Thanks yoteforever. Yes we have season tickets. Actually I found out about it through the howling pack email I got on Tuesday. Said that we had to respond by that day.

Yes he is. Also I will vouch for him as a long term very devoted fan. Hmm, I know I got at least 2 emails in August (one around the 10th and another last week) specifically for the event

Iceman, are you getting the weekly season ticket holder email? I would think this weekly newsletter is sent from the same source.

Hmm, I know I got at least 2 emails in August (one around the 10th and another last week) specifically for the event To be fair, I hadn't recalled getting one either so I went back and looked. On August 25th it came, and that was part of a 4 part email. The first was meet the U in Sioux Falls info, then a membership paragraph, followed by the MEET AND GREET, and lastly watch times and locations for Kansas State and Cal-Davis. So yes it did getting sent, but I will also say it gets lost in the email, so that's why people don't thimk they received it. So in fairness to the athletic department, it was sent. Given the fact that season ticket holders are on a mass email only, it might be prudent in the future to send a seperate one that highlights the event. I'm not being critical, I'm just saying in the past our athletic department hasn't been the best at communications and I do feel Dave Herbster and williams honestly are trying to address that. In this case, it was sent but maybe could've been more identifiable. Time for a new topic and move on. We are making positive strides so let's not knit pick. Time to kick some a wildcat a$$

Going a different direction with this post, but does anyone have any info about how we look on the defensive front? I caught the tail end of a conversation the other day that went along the lines of "Our front four are terrible. I don't know why anybody would throw the ball on us". I'm hoping this was just exaggerated water cooler talk, but now I'm concerned. I hope somebody out there can make me feel a little better about it.

Well, we just switched from a 3-4 to a 4-3, does that say anything about the strength of our DL? I'm not a X's and O's guy at all, so I'm not sure what prompted that switch. Our DL certainly wasn't going to shine last year when we only had three men on the line and had to deal with them being injured at any rate. I thought we had at least a couple of pretty good lineman in Iddings and Jacobs if they can stay on the field.

The DL was very thin last year especially with all the injuries. Typically if you run a 4-3 it helps to stop the run better. With a 3-4 you need a huge versatile NG/DT to be able to fill the middle of the line and depend on the LB's to make more tackles.

Coach Glenn seems to think that our interior DL guys are going to plug the gaps. I've heard him have good things to say about the DL twice last week. One area that I haven't heard much about...good or bad...is the linebacking corps. Has anybody seen a 2 deep chart as of yet?

At LB I believe we will be starting Lage, Buscarini, and Hillier - which doesn't sound bad to me. The linebackers might actually be the strength of our defense when you also take into account the depth that appears to be behind them.

The linebackers might actually be the strength of our defense when you also take into account the depth that appears to be behind them. Wessel??? Moving from four LBs to three, maybe it will be Wessel at ILB rather than Buscarini. Two good options at any rate. Listening to Joe Glenn go through the team's starters tonight and I missed who was mentioned at ILB, but here are some notes I caught: Joe Glenn has stated that McGuire will be our starting center with McLeran moving over to RG. Homegrown R-fr Nick Jensen will also be starting on the OL. Chancellor and Banks will also be starting. Michael Frederick and Nate Gunn expected to contribute at RB as true freshmen. The only RB on the roster not mentioned was Calvin Strong, who is ineligible this season (did notice he is now listed on the roster, had heard he wasn't included previously). Lots of talk about getting true freshmen Shamar Jackson and Danny Rambo into the mix, sound to be very fast players. Saeger is obviously #1 at QB, but Woodward and Simmons are said to be neck-and-neck for #2. Hopefully this year we find out who is #2 when we are blowing someone out. Joe is really high on R-Fr Van Ginkel at DE, named the starter apparently. Colin Mertlik is down as the other starting DE if I heard correctly, Iddings and Jacobs in the middle. These DEs are listed as LBs on the roster, an approach consistent with the coaches saying they want to get as much speed on the field as possible. No surprises at WR - Shufford and Donovan the top two guys followed by a cohort of Meyers, Kramer, and Van Roekel. Lots of options at WR. Expect TE Aaron Ramsey to get his hands on the ball as well. I think we have some good players on both sides of the ball and we are certainly trying some new things this year. Get the season started right with a couple of non-conference wins to build confidence and we very well could make some noise in the MVFC. I'm ready for football season. Go Yotes!

Didn't get to hear all of the Joe Glenn show, but was impressed with our depth at a few positions on offense, OL, WR, and TE sounds very deep with Ramsey, Barkley, Hale and Fenchel. The starters on the OL, Jensen, McClaren (guard, due to shoulder), McGuire (C), Banks, Chancellor by my understanding with Kennedy battling for a starting spot. Add to that Meinert, Olson, and Dagel who I believe all saw action last year, and we should have some nice depth.
It is the time for optimism, I'm getting more excited about the possibilities for progress!
Fight South Dakota!

What tangible thing has changed from last season that will suddenly make this a respectful football team. Very easy answer, "pretty much nothing". Basically we have the same coaches, same players from a very bad football team last year. We have a quarterback that did mostly losing when taking over for Kevin Earl. This team takes close losses against the bad MVFC teams, gets beat soundly by the middle of the road teams and gets completely over matched against the top tier teams in the conference. That will be much the case this year again. By the luck of the draw maybe the Yotes will squeek out one conference win and if they are lucky two.
The objective outsider opinion is that this football team is going to do very little to improve. When the administration demands accountibility than we have true hope but until that happens it isn't really much more than false hope. It is completely shocking that this train wreck was allowed one more chance to get back on the tracks only to proceed to the next derailing. The best thing that could happen is that this team finishes 0-8 again in the Valley to do everything possible to ensure there will be sweeping changes next year that should have been done in November. That doesn't sound like a fun proposition but we need a true bottoming out again this year to make sure every fan and administrator understand that there is a big problem. There is only one thing worse than having a bad football team, and that is not realizing we have a bad football team.
