The field of 24 has been released and the bracket is here: www.ncaa.com/interactive-bracket/football/fcsIllinois is seeded #2 with a bye NDSU is seeded #3 with a bye SDSU travels to Montana on Saturday, winner plays at NDSU UNI hosts Eastern Illinois on Saturday, winner travels to #6 Portland State Western Illinois travels to Dayton on Saturday, winner plays at Illinois State Western Illinois is the first 6-5 team to ever make the playoffs. It now seems likely that if USD could have won either of its final two games that we would be in the playoff field. The selection committee did not want another MVFC title game and put all five teams on the same side of the bracket, forcing two potential MVFC rematches in the second round. SDSU has to be hopping mad at this point. For as highly ranked as they were all season and with all that potential this has turned out to be exactly the same as any other year. Playoff game at Montana, another trip to Fargo if they win. NDSU will either be looking to avenge its season opening loss to Montana or make it about ten straight over SDSU (what a riveting rivalry).

SDSU blew their chance for a top 8 seed by losing against Western Illinois so they can't really complain about that. They should be very upset with their bracket though. Having to travel to Montana (which is ridiculous that the game is at Montana due to bidding reasons and not their qualifications) and then have to go to NDSU is just status quo for their program. Losing at home to UNI and then at Western Illinois are the typical types of losses that they take every year and as a result cost them a good seed. The Jacks will probably beat Montana this year and then go into Fargo and blow a tire like usual. Congradulations to Western Illinois on getting in as I think they deserved it. They played well early in the year and then had a good finish after slumping in the middle. It's too bad that the national committee has to punish the Valley by putting all 5 teams in the same half of the bracket.

Are you sure the trip to Montana has nothing to do with their lack of a stadium? Pretty sure they blew up Coughlin this week. I know they had a contingency plan at Howard Wood but perhaps the committee wasn't a fan of that?

Don't know all the criteria for determining who gets to host first round games, but I believe all teams put in bids for each round before the teams are selected and presumably the higher bid gets to host. Whether SDSU was using the present day Coughing Alumni stadium (prior to this weeks demolition) or Howard Wood, they likely could not afford to outbid the Griz. If in the same situation next year, with the new stadium being completed, they would be in a better position to put in a more competitive bid

I am not a fan of the NCAA following a bidding process instead of judging the teams by their credentials on the field. From a competitive standpoint I just hate that. SDSU had a very good home field plan with Howard Wood so they should have been allowed to play the game there if needed. If they were a top 8 seed they would have been guaranteed a home game.

I hate the bidding too. It needs to go to the better team but its all about money, just like the regionlizing the brackets. FCS does it right with a 24 team playoff but doesnt do it right when bracketing the teams.

Western Illinois leads Dayton 24-7 with 12:14 to go in the 4th quarter. It was 10-7 not long ago so the Leathernecks are imposing some MVFC will onto the Flyers.

I think I saw that WIU was favored by like 17 points in that game. Dayton doesn't offer football scholarships and I honestly am a little surprised it has been this close for them.

Montana leads SDSU 7-0. So far it doesn't seem like the Jacks are too crazy about having to be playing in Missoula today. Still early but Montana with the momentum so far.

The Jacks are getting hammered 24-0 at the half in Missoula. It looks like they just won't be able to get over the disappointment of the loss to W. Illinois and their failure to get a top 8 seed. After today so far they don't deserve a top seed as they are melting down in Missoula. Things aren't fair in life as things were looking so good for SDSU and not so good for W. Illinois after the second to last regular season week. Suddenly the Necks pull off the win over the Jacks and look who is still playing from the Valley and look who is in trouble of not even making it past the play in round.
Go Griz

Ehh, going out to Montana and winning in the playoffs is tough. I'm willing to cut the Jacks some slack. Kind of torn because I want the Jacks to never win another game ever, but I want the MVFC to perform. Thanks alot SDSU.

SDSU showed a lot of mettle. Down 24-0 and coming back making a game of it. They are a damned good team.
Also, congrats to Western Illinois. They are doing it right.

The Jacks come back but fall short 24-17. Montana won this game passing the ball. They also ran out the clock at the end by passing the ball and passing on first down. Montana sure figured out the formula for beating a MVFC team without playing smash mouth football. The Jacks moved the ball primarily via the pass as well as they couldn't even run very well against Montana. A cold day in Missoula and passing won the day.
Congradulations to Montana today. The Bison want a piece of them pretty badly and will get that chance next week. I am predicting a NDSU blowout next week.
