Okay, I'm a little slow today. I recognize some are just trying to have a little fun with Jacks fans so rather than me print the actual facts, below I have pasted a link to the SDSU Media Guide so you can read the facts yourselves about SDSU's women's basketball success and post-season appearances. The Jacks have won six Summit League Titles. Look 'em up. issuu.com/jackrabbitathletics/docs/wbb_media_guide_13-14?DB_OEM_ID=15000&DB_LANG=COne thing that is good for all teams in the conference is the growing strength of the USD program and for that Coach Williams deserves tremendous credit. I keep saying that the immediate goal is two teams in the NCAA Tourney and if we can attain that goal, then the goal is three teams. USD has stepped up. Will the other schools? What a great season for the state of South Dakota in college basketball. Although my preference would have been to win both games, it's refreshing to see the gap is narrowed and am thinking might even get closed shortly. But at the end of the day, great recognition for the state. A new and healthy rivalry has been reborn ( although you can bet many, not all, SDSU posters won't awknowledge that ). Congrats to the Jacks on the women's title. Hopefully the title game will be as it was this year for several more years. JackJD, you have to admit Bunny posters get better treatment on this board than Coyote posters do on your board.

I assume USD will get a post-season tourney invite. Will they accept? The only reason I ask is I read Mick Garry's article about what the team will look like next year and he used words like 'Bos and Larson are gone'. Clearly he was talking about next year but for some reason the words selected made me wonder if he knew something. The post-season tourneys other than the big dance can cost a school some money and I suspect some schools turn the invites down.

USD has always taken the option of playing out their season as long as possible and have accepted the lower level tourney's in the past. Money was not a deal breaker then so hopefully it isn't now either. Maybe Mick does know something but my money is on the Yotes playing on if they are indeed invited to a tourney.
Speaking of Mick there couldn't be a bigger pushover than him so I can't totally trust his opinion on whether he knows if the Coyotes will play on or not. During the daily preview chats with Matt Zimmer during the Summit Tourney he always let Matt control the conversation and Mick is supposed to be the bigger Summit expert. The guy must hate covering USD athletics. He never stood up for the Coyotes in any capacity that I remember when it came down to previewing games that they were involved in especially when it came down to playing the Jacks. I will give Mick credit for the many articles that he wrote during the Summit Tourney but I wish he would show a little more of a pro Coyote feel to his work.

I think USD will play ball if they are invited but that is just strictly my opinion. I do agree that Mick is really laid back. He seems to not want to monopolize the conversation. I've heard many times the Terry was a "homer" for the Jacks because some of his stories might have been taken as too positive for the Jacks. He did have some stories that were not favorable for the Jacks but some people skip those stories. Matt has already questioned SDSU either not calling a timeout or taking it to the hole so we will see what peoples opinions are from here on out. The only reason I brought this up is because you want Mick to have a more "pro Coyote feel to his work". It has to be a fine line between being a "homer", not pro enough for the team you cover and being just right. I did really appreciate that Terry seemed to put out at least twice as many stories of the Jacks then Mick did for the Coyotes though.

I've had a few beers with Mick at Leo's before, he's a Coyote. It's just his personality to be laid back.

You have to wonder about Mick. I loved it when Coach Williams called him out during the post game of the first game for wearing a blue jacket! If you're covering the Yotes and don't wear red at least wear a neutral color--just common sense!!

If you're covering the Yotes and don't wear red at least wear a neutral color--just common sense!! I wish I could stick up for Mick but he has never been pro USD. Almost 90 percent of what he says is negative about USD. It's little things like wearing blue to the tourney to "fit in" that are just wrong. If you do not want to wear red thats fine, you probably should you are our beat writer after all, but dont wear the color of the hated rival. I wish dearly that we could get someone else at the argus to write stories for the yotes. I do not want a beat writer that is 100% a homer but I also do not want a beat writer like Mick that rarely says positive things about the yotes. Jay Elson is not a homer but does an amazing job keeping the narrative positive and neutral. Terry V was a huge homer. They do not get any more homer than he was. but you know what I respected that about him. He was an amzing beat writer for the bunnies. That was his job and he did a great job at it. Even negative things like the bunnies losing to NDSU 6 straigt times in football he would spin into a positive somehow. All I hear from Mick and the Argus is there are less USD stories because there are not as many people reading them. Are there a ton of people searing the web to read articles like "more than tying knots, six teens become eagle scouts" which is an actual article on the argus recently. No one wants to read your stories Mick because they are negative garbage. I follow the yotes because I am a fan not because I want to read your articles about how much they suck and cannot get better because of every excuse you make up in your articles. Show me you actually care about writing for the Yotes or else get a different job and let someone that will do a good job take over.

I was very impressed by the job Jay Elson and the Midco team did covering the Summit Tourney this year.

I agree about Jay Elson, he does a very good job with the broadcast on Midco. Tom Niemen (I think that is his name) is much more pro Jacks when he does the broadcast. Elson is seriously good at his job and very fair to all. Maybe he should be the play by play voice of the Yotes. I would take him over Van Gore.
