There are plenty of other quality football programs to play outside of the MVFC and Big Sky. I just get tired or having the Big Sky having to be practically like a second conference. I am glad to have UND join the mix in a couple of years. They should be a conference rival and will be once again. For awhile the Coyotes were playing the likes of McNeese State, Central Arkansas (when we were still D2), and SE Louisiana. It would be cool to go back to some more well rounded scheduling but it appears more and more that I am on a fairly isolated island with that opinion. It appears that the fan base and admin are infatuated with the Big Sky. I'd like to see us go East as well, New York or New England in the fall would be an awesome trip, but it would seem to me teams from that region would also have to want to play us as well. Good luck finding a team from that region agreeing to a home and home contract. I can't imagine any school like say a New Hampshire or Albany falling all over themselves to come to Vermtown. The South in late August early September...brutal heat and humidity and bugs so big they can steal your hat. Montana in September...paradise. I think you nailed it. You have to have a willing partner to schedule a home and home. The teams in the east have many FCS options on that side of the country. No need to have to stretch their travel with a trip to South Dakota. FCS teams out west are looking for games so willing partners are easily found. The BSC is a good conference and we get home/home with good schools from that conference. I don't see what the problem is. Besides, we've discussed often the "dream conference" of the Dakotas, Montanas, Idahos, etc. I think in order to form tighter bonds with those schools we should schedule them OOC as often as possible. The only other conference I could see USD striking up a good relationship like we have with the BSC schools is the Southland.

I agree completely. I wasn't recommending we not do it, someone asked about the Sitting Bull trophy itself, and I think ( heavy emphasis on think ) someone told me that it was in Grand Forks, was in a storage room ( because it wasn't correct to display it ) and got trashed. I stand corrected on this, but I think I'm right. Your recommendation of a new trophy is spot on. Now it needs to build traction I knew what you meant YF. I will try reaching out and we'll see what we can get done. Hope you're summer is going well buddy.

I am worried about playing the Coyotes in the Dakota Dome this fall, especially after the way the game ended last year in Grand Forks. Thinking about making the trip down memory lane ( I29 ) September 16th. It's great that old rivalries are being renewed. Should be a whale of a game. I don't think either side is sure of this game. Join us at our tailgate after that BRUTAL drive down I-29. No offense, but hope the drive home is longer. 😄

My drive to Grand Forks last year seemed to just fly by. The drive home felt like a day and a half. I also hope to give the UND fans the same warm welcome I received, and excruciating drive back to go with it.

It just feels like the first 4 games are going to tell us an awful lot about 2017. I think we all expect a W @ Drake. If they can pull out a W @ BG we will be super excited and dreaming of the playoffs. If they lose, but are competitive we will still be hopeful. If we beat UND we will be feeling good heading into the conference season. If we lose the season could already feel lost for fans. If they go on the road and win at WIU, we would still be in it even if only 2-2.
I waver between thinking we have a real chance to win 8 games to just hoping we can win 5 or 6. Arguments can be made either direction with the way this conference shakes out.

Considering how tough the last 3 games are I think the Coyotes are going to need to be 6-2 or at minimum 5-3 if they want a legit chance to make the playoffs at that point of the season. 4-4 or less and the Coyotes probably won't make it. I agree that a good start is pretty much a must thing.

Looks like the bunnies have the weakest OOC schedule followed closely by NDSU. Ironic that these are the the two top ranked preseason teams from the MVFC.

To be fair, no one has what I would call a killer schedule. Ours is respectable and certainly one of the toughest in the league, but across the board it's down from years past.
One thing is for sure, and that is USD, SDSU, and NDSU have never backed down from a fight. NDSU scares the hell out of many FBS teams because quite frankly they win more than they lose, and against good teams. SDSU has played at Nebraska, TCU, Missouri, and Kansas in recent memory. The Coyotes played Minnesota, Oregon, Kansas State and will play Iowa State and Oklahoma in coming years.
This is the one real good thing, in my opinion, is that all sports now has an opportunity to play on the big stage which is great for getting overall school recognition. Who ever would've thought we'd play the Sooners? Or men's basketball play Duke and UCLA in the same year, let alone ever. The move to D1 is posituve in this regard.

The NDSU-EWU game in Washington should be a damn good game.
It will be interesting to see how the valley schools fair against Northern Arizona. I expect SDSU to crush Montana state. They chose to go with the extra home game and try for more gate revenue rather than play an FBS game, which is their prerogative. Can't blame them one bit for trying to give their fans options before harvest and pheasant season.
I'm also intrigued by UNI schedule. They finish with two layups.
I'm going to go through and try to predict each game and see how wrong I end up being.

I realize who has played whom in the past, and agree that these big time games are uber positive, it's just that this year there are no P5 games from the Dakota schools. Our semi tour if the Big 12 the next four years will rectify that situation at least in our case. Don't really care what the others do. NDSU/EWU will be a good game, but the other two...really? Just as well play Jamestown and Mary. I also realize that a whole lot of P5 coaches would not be happy if their ADs put the Bison on their schedule so it might be tough for them to get those games in the future. Montana State will be a decent game for SDSU, but they can mail in the results of the other two. The home game aspect does make some sense, but I would think competitive games would be a better draw.

Well, considering the Bison had Chuck South, EWU and Iowa for their OOC games last year, I do not have a problem with Miss Valley, EWU and RMU this year. NDSU has nothing to prove by playing 3 top teams every year for OOC games.
