I hope my prediction is wrong. Maybe this is the year it all comes together. The 9 kids from our Oklahoma pipeline should start to pay dividends this year.

UC Davis and Drake will be two wins, the hard part will be holding our own in conference play. Today I'd guess we finish at 4-7, but I could also see the team posting a winning record or dropping to another 2 win season. After last season I just hope to see a team that fights through a whole season. I hate to make the implication that the team gave up last year but the last six games last year were just tough to watch.
If we have a respectable season does Joe Glenn plan on staying on board as head coach? When he was hired I got the impression he was planning on around four years, and here comes year four.

Pelini, although pretty unlikable, got canned from a school with unrealistic expectations. The old 90s Nebraska teams aren't coming back anytime soon. I think coaches will be letting him know when transfers become available. It's definitely going to make a better conference. If you think that Pelini was fired because they didn't win a National Championship (the 90's coming back), then you are sorely mistaken. It really drives me nuts to hear that statement because it is completely misconstruing the situation. Also, statements like "...a school with unrealistic expectations. The old 90s Nebraska teams aren't coming back anytime soon..." are total loser mentality statements. Pelini was fired because he wasn't competing (I didn't say winning) for CONFERENCE championships, was a disorganized CEO, an incredibly lazy recruiter, refused to conform to the public expectations of a coach paid in the top 15 salaries, let his assistants run a muck, hired completely under qualified assistants (if you need proof, look where most ended up) and was generally an abusive, maniacal, mouth breathing neanderthal. All you need to do is watch the way in which Mike Reilly carries himself, recruits and generally manages the program now to see the difference. The improved level of professionalism is exponential. Lastly, the misconception in you statement that is the most troubling is the media driven belief that you can no longer win in Nebraska. WTF? Why? They have as nice, if not nicer facilities to anybody in the country, their budget is huge and is about to go through the roof with a full share of the B1G money and the increase from the renegotiation of the BTN contract, they have top ten tradition (top 5 most wins ever), they are "cold weather" without actually being cold weather (See: Wisconsin, Penn State, Michigan, Michigan State). Explain to me why Wisconsin or MSU can win conference championships, but Nebraska can't? Also, don't you find this to be talking out of two sides of your mouth as an SDSU fan and a member of the MVFC, where a team from Fargo, ND has won [FOUR] championships in a row? With the ease of recruiting in the south, why is the (almost) Northernmost team in the country dominating? Why is the gap with NDSU and SDSU supposedly closing? You really read into that. My point is that Pelini still has lots of connections and will be getting notified when transfers come up. I don't follow Nebraska at all like you do. Good conversation during the downtime of the year I suppose.

With Pelini now in the conference the Valley just got that much tougher, like it wasn't a gauntlet to begin with. As for predictions, I have no flipping idea what will happen. I don't expect a conference title, I do expect us to at least be competitive. I'd love to see a .500 conference record with one unexpected upset win. If that happens I would give the grade: EXCEEDS EXPECTATIONS.

I would absolutely jump for joy if we could post a record that shows some sort of improvement. I don't think I can take another season of spending my Saturday afternoons in the dome or fiddling around trying to hook my laptop up to the TV so I can stream the road games just to watch us roll over and die out there. Any kind of improvement. Please. Just become competitive again. If nothing else act like we belong on the field with the rest of the conference. Fight to the very last whistle. It seemed like the last half of the season our boys knew they were beat before they even took the field. Be a team that other teams have to prepare for.

The above comments are consistent with what I've heard from most fans regarding season expectations - much more conservative than in recent years. I would echo the comments about seeing improvement and fight throughout the season. We were a bad football team last year; there's just no getting around that.
Frankly, I'm not taking any section of our schedule lightly. UC-Davis is a road game and Drake went 7-4 last season. You'll recall we were in a one-possession game in the fourth quarter with NAIA William Penn last season. Drake presents a stiffer challenge.

If we aren't just decimated by injuries then I think we might stand a chance in every game. I think our "ones" can play with everybody else's "ones" but that seems to be where it stops.

Last year was a step back, plus the MVFC seems to keep moving forward in its dominance in FCS ranks. Hard to be overly optimistic at this stage.
I am looking forward to seeing "who steps up", as I believe we have a couple of good recruiting classes to draw from and a few young players who have had some early success, or at least shown promise.
Agree with all posts above, can't project a lot of wins, I would measure this season by how much improvement is made.

Looking at the schedule, I can't say anything is a "lock" for a win, but we have winnable games in Davis, Drake, YSU (here is that Pelini hate showing up again), WIU, Missouri State and So. Illinois. ANYTHING can happen in the Dome against SDSU. But here is the thing, this season can be built entirely on the first 5 games. If they can get hot against Davis, that sets the tone for Drake, YSU and Western. If not, we are in deep trouble. I hate to put limitations on us like this, but I think the absolute best case scenario is 7 wins. Worst case is obvious and a realistic bar to set is 4 wins. The key to this will be pulling 3 wins out of the first 5 games, in my opinion. Anything less than 2 wins out of those first 5 games and there will be very dark days in Verm.
9/5/2015 Kansas State 9/12/2015 UC Davis 9/19/2015 Drake 10/3/2015 * Youngstown State 10/10/2015 * Western Illinois 10/17/2015 * North Dakota State 10/24/2015 * Missouri State 10/31/2015 * Northern Iowa 11/7/2015 * Southern Illinois 11/14/2015 * South Dakota State 11/21/2015 * Illinois State

Thanks for putting the schedule up Eddie.
x2 on the needing to get a few wins out of the first 5.
If the boys see they can win a game or two early this season, the only one we really don't have a shot at is the game in Fargo. The rest of the teams on the schedule we should be able to compete with, less KSU obviously.

Well, then there is also Illinois State. If we aren't ready to compete with NDSU then we aren't going to beat Ill State, they've actually added to what was a great team from last season.
