You can say a lot of things about Streveler but man you can't question his toughness. To get up from that hit he took - that's gusty right there and sets the tone for the team. I think we build on this one - a big win and as we get more experience we are only going to get better. Go yotes!

Might sound like generic coach speak, but I've been saying if we eliminate turnovers we can beat anyone on the schedule. We didn't give points away on offense, we won the game (in spite of the abysmal officiating slanted against us).

Isn't it nice that for once we can talk about the plays in the game that caused a win instead of having to rehash what things caused another loss. If someone would have showed the time of possession and total first downs no one would have said that Coyotes would win after seeing that.
As far as the defense my entire view of them was going to be determined when UNI started their last drive with 1:58 left on the clock. They smoked the UNI offense and were the final determining factor in getting the win. To this point I have thought the D was either mediocre or poor but this afternoon I thought they were a solid unit and so I think using the term "good" would apply for this unit for their performance. I give them a solid B.
Streveler's stock went up for the first time since at least the Weber State game. If you wanted to buy him on wall street the best opportunity would have been after last week because hopefully it won't be affordable any time soon again. He had two questionable plays the pick and the play early on where he threw it right at a UNI player that luckily resulted in a drop. Otherwise a very nice performance from him this week. The most solid up and down performance to date. I like that the Yotes challenged UNI deep because it not only worked but loosened their D up so they couldn't just stack the box.
Frickin awesome win today. The team was on a down slide since the 4th quarter in Grand Forks but what a big step forward this week. What is nice is that some of the Coyotes opponents looked good. Weber won easily, UND won easily and Youngstown won on the road. Gosh UND has been impressive since the USD game and the Yotes had them dead to rights. Today's game certainly paints a brighter picture going forward. The difference between 1-1 and 0-2 can be a world of difference. Now with the Yotes certainly looking better it's off to Indiana State with a pretty good chance to pick up a road win. As long as the positive from today hold strong the Coyotes can beat the Sycamores but it certainly won't be easy.

Huge win for the coyotes today. Played an excellent game. That is what happens when you keep mixing up the play calling. It opens things up a lot more.
Defense stepped up huge in this game today. D-line played much better. You could tell they were getting tired. They were out there a lot today. Would be nice to see Lambert, Cline, Greenfield, and a few others rotated in a little more. Lambert made some huge plays today.

I've reviewed the NCAA targeting rule since the game and clearly it needs to be changed! Clearly the hit to Steveler should be considered targeting and under the current rule it is not. Simple reasons it should be targeting are: it was a violent, intentional helmet to helmet hit by the defender. With all the concerns about concussions (and rightly so) the rule needs to be modified. What a tough cookie Chris is to be able to continue to play after that hit. The ref crew clearly struggled several times during the game the most notable was the no TD call for UNI that 7 minutes later was called a TD! Also there were holding flags that were picked up that were holding, offside calls not made, obvious holding by both teams that weren't called, etc.

As long as the positive from today hold strong the Coyotes can beat the Sycamores but it certainly won't be easy. it was an awesome win. I posted last week that there isn't a game on our schedule we can't win. It's not likely we will, but I will say stranger things have happened in sports. This staff has done a fantastic job of utilizing the talent they have and implementing game plans around them. We are short in numbers on both lines, but this far we have been fortunate in no major injuries. To give our defense a solid B is fair, but I would give them a solid A the final 10 minutes, and that's when many games are won or lost. I've stated this before, and not to be redundant, but in order to play for championships or contend for them, you have to learn how to win. That doesn't happen overnight. It takes time. Yesterday may have been the first time in ages that we counted on our defense to get the job done, and they did it. Good for them. I also stated that Youngstwon State was in the elite of the conference, and I stand by that. NDSU is NDSU, and SDSU also is very good offensively, but not so good on D. UNI bet Iowa State, and lost at Eastern Washington. Eastern Washington beat Washington State, lost to NDSU in overtime in Fargo, and have won out since. UNI got beat out there 34-30 and could've won the game. Iowa State the past two weeks have taken Baylor and Oklahima State to the final minutes, and though they haven't won, they were in the game against nationally ranked teams. And UNI beat them solidly. North Dakota right now is cruising in the BSC, and I still think they will be in the top 3 of that league. My point is if we can objectively look at where we are at, and believe we can get this done...actually believe it, we are on course for contention sooner than later. We are closing the gap at a very good pace. Once we inherit the mindset we can and will win...we will. Kudos to this staff in doing an excellent job of putting our guys in a position to win. I think the balance of the year is going to be frustrating for some, exciting for some, but is going to paint a picture of where we are heading as a program subject to no major mount of injuries. I still belive a 4-4 finish would be awesome. I know, I know, we all want more. But of we are going to build for the future and put ourselves in contention for titles, I would rather have progress come about on an even pace. This staff is good...very good. Please don't judge them in any given week if by some chance we fall off the bike and skin our knees because I think that's going to happen. But I also believe we are going to get some of the big boys as well. We are in good hands, savor this win, and hope we get one next week in Terre Haute, and of we do, we then have a two week stretch at home against two winnable teams. Fight South Dakota

Congrats - nice win by the yotes... keep it going many call this an upset. I don't see it that way. Your QB is a beast and if healthy you will win more games in the following weeks. Best of Luck

Great win by a team with a ton of grit. Say what you will about our D in terms of experience, perhaps athletic ability, and especially depth in numbers, but those boys absolutely played their hearts out! Could not be prouder of them! The offense played well most of the time and give credit to the game plan drawn up by the coaches. Individual players executing their responsibilities as assigned made those big plays happen.
Finally, I was going to dump on the UNI coach for being a classless ass at the end of the game (from my view he virtually snubbed Nielson) but after viewing the panthernation board, he already has enough misery coming his way. The UNI fans are not happy and he has 5 years left on a contract paying him $370,000 a year.

Great day, hats off to the players, coaches, and the entire staff. The kids got to play in front of a sell out crowd, or what was said to be a sold out crowd. I think everybody is doing their job except the fans. Its getting better but we need to fill up the dome, really fill it up, not just buy the seats by corporations. Put yelling Coyote fans in the seats! First season in awhile as a season ticket holder, new renovations are gonna be incredible, went to the volleyball game after. What a facility! Only thing missing is fans! Support your "WINNING" Coyotes.

Great win and now time to look forward to Indiana Dtate. Hopefully none of the injuries sustained yesterday are too serious. The Yotes are beat up pretty good right now.

As YF was stating, this is a very good UNI team with a great win over Iowa State team and close losses to elite FCS teams in #5 Eastern Washington and #10 Montana. Since UND will be ranked in the teens and Youngstown State is approaching the top-10 this brings us to 1-2 against ranked FCS opponents on the year. Wish it was 3-0, but I'll take 1-2 knowing the difference is a correctable issue such as turnovers - something that was almost entirely corrected in a W against UNI. Also worth mentioning when talking SOS is Weber State, who haven't lost since their trip to Vermillion and are 3-0 in Big Sky play. We haven't been playing cupcakes by any measure.
I remain optimistic that this team makes it to 4-4 in MVFC play this year. I wouldn't call it a lofty goal. It's realistic and would be a step forward for this program, even if our overall record doesn't improve from 2015. We will have to continue to limit turnovers, but also hope that we get lucky and remain relatively healthy on our very thin lines. We have a fantastic offense and can outscore anyone on this schedule. I have confidence this coaching staff will continue to develop our team and push us towards this goal I have in mind by year's end.

Streveler (again) named MVFC Newcomer of the Week: www.valley-football.org/news/default/2016-17/9047/valley-football-players-of-the-week-oct-8/Got a feeling Strev will take this title home at least a couple more times this season since our entire offense runs through him (he has accounted for 18 of our 21 TDs by my count). I was very impressed with the dimes he dropped on our receivers that beat their one-on-one coverage for big plays. I don't think of Streveler as a strong passer but those were some impressive throws deep downfield placed perfectly for our receivers, gotta give him credit. Also enjoy seeing him break off those long runs like he did a couple plays into the game to put us up 7-0. Another promising 'newcomer' for us is Taylor Lambert. He may be a junior in his third year with the program, but he didn't have much of a role in the past and also made the switch to DL this season, but he has been making some plays. Three tackles against UNI with two for losses. I recall him having a TD reception against Missouri State last year but seem to remember him as being a walk-on player. Good step forward under this coaching staff for this kid from just up the road in North Sioux. Also enjoying what I'm seeing from the sophomore Gray twins on defense. Andrew had an interception for the second week in a row and Alex found a few tackles including one for a loss. There are some promising young talents on this team that I look forward to seeing develop. Can't stress enough that this was a very good win for the Yotes. Looking forward I feel that UNI is a tougher opponent than our next four are in Indiana State, Illinois State, Western Illinois, and Southern Illinois - and the fan in me likes our chances against the remaining two games against the xDSUs. Limit mistakes and stay relatively healthy and we will win some games.
