Chris Streveler, a very talented football player on the roster at the University of Minnesota the past few years has made the decision to be a Coyote. Chris was on campus last weekend and made his decision today. Chris wants to challenge for the QB spot. He was originally recruited by the Gophers to play QB but has had a hard time seeing the field in that position.
Welcome to the Coyote football family Chris.

Aaaand now we have a QB controversy on out hands. Sounds like a great addition to the roster who will see the field right away even if he doesn't get starting QB duties.

Saw this kid play in high school, excellent passer with even better legs. Could be a game changer. My understanding is he has 2 years of eligability left even though he will be a grad student?

That is what I have seen. Must be finishing his degree in three years at Minnesota. So as a student he will be in a Master's program (curious what his Bachelor's is/was) and as an athlete he will be a Junior.

Great athlete. He's not a QB, but he's such a good athlete he'll make a big impact in FCS. I'm also a Gopher fan so I've been watching him the past few years. From what I remember, his only other D1 offer was from South Dakota State.

He will be a game changer at USD.

Wow - nice pick up for the Yotes! Especially if you are a GopherYote He was a valid Big 10 talent, but couldn't find a spot to fit in with the Gophers even before the coaching change. (I was pulling for him to get more snaps at QB last year)

Has anyone seen a recent 40 time on this kid? Is he fast or is he quick? Speculation on his ability to beat out Saeger and Simmons and what does his arm look like? Very excited to see this kid in action!

This was on The Daily Gopher: "Streveler is quite the athlete and one of the fastest guys on the team, but finding a home for him on the field hasn't worked out here.
Even better for Streveler is that he is on pace to graduate this Spring and will be eligible to play immediately with 2 years of eligibility. Best of luck to the young man."
To say he is one of the fastest guys on a Big 10 team without regard to position is saying something, but given that he is a big, strong kid, it is REALLY saying something.

Another interesting fact about Chris that I saw in his signing day video from the gophers, he was an early high school graduate and came to Minnesota at semester time. So, he has actually had an extra Spring football season to add to his experience.

I have taken a little time to think about this all and I have come to the conclusion that I believe our coaches are really looking to run the QB a ton going forward. As has already been pointed out, assuming all of the current QBs stay with the program, Saeger and Simmons can run the ball very well. One need only look at the NDSU game to see Saeger's production and Simmons numbers from HS and his physical build speak for themselves. Then you add in the known characteristics of Steveler - one of the fastest guys on U of M's roster, a physical specimen that practices what he studies (Kinesiology), and a guy that set a record for QB rushing at Minnesota against SJSU.
The coaches will have significant depth at the position and should be able to "absorb" any dings they may take along the way.
I don't think it is an exaggeration to say that the STYLE of this team will be similar to what Oregon wants/likes to do.
Fast. Tempo. Read. React.
