Mason Leighton is another great get(I sound like a broken record)! Appears that he'd be a great fit at FL (IMHO) or FS. Has very good speed and runs very well in the broken field. On D has a nose for the ball (12 ints) and is a very good tackler.

I don't even try to evaluate the talent of the recruits out there, but if this class is as good as everyone is making it sound then the future is bright. Can not recall this level of excitement on the board from any previous classes.

We usually hear something soon after a coach making announcement... wonder why we haven't heard anything yet?

Can not recall this level of excitement on the board from any previous classes. For the years that I have been following recruiting, going back to the D2 days, there was always some level of excitement about players coming in. You had hopes that they would develop into something but, deep down, you just kind of forgot about it because you knew that a vast majority of recruits weren't going to pan out. There has been a different feeling with last year's class and now an even better feeling with this year's class. The reasons it is different: 1. We saw recruits from last year's class make an immediate impact. 2. There is a noticeable trend of big & faster recruits. 3. In the past we recruited other areas and didn't go head-to-head with NDSU or SDSU, when we did it appeared we just conceded the recruit. Not anymore. We are competing and winning recruiting battles against the XDSU's, UNI, etc. and for some highly sought after guys. That is completely different than the past. 4. There are guys who have been recruited by FBS schools that we are getting. We are shopping in a higher end market than we have in the past.

Hopefully it is Coker!! Looks from his highlights he plays with a super aggressive attitude whether he's on D or O which is great!!

One other thing I would add - this staff has been proactive from the end of last season until now. They have been targeting kids early, pursuing them and locking down their commitments. Getting a core class together early is paramount. It allows our staff to spot recruit hard on kids that are fringe FBS kids or late bloomers now. The years of garnering 20+ commits between December and February are gone. These guys are pros. At the FCS level, we lay people on boards cannot grade film with any level of certainly. All you can do is: 1) Trust the staff to know what they are doing; 2) Look at who else has offered or closely followed a player; and 3) Evaluate measurables within the framework of a stereotype.

I love that we are hitting the Iowa 4A schools hard for recruits. WDM Dowling, now Cedar Rapids Kennedy.
