Along with Yelk staying, Schlafke is staying along with 3 or 4 others. Also heard Blazek was headed to a Big 10 school.

I played for Coach B….. I also played for Coach Caruso…….. There is no question that Coach B is the greatest coach I have ever played for!!! I played professional football as well….. I will repeat Coach B is the greatest coach I ever played for! Play caller, teacher and Mentor!!!! He has helped me become a better husband, father and friend. I hope USD has a great coach in Nielson he seems very qualified. I will say to Coach B’s naysayers you had better hope he does not become a Head Coach, if and when he does you all will be hoping to get him back. I do not know what went on the past couple years maybe there was a time for a change maybe not. I do know that. I would have went to the end of the earth for Coach! He helped build a program that was in the ashes with Austin in shambles with ED, not many assistant coaches can accomplish that. Look at the players he brought in! If they do lose him they may lose a lot more than a coach. I will not argue over this one bit, for the former player that is posting about coaches you should be ashamed of yourself, maybe you should have been a better player, worked harder in the offseason I don’t know… Typically looking in the mirror is a better formula than blaming fault on a Coach. I know this if I could be like anyone I know it would be Coach B he is an all-time great Coyote one that we should all look up to. I will not post again and proably wont read any of this junk again. I wish nothing but the best for Coach Nielson and his staff.

Let's stop cutting down coaches that poured out their hearts for the university. Here is the deal, Coach Nielson is a big boy. He is a multi-time head coach. He has assembled staffs many times over. In addition, he is a former Athletic Director. He knows how this is done. If he chooses to retain all, any or none of the assistants, it is his call and should ONLY be his call. I will fully support any decisions he makes with regard to the current staff and his future staff. I suggest everybody else does the same. There is no need to look back. It is time to look forward.
Go Yotes!

Herbster shelled out 255K to get the guy he wanted, a strong offer there. Pretty much the exact same that he made at Western this year correct? Nielsen must view the situation here as much more viable than dealing with all the issues at Western. Happy to have him.

Word is that with bonuses for making the playoffs and winning the coach of the year award he got up to 250k. Very impressed to see that Herbster and the administration really opened the checkbook. Clearly there is some dedication to athletics at USD and I am excited to see what is in store for the program.

Base was ~$205k...with bonuses this year, he made likely around $250k or a bit more. If that $255k is base and there's bonuses on top of that, it's ~$50k raise for him.

Who knows if that was our initial offer, I would guess we started in that 225K range that people were throwing around and ended up sweetening our offer to get the guy we wanted when some of the details and such leaked last week.

Link below is Nielson contract with WIU. Also, it appears WIU cancelled a press conference today to announce head coach. It was reported earlier that Tyler Yelk would have the job and 3/4 coaches were staying at WIU. It now appears that Nielson offered all staff at WIU to come with him. hkm.com/football/contracts/bob-nielson/

Per footballscoop.com: Western Illinois: Per source, Western Illinois has cancelled their planned announcement for today, and is going to conduct a national search for their head coaching position.

255K good for you USD. I am so happy how Herbster and USD have handled this situation. Paying money for good coaches is some of the best money spent and I think is equal to making the commitment to Cost of Attendance. The effects of having a winning football program will help the overall interest and ticket sales which will help make up some of the cost. When it comes to handling everything regarding coaches Herbster has done a fine job overall. The Coyotes are ponying up right now and are doing so wisely. I am also happy to hear that Nielsen wants his staff to come with him.
Now the focus needs to be expanding and improving the Dakota Dome. I think it is a fine facility as is but if Nielsen is as advertised and the Yotes become a playoff worthy program I could see a spike in attendance pretty much maxing out the current capacity of the dome. We need to increase the overall capacity by at least 4,000. Lets face it attendance has been pretty good despite multiple losing seasons. If the Coyotes become true contenders there is no reason that average attendance can't take at least a 2K per game spike.
I am listening to some of the interviewing and talking about this hire on AM 1230 in Sioux Falls. Matt Zimmer thinks this is a good hire and Jay Elsen is coming up next. This is a damn exciting time right now for USD athletics.

Yeahhhh this is gonna be fun. Exactly what I wanted to hear. I always believe, instead of worry about what other teams are doing, make them worry about what you are doing. Make other programs make it a nightmare week trying to prepare for USD.
