This Scout Recruiting Article regarding Jake Richardson who in 3 consecutive days picked up offers from UNI, USD and SDSU is an interesting article about some of the stuff that goes on in the recruiting process.

I saw this. I thought it was funny how the SDSU coaches try to put down USD to make them look better.
‘You should really come South Dakota State if you want to go to the best school in South Dakota.’ And I was like, ‘Oh OK.’
If the coach is talking football, right now I will give that to him. If he was talking about education I will just laugh and keep my mouth shut.

The best is SDSU thinking they are in contention for a National Championship. Ummm, have they looked north to Fargo. Yeah, you have to go through those guys. Or east to Illinois State. Ahum. The only accurate statement is that SDSU is closer to a NC than USD right now, but both are still far away from that goal. Playoffs are one thing, contenders is another.
“This one seemed like it was strictly (defensive) end position because they would tell me, they were like over the last couple years they were so close to winning that National Championship,” Richardson said. “And they have been lacking at that (defensive) end position, and they feel as though I can fill that void and help them accomplish that championship. And a National Championship, I would take a National Championship.”

Was it just me or was that pretentious and snarky attitude that comes out of Brookings towards USD prevalent in that article too.

Well if we are to be honest with each other, SDSU last year could have been making a run. They had the lead and gave up a last second TD to the Bison if I remember correctly. The thing is, anyone that contends in the MVC in my opinion is a contender for the top prize. Maybe that will change in time, but right now we play in the premier league in the country, and if we can play our way into contention for that, we then can have discussions about the Cyrstal.
First we have to play ourselves I to contention. I honestly thought last year was the year we made progress, but now have to have faith this year is. SDSU is a dog gone solid ball team, like it or not. Our job is to correct that.....soon. Very soon

Very soon Agreed, and this seems pretty mild compared to some stories you hear about the negative things that are said about opponents or what could be said during the recruiting process.

How's it going everyone Byron Bullock here , played at USD from 07-09 number 9 . First post on here figure this would be a good way to keep up with football at USD , anyway what happen to USD recruiting out west I remember when I was going through my process that was a huge reason why I committed to South Dakota over other schools the heavy presence of West coast players . I look at th roster now and see there is hardly if any west coast players on the roster. I guess as coaches change recruting locations change.

It’s like over $100 million. It’s crazy. The article clearly states that the discussion was in regards to "facilities". Pretty honest from an SDSU standpoint. Brand new Indoor Practice Facility and a serious upgrade to the stadium. As for a National Championship, I'm pretty sure we were the only school in the playoffs to really give NDSU a run. Get past them last year, and guess what. We are likely talking SDSU v Ill State for a National title. The pecking order in the upper Midwest right now goes NDSU, SDSU, big gap, USD, big gap, UND. That is just the way it is.

jacksfan29,
You forgot to include the big gap between SDSU and NDSU. SDSU is not in the same stratosphere as the Bison as a program. They win big games and they do it time after time and they win championships year after year and have done it for decades. SDSU is still a FCS wannabe as far as seriously challenging for a title. SDSU can't get over the hump in the playoffs and have never truly sniffed a championship. Even with a win over NDSU I am not convinced that SDSU would have been able to go on the road again and get another win. How short a memory can be. Do you even remember the national championship game? Go take a peek at how that game played out and tell me that SDSU was the only team that gave a good game to the Bison. Illinois State would have beaten SDSU in the playoffs just as NDSU did. How far have the Jacks made it in the playoffs during their history? Your current is solid but your history is putrid. How can you put a gap between USD and UND unless UND is on the better side of that gap. The USD football program has basically bottomed out and no real changes are being made to change that.

Played in the CFL? Nice having you on the forum. I cant really put my finger on what USD is missing recruiting wise because the recruits seem to be highly touted out of HS. At least this years team returns many holdovers with experience from last year.
