"Middleton is out recruiting with Nielson. Middleton is of course on the payroll for a few more months, but I don't think Nielson would take him on the road unless he intended on hiring Middleton onto the staff."
***Really looking forward to a new offensive set of coaches including a new WR Coach! The offense needs new life, new direction & new concepts - not just the defense. I actually though the defense showed SOME improvement this year based on the pass 2 or 3 years. The new DB coach did a good job with the CB's he would be good one to retain.
We have a great opportunity to do good things right out the gate, lets start of strong!

That is the type of athlete we need. Love it.

Sounds like a nice player and the type we may see more often to play in Nielsen's new offense.

Great get! Too bad he's not twins could play one at WR and one at CB! Great hands, quickness, solid tackler, instinct for the ball...

I think USD needs to get deeper on the OL and DL. Hopefully we make them a priority.

Was informed today that former Omaha North and Iowa Western CC QB Zach Martin received an offer from the Yotes. Could add some depth into the QB competition going into this spring. I believe he has a walk-on offer to Nebraska as well.

I believe he has a walk-on offer to Nebraska as well. Yes, he confirmed that a couple weeks ago in an interview, but I just read the other day that he was intending to accept an offer at NW Missouri State. Maybe that isn't the case yet, however? I know that UNL was hard after him to walk-on. I will see if I can find the article with his comments.

Took me a while, but i found the excerpt from Huskers Online (HOL) as of December 19:
Zach Martin (JUCO QB walk-on) Update from HOL...
I was able to catch up with Council Bluffs (Iowa) Iowa Western C.C. quarterback Zach Martin, who played his high school ball at Omaha (Neb.) North, to see where his recruitment stood at the moment. He has been offered a preferred walk on spot by the Husker staff.
I asked him if he was getting any closer to a decision?
Yeah, I am. I've been telling people that it will be right before the new year that I'm thinking of making my decision. I've been kind of waiting for South Dakota to hire a new head coach, and they finally have with Coach (Bob) Nielson. So then, I've talked with him a little bit but I'm waiting to hear back from him next week to see if they are going to take a quarterback or not once they hire an offensive coordinator.
So maybe there would be a possibility, and if not, Northwest Missouri State has been talking to me a little bit and they said they would be interested. And obviously, Nebraska is still an option too. So those are the three schools right now that I'm kind of thinking about.
I asked Martin if South Dakota or Northwest Missouri State comes through with an immediate full ride offer, will he take that over his opportunity to walk on at Nebraska?
With South Dakota most likely I would, but with Northwest Missouri I would still look at Nebraska for sure. But with South Dakota, with them being Division I and being in the Missouri Valley, they are playing pretty good football. It would be a little harder to turn that one down than Northwest.
I asked him when the last time was he talked with the Cornhusker staff?
I think it might have been a week or two ago. You know, they are getting ready for their bowl game and I'm hoping to speak with them afterwards. Hopefully, they can get a win there. That would be nice.
Martin reiterated that he will know where he's going to college before the new year.
Yeah, I will definitely have a decision before the new year. I will still have enough time to get signed up for classes and stuff like that after the new year. So I think that would be a good time.
Lastly, I asked Martin how the surgery on his knee turned out?
It was good. They only had to do surgery on the ACL, so they are hoping in about four months that I should be throwing and doing drop backs and stuff like that, drills and everything.

Per Sean Callahan at Rivals:
Former Omaha North QB and now @reiverfootball QB Zach Martin has accepted a scholarship to Northwest Missouri State per his father Larry.
Tore his ACL earlier this year.
