Backup a second. I don’t want to hijack this thread. But John/Kwsn was not part of the Stig cover up. They asked some hard questions, and didn’t just let the story go. John asked several times before the season what the self imposed punishment was. Frankly he upset Stig when he asked him about it in August and refused to answer saying he had already answered these questions. John said he felt Stig should’ve been suspended for the first game. He pressed Sell on whether the DUI had any influence in whether to give Stig a new 5 year contract. So I wouldn’t rope John/Kwsn into not covering Stig’s transgressions. I agree. I thought that was the same point I was making. He (rightly and respectfully) questioned Stig on the DUI. I agreed with him on that. Given John's history of not following the local small-town cover-up media in handling our beloved coaches with kid-gloves, I thought he might question the Dome numbers. He didn't. I was just postulating that maybe the station told him to get in line after he embarrassed Stig. Just guessing. I'm pretty sure John didn't question him about the seating capacity because: 1) he wasn't aware and/or 2) He didn't give a shit about it enough to think it was a big deal. Now obviously the seating capacity/reported attendance seems to be a big topic on this board, but for most people I don't think they really care. If John was even aware of the whole seating capacity thing I don't think he would have even put that in the same ballpark as the DWI coverup.

On their way to the FBS They check in on the USD seating capacity at UND
A little garbled but the quality of the writing is not to be considered:
They are disappointed and a little resentful because the USD seating capacity doesn’t support their eventual and imagined move to FBS.
I like it if Im a USD season ticket holder. As the program grows under Coach Nelson seats will become scarce especially for the big games.

Hey everyone, new poster here but have been reading the threads off and on for a while. Decided to take the leap and throw out my thoughts on the Dome reno. I like the whole concept, but it does concern me that the total capacity is only at 10k. It would've been nice to at least see it get to 12-13k. I see that there are plans to extend the north end but that would be only after we have achieved bison level sellouts. Which if Nielson can get things going again could be in the distant future.
Either way, I'm just glad they're finally getting started on the icon. One big thing I hope they are planning though is to get some red to the exterior, in either signs or banners, ex. the SDSU sign on the scoreboard at DJDS. If you take a look around campus ever, you won't see our signature SD paw print lit up anywhere at night, you will see the dome lit up red but that's about it. I think a big led SD paw print would be a sweet addition to the outside of the dome or SCSC.

Is there a reason why the improvements aren't scheduled to start until mid February. I'm sure there is some reason why they didn't have them start right after the football season ended.

Less disruption for the indoor track season? Plenty of time to complete the improvements? Availability of the construction company? All guesses.

I think right now I heard they’re tearing stuff out that isn’t attached. Maybe maintenance is doing that so they don’t have to pay the contractor???

... Decided to take the leap and throw out my thoughts on the Dome reno. Great first post! ... it does concern me that the total capacity is only at 10k. It would've been nice to at least see it get to 12-13k. Yeah, I guess we are going to re-calibrate our expectations with regard to the attendance situation. Once you get past that, this renovation is the right amount of expansion without over-extending IMO. Upgrades 2,000 seats from bleachers and adds 2,000 seats. Also upgrades income with more boxes.
There is a little room to expand at the top of the new west grandstand with the "Level 5" space that can be converted to press or luxury boxes. And of-course there is the north wall. If we have the need to expand that, we will be doing well with football ticket sales, which is a big revenue stream. Until then it is likely cost-prohibitive, as has been mentioned.
But of course the BIG deal is the football-specific facilities. That will erase a major obstacle we have had in recruiting. It's amazing we have even done as well as we have given the locker-rooms we have had. Just a huge upgrade.... I think a big led SD paw print would be a sweet addition to the outside of the dome or SCSC. That would be sweet.

Wonder what happened to the old student section. Maybe up for bid at Calling All Coyotes?

Interesting how they left the concrete and block substructure underneath and are incorporating it into the design. I thought they might tear it all out and start complete from scratch.

I look forward to seeing progress game to game this year. I happened to be in the dome today and a person can really start to get a feel for what it's going to look like when it's done. I don't know if any more progress will be obvious once the season starts though. I was told that the main infrastructure should be completed by the first game and then during the season the work will focus more on work underneath.
