is worthy of a scholarship is not easy. In doing so, they effectively took themselves out of the running for Taryn - hence the admission from him that USD didn't pursue him very heavily and he didn't "feel it." We already had our QB.
